Brig mains:share some tips for playing her

I’m trying to get better on the hero. Any advice would be nice. Some general and advanced tips. Any tech most don’t know. Stuff like that. Thanks :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Quoting the very underappreciated HolyShiftKid, playing Brig:

  • Brig is a Defensive character
  • Play mid-line, peel for your team
  • Use rally for offense normally
  • DON’T overpressure yourself for Inspire; focus on placement of repair packs
  • You must learn to shield dance (see Violet - I call it “shield flashing”)

People wanting to go on solo wilding attacks need not apply.

Brig doesn’t have any cool techs now I know of, they remove them every time someone discovers one : /

Just because you have a personal shield doesn’t mean you can be out of position (out of cover for long)

Her shield is shaped so that her feet are still exposed, so you can be easily bursted down if caught in the wrong position, despite holding up your shield

Jump bash.
Same thing Moira has. Just hold jump and let go of her barrier as soon as you bash to get extra distance. Good for chasing down kills, escaping enemies, and rushing to the point. It’s a basic thing, but I don’t see it used often.

Keep in mind that her barrier goes down briefly whenever she uses Repair Pack. So if you’re low on life or in a sniper’s sights, consider that before patching the 10 health missing from your Ana.

Remember her barrier is pretty small, and as such you want to aim it more accurately than Rein. If you don’t aim it properly, certain attacks can still clip her heels while you move.

Heal Wrecking Ball. He is your friend.

And for something less widely applicable, if you drop her shield as soon as it gets hit by damage over time (ie Ana’s darts), you can negate nearly all the damage.

Literally just exist and peel the other support. Easiest wins ever.

Shield bash Jumps are still a Thing even though they are much harder now. You can still go up to the first Checkpoint of Junkertown for example or directly from the Anubis A Objective onto the High Ground Defenders set up on normally. If you are really good you can even make the jump from lowground to that one buildings Roof around the corner of the first Dorado Corner.

Your Shield is tiny compared to your Hitbox. Look at stuff directly not just in the general Direction and DO NOT JUMP when trying to block anything with AoE like Shatter or D.Va Bomb. Your feet will be exposed and you will die.

Not really a brig main but I do play her occasionally. NEVER play solo. That’s the only tip I can give

Only use repair pack when a hero NEEDS it.
Play inside your team.
Get better at whipshot for obvious reasons.
Don’t try to force inspire when it’s not up, as you climb you’ll get punished more and more.
Never die with 250/250 shield, use it.
Shield bash is a great escape.

ALWAYS BE LOOKING AROUND.
You’ll get the most out of brig the more aware of the entire fight you become.

Protect your other healer.

This is vague and hardly the whole story, like any hero she’s complex.

Rally doesn’t mean charge in solo frontline.

Since we still have SB, don’t use it solely for offense. Use it to get away too

Don’t use SB every time it comes off cooldown. It sounds like common sense but I swear those players are a different breed lol

Don’t trust your shield against Shatter. It’s still super buggy since her release

I use SB mainly to reposition more than anything else…

Should I just spam it as soon it’s off cooldown to max inspire uptime? That’s kinda how I see high level Brig players use it.

Any time I see someone I can hit with relative ease I’ll do it (whether or not that’s right but it’s what works for
Me) I try to keep inspire yo mostly with whipshot.

Not saying this is 100% the right answer though

Brigitte’s shield has serious issues, particularly against explosions. Keep this in mind when dealing with a Pharah, Junkrat, Soldier, or Sigma.

And if Dva throws a bomb, go for cover instead of relying on the shield. You can line it up perfectly and still die.

Use it when it’s convenient, but don’t push yourself into bad positions to activate it. It is only really useful when healing is needed - a lot of Brigs just overdo this ( I was guilty until I saw the light after watching HolyShiftKid’s video). FWIW, it’s his video that finally opened my eyes to Mercy, a character I would swear I would never play… totally changed my view on her.

Its important to know those times when you should bash and not do anything else

Like the instinct is to bash and start swinging, or boop etc.

But sometimes it’s better for your safety, or for team mates to secure the kill instead, that you ONLY bash and do nothing else

My most important tip nearly nobody brings up usually, is recognizing how flexible Brig is.

There are so many tips and ideas how to play her, like “Stick tobyour support”, “Fokus on keeping onspire up” “Dont oack tanks”…
While most of them have a true core, they are usually useless. How you play Brig changes drastically depending on the matchup.

If you play her in Brawl you usually wanna focus a lot of inspire, because inspire and especially Rally profit Brawl comps so much. In Dive you wanna get a lot of value from packing flankers, while in Spam you want to focus on enabling certain team member to hold an offangle.
Amd even these tips can drastically change if even a few Hereos change. (FE. if you play Reaper in Brawl mirror pack becomes important again, if you have very aggresive Dps in spam pack will again have high prio and if you have a Zen in dive you already have another Support to
enable flanks, so you dont need to focus as much on packing your flankers anymore, while if the Winston/Dva switches to Winston/Zarya your goal of booping monkey drastically changes and far more examples)

Because of that, my tip is:
Try ro break Brigs kit apart into multiple pieces, like sustain (Rally and insoire value), Peeling (Whip and Bash protecting a mate) and packing (long range support).

At the start of every game, look at the matchup and look which aspect is needed and who needs it.

If you play a very split comp, inspire wont do much and focusing too much on keeping inspire alive isnt needed if you can get with something else more value. If you play a very grouped up comp you can peel gor everyone at the same time anyway so it doesnt need to be your priority, while packs are also less important, so try to focus on inspire. I think you get my point.

Different comps need totally different aspects from Brig and Brig is the only Mainsupport (Mercy Lucio Brig) who is that flexible in how you get value.
