They will be back. They are doing a system like HotS where maps are out of rotation for a certain amount of time. So next season they will be back and others will be swapped out.

they are just gimping the already content poor game in an artificial way with this method…

They explained why, its so that you only have to learn to play on select maps each season, to make it easier on as as they introduce more and more maps. It’s actually one of the few things they have done to show they are taking comp somewhat seriously.
There aren’t that many maps in this game and they are pretty simple.
They should have put in a vote between 3 maps system.
This was an odd change that nobody was asking for, there were quite a few map vote topics though.
