Yes, it was a bug. Yes, it messed up TTS.

Fix TTS. Make it more intuitive. But bring back coloured chat + emojis. They were fun.

They should just make a real emoticon system. Nothing too fancy I just wanna type :winston: in chat and get winston

It’ll be a paid feature if it ever comes back. I’m pretty sure they were experimenting to make it some paid cosmetic like Discord emotes or whatever. They couldn’t give stuff out for free

How was a chat full of colours and emojis a bug? Sounds like someone had to put in the work for some reason.

Those codes are used throughout the UI. They’re usually explicitly filtered from chat. The filter was broken - that’s the bug.

They aren’t emojis, they’re textures. You could use almost any texture from the game. Most of the popular ones were hero icons or sprays.

Is it like HTML where theres different “universal” elements in the code that can be used in a variety of ways?

Oh no, new grey and blue items to put into loot boxes instead of the nonstop duplicates I get now. That sounds terrible.

I saw someone do it last night in my game using hex code. Reminded me of the coloured chat I used to see in good ol’ runescape classic that I used to play as a kid :`)

I think they should leave colored text out since it is very easy to use maliciously to trick people. But chat emotes should’ve definitely stayed or been turned into a real feature. Give us back winton chat

A lot of old games allowed some fun colored text. Quake 3 games where the most fun. You could color your name. And even save preset text. You would do. /bind I “^7H^7i guys!” send Things like that. And you would just press I and it would just send that text. All the time.

Doubtful. This was a simple case of failing to sanitize inputs. It’s a programming mistake as old as programming itself. I’d love to know how far back this bug goes, it might have been in the game since 2016.
