Who else would love to see hardware bans for cheaters! I would love it! Vote it up!!! No reason not to upvote unless you’re a cheater!

it’s pretty common for software to be able to spoof that stuff, wouldn’t surprise me if that’s why blizzard hasn’t even bothered
im all for trying it because it doesn’t have any real negatives - as long as they don’t just end up doing something stupid like banning based on only mac addresses. i’d be pretty peeved if someone spoofed their address and got me banned. if it stops at least a few people it’s fine, but overall it’s not a final solution
If you’re caught cheating your hardware is banned from playing. If you buy the game or try to create a new account on the same computer it wont work because the physical hardware is banned from playing. The hardware has a unique identifier that means it’s banned from playing (Not just mac address). To defeat the ban you need to replace your motherboard or get a different pc and account. But as soon as you get caught on the new PC it’s hardware banned too. Apex is doing this now and it’s awesome!!!

but the thing is that that stuff is spoofable as thanos said. and Mac addresses arent the solution because, again as thanos said, if someone spoofs your address and gets banned youre screwed
IP bans are better since it forces someone to have to use a proxy or some type of method alter their perceived IP address and suffer increased latency and speeds.
It is not easily spoofable. Microsoft Windows licensing based on hardware identifiers and a lot of other software. It’s not easy to spoof.
Hardware and IP bans won’t mean anything to someone who can easily bypass them. It’s a band-aid, but not a long term solution.

If it was easy to spoof then why is Apex doing it. You’re arguing without any knowledge or a cheater trying to convince everyone its not worth it. read the reddit posts about Apex hardware bans. It works!

Ok, show me a post how it’s possible without rebuying new hardware? Nearly everything is possible, it’s just the level of difficulty. The current bans are ineffective because people just rebuy and cheat again. Hardware bans would be significantly more impactful. I’m dropping the conversation now bc I have better things to do. have a great day!

it is EXTREMELY easy to change HWID, A computer has these HWID’s, OS ID, Hard Drive ID, and Network Mac adress. Some softwares compare HWID to ram and cpu and gpu, but those do not have serial numbers accurate enough to enforce rules against, really you cant do anything against hardware bans dont waste your time.

Having got annoyed at cheaters and done my own research it is possible to spoof these things.
Some wont bother so it will catch them out but others will spoof it so it wont get them.
I would provide proof but I would need to link to forums which sell cheats and I don’t wish to do that.
I’m not against the idea but it wont be as effective as you think it would be.
Cheats are getting a lot more sophisticated, Not even consoles are safe from aimbots now but I wont provide any details as once again I don’t want to promote this scummy behaviour.
I’m not the only person who plays overwatch on my PS4 so hard pass on being punished for something I didn’t do.

Call me crazy but I really don’t think this would solve anything. One cheaters will cheat no matter what, at best it would cut down the idiots who are the least likely to try and cheat more than once.
Worse though is I have serious doubts about the Blizzard team being able to detect cheating properly and not ban a bunch of people improperly. Currently we already have innocent people getting temp or perma banned for no reason. False flagging and reports are common and if a threshold is reached Blizzard seems to react with little to no human over sight.
Giving them more tools to punish bad behavior won’t really solve the issue and will drive players away. Even innocent players who don’t cheat won’t want to invest time and money into a game that can be taken away at the drop of a hat. And if you think a simple call to customer service will help you need a reality check.
Support has pretty much a zero tolerance policy on complaints. Your guilty with zero chance of turn over for the most part unless your a super popular Twitch streamer with fans to back you up. Their decisions are always final and they just shut down tickets instantly if you try to appeal.
Plus hardware/IP bans are just another buzz word companies like to use to try and prove they are doing something. They are obviously not effective or cheating wouldn’t exist. IP bans are some of the worst as often they have to ban a wide range of numbers to get some one as your IP can shift.
This means if they ban one person it can affect several along that same IP range. It’s the real reason they don’t IP ban every person that causes a problem.

If you ever study InfoSec, you will know that hackers all know how to spoof both their IP and MAC Address.
Hacker makes money selling cheats to their players, and if it require spoofing ip and mac address to protect them, they will provide it as long as they can continue selling the cheat.
This is only a temp solution and does more harm than good, since it can affect both innocent players and business that runs netcafes.
So like you Ip address?
Or household/location?
because this can be work around by playing on a pc made of old parts whic many players have.
It can be done through softwares and drivers. Some hardwares provide masking as well.
