Bronze Queue Times 25 minutes long

Just had a queue time of over 25 minutes for Bronze on a Friday night

And of course because I switched to another input to do something because it was taking so long, I got banned between flipping inputs for inactivity

This game absolutely sucks, what’s with the 25 minutes queue?

It happens when there’s a gap between SR and hidden MMR since the game refuses to put you vs actual bronze players and would instead search for people who have been high rank but have either intentionally or unintentionally dropped to bronze.

If it doesn’t find any, it will put you in a lobby with “outcasts” like you who haven’t been able to get matched with people their rank, where the lowest player can be Bronze 5 and the highest Master 1.

Welcome to Blizzard’s matchmaking, I guess. I had to deal with this bs the past season.

it seems like you are in deep bronze, there is nothing much you can do but just rank up and gain more SR and you will get better queue times, you have to deal with long queue times. untill you get into a higher rank or gain more SR

get 10mn average wait queue time for bronze5 competitive matches in peak hours, my SR and MMR are near, I’m not a derank smurf but a beginner.
Play on EU server.

That’s what happens when a combination of factors are deal with by Blizzard in the worst manner possible. One is the intentional MMR patching in the background to bring the player rank distribution closer to an actual Gaussian bell shape. This should happen naturally over time if the system actually is any good at gauging your skill level, except it isn’t. It’s likely only good at team skill level assessment as a whole, but that needs to be broken down and it’s certainly not easy in a game like Overwatch. After 8 years, it’s somehow worse than it’s ever been instead of better.

The second factor is smurfs and people who try out heroes in comp on alt accounts. They simply introduce uncertainty in the system. Your team could be Plats that just graduated from Gold while the enemy team might have one or two (or more) bored Diamond/Masters/Low GM players looking to cream some metal rank players by using lower rated/decayed alt accounts.

The third factor is cheaters. Many people are just not aware of how much cheating goes on in multiplayer games, especially free-to-play ones such as Overwatch. Cheats have gotten so good and cheap that they often look like good gameplay even to experienced eyes. In higher ranks, they have lower success rates but you only need to look at missing players from top 500 leaderboards to understand there’s too many of them that are able to reach the top of the ladder. In metal ranks, they will mostly bulldoze players that have average aim and game knowledge.

The last factor is that the game is composed of free to play adopters with little game knowledge and the hardcore fans who have played it since the beginning. They will often smoke everyone which is adding to the probability of stomps.

Note: I almost forgot…paid boosters and their boosted “clients” are also making life miserable at every notch in the ladder.

one solution that worked for me is, I use a VPN and play in EU servers.

i can find games in EU in a few minutes

the drawback of that is …

High Ping

Reduced response

but, I play Moira so its fine

the biggest risk is if the VPN disconnects, you might get banned

but, I risk it, I cannot get any games at all. it is horrible. I can queue for 39mins -1hour and zero matches

sometimes I might get lucky, but most of the time I do not get any games

I think the game is on its last legs. It’s super wonky this season, even more so than before. When every new patch brings new bugs and glitches to the game, do we really think their hidden rigging (sorry, ranking) algorithms don’t suffer from the same shoddy code as the rest of it?

Patches always come with issues, same with any game.

But what makes you think it’s on its “last legs”.

Except it isn’t the same with any game is it. This last season people on the leading console platform literally couldn’t play the game for over 48hrs due to crippling performance issues, which would have been obvious to anyone within seconds of launching the game, if they had bothered to play test.

I have better things to do with my time than explain the obvious to you. But perhaps the title of the tread might give you a clue as to one of the many reasons the game is on its last legs.

Only ps5… But yeah. That happened.

I can’t remember the last time a game patched and didn’t have issues. Even the new Warzone patch bugged a bunch of things.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s rubbish and shouldn’t happen. But it’s also totally unsurprising and to be expected. It’s basically impossible to stress test for it.

Congratz! You are exceptional! Definitely game’s fault, lol.

I come from Rocket League and for me, an acceptable queue time is under a minute, preferably around 20s. I do not understand how it is possible to have so long queues in overwatch. After playing around 200 very unbalanced games in casual to have my 50 wins, I finally got to enter the competition, hoping for more balanced games, but the waiting time is boring me big time, I may quit the game, and it’s a shame because I quite enjoy it, more than others mmo fps…

What rank in OW and how long are you queuing? Which platform are you on?

I once had a very high casual MMR in rocket league and it would usually take around 15 minutes to find a match. Sometimes up to 25 minutes… for a 5 minute game!

You must be playing in an obscure region or playing in the dead of night.
