There really is no need for role queue anymore, GOATS is very dead
When role queue was added, you took away creativity from the game, you also gave DPS players unbearable cooldown and forced people to stick to one role when players (like me) climbed off being able to flex between roles when needed.
Not to mention Top500 used to be the actual best 500 players in each region, and now really anyone can be top 500 as over 1500 spots are now open and what used to be purely Top tier ladder players and OWL players is now littered with Onetricks and trolls and frankly just boosted people.
I like open queue. I actually only play main tank in role queue and often times the impact I provide when the other team has either no Tanks or Roadhog is dramatically inflated. Playing tank when you’re potentially the only tank in the match makes your value insane. I’m like 3300 sr in open queue whereas I’m mid to high plat in rolequeue.
Tanks do not need to be balanced and playable for 1/4/1 AND 3/3 with 222.
222 removed bad quality solo healer/tank games.
QPC means people feel forced to pick tanks/healers when they didnt want to and didnt choose to beforehand.
222 removed many of the old “i can tell we’re gonna lose before we even left spawn” games where 4 people all decided to throw because they couldnt all pick Genji.
Yes, i did copy/paste this from another thread with the same unpopular demand to bring back OQ.
When Role Que first came in, I absolutely hated it. I wanted it reverted, the game felt like it became too slow and too stale.
And while that is still true… I no longer want Role Que reverted.
Yes the gameplay has slowed down, and the variety from game to game has decreased. But the game feels way more correct than it was. Compared to Open Que, Role Que gives ladder a bit more legitimacy.
Open Que rewards adaptability, and Role Que rewards proficiency. Which is why pretty much everyone became a One-Trick.
No, there were games where it was simply impossible to pick the right hero if you wanted to play as a tank or healer. You’d just have to resign to a bad game.
No, its impossible for a shield to be of equal effectiveness VS 1 DPS as it is VS 5 dps. 1 shield was far too weak, but put 3 together and you get GOATS. The numbers dont add up. It was a paradox.
It happened. “it didnt happen to me at my rank” is not an excuse for that. New players matter too.
its very possible? take a look at a hero like winston who worked the same way into almost any comp, and the only real problem were coming on is balancing around goats, and the way i see it, no brig = no goats
the casual playerbase does not matter as much as the playerbase that actually takes the game competitively
Winston with 1 healer vs 4+ dps = dead monkey. Brig was an enabler for goats, but not the core of the shield paradox. Also, the same paradox existed for healing - 1 healer with 5 DPS was too weak, 3 with GOATS was very strong. GOATS was a symptom of OQ. More similar comps would have appeared, especially with a 3rd shield tank being introduced.
I didnt say casual, i said NEW players. New players are massively important, since they’re the future of the money that comes into the game. You dont want them to come to your game, have a horrible time and leave forever.
if a winston jumps in alone against any comp he is dead meat, thats why u had coordinated dives that worked better against less tanky comps.
the shield paradox doesnt matter at all, any amount of shield you can match with dps and any amount of dps you can match with shield, people found comps that were actually good based off of team coordination on mechanical skill such as dive and rush, thats why u never had comps with more than 3 dps without a sombra or comps with more than 3 shields up until role queue because they could just be matched by other heavy sustain/heavy damage comps,
