Boycott 1/3/2 - solo tanking #neverAgain

As a support main who has recently taken up tanking as well: this sucks.
How can they say they want to do more for tanks and support so people will play those, then give dps more? It doesn’t make sense. Now healers are more unprotected, solo tanking has an incredible amount of responsibility, etc. So what use is a single nerfed shield if there are 3 dps knocking it down? Tanks are basically useless now.

Untrue, they are the most important member on that field in terms of winning the game. Tanks are OVERLY USEFUL, and with that overly usefulness they have, they also get stuck to doing the job and the job only. That responsibility is why there are less tank players than anything else.

Tank/support main. I tried to keep an open mind. Tried few tanks, tried all roles to at least see all the POVs. While playing as a support it feels as if you are not protected so much and the dives or snipers hurt. Played one game as a DPS but it felt messy. And tank, ye tank. If one of the three DPS chars were Mei, then tanking was utterly horrible. Saying you feel like a punching bag is like saying nothing. In other cases tanking was only frustrating or just not fun. If you dive snipers you leave your team and it feels bad, if you stay with your team and shield them, someone flanks them and it feels bad, if you go hog or Zarya it feels bad when enemy team shoots at yours which is always. It feels wrong knowing you don’t have your other tanking mate watching over you or the rest of your team or doing something useful. Plus, losing cool tank combos like Rein and Zarya or Hog Orisa knowing you get shorter queue times for dps feels disappointing. D.VA, Hog and Zarya feel as if they are completly out of place and full of band aids which simply don’t fit their playsyle JUST to make them remotely work in 123 enviroment. For example Zarya, you kind of want to stay behind the main tank to shield him, so he can lead the charge, now you need to do it and… if you want to shield your team now you need to turn away from the enemy. The more I played the more I disliked the changes. Eh.

With all of the nerfs they just had, tanks basically have 0 survivability if they’re solo-tanking. Dps is taking more damage, healers dying, it’s just not fun to play.

It really does feel completely unbalanced. There are just too many dps that can take advantage of a single tank, and there are too few tanks to choose from to actually make it work.
If they were to rework tanks to be a viable stand alone option, then it wouldn’t be so bad.

I disagree the problem with 2-2-2 is that tank abilities stack. Making them to strong or oppressive. This is the whole problem with double barrier, and why orisa and sigma got guttered to a point they are no longer tanks. 3-1-2 allows them to balance for the power fantasy tanks are supposed to be that 222 doesn’t allow

You proly played 1/3/2 into a normal comp that’s why it was trash. I’m a tank main and will try the mode first before branding it as instant trash.

If every player that didn’t like 2-2-2 boycotted the game (and there are A LOT), Overwatch would be empty by now.

I guess there are people that can make compromises on Overwatch and others that are plain selfish :man_shrugging: !

But don’t worry, I’m learning from you guys and I’ll boycott season 21 because of hero pools to “show Blizzard that I don’t want this change either”.

Oh me flagging the thread was enough to warrant a full flagged thread ^^’ !

Not the “Experimental card”, just solo tanking.

You will never have “fine time” solo tanking into Mei, Reaper and DF.

I already tried solo tanking, it’s what happens in QPC.

haha zarya can aoe bubble now shes fun

What are you talking about. I hate playing tanks yet i really like playing solo tank. Much more fun.

Better for the main game - not too great for 1/3/2.
Buuuut it isn’t tank balancing that is making tank hard to play for you.
I’m a tank main so I find that mode “Easier” but at the same time many times more frustrating by how passive I have to play if I get into a decently skilled lobby, you stop doing your job especially on defense even for a moment and someone dies and then I end up following them back to spawn. The tank battle is “Easier” but the job of tanking becomes so strict, i think the reason the tank battles are easier for me is because we can’t actively get into a brawl because we are playing so passively. Even with how they’ve balanced it - it seems clear the games bones aren’t meant to be used this way, the rest of the games balance is relative to having 2 tanks, by only changing the tanks this test is kinda bunked.

My feedback is the same as I thought it would be. Too much responsibility when the game is played properly being placed onto one person, it’s not a lack of resources - it’s the fact angles no matter how you play WILL be open and they need to not be otherwise we are stuck on the spot, the amount is FINE. The game around it though is not, it’s making a resource even more important than it is in 2/2/2 where it’s already TOO important. They need to decrease reliance on cookie cutter barrier gameplay spread mitigation across the roster and change the power struggle between burst and tick based damages by making armor actually hamper them equally and give some heroes an element of armor that can even up the scales between because right now - Soldier does 120 damage vs a target with armor and he loses like 25 to the void, people who damage below 10 lose half of their damage, and widow hits a headshot and that does 295 damage vs an armored target. With armor being an everpresent mechanic in tanks, and on “Some” heroes armor is placed by LORE rather than balance, armor is a completely misused mechanic by the dev team and it has made barriers TOO IMPORTANT in mitigating one shot capabilities because nothing else does. If they proportionately spread armor between strategic picks in the roster there would be a valid way the game could reduce complete RELIANCE on barriers.

It’s way easier to move vs tick than it is vs burst, and you don’t randomly instantly lose someone because you didn’t have your shield up.

It’s not the amounts that make it feel bad, the game around it obviously isn’t made for the mode and that is the crux of the issue, the responsibility has been shifted onto a single player for most of the win condition that allows them near 0 free time. As far as I can tell though the heroes to pick are D.Va, Rein, and Orisa - winston to a lesser degree also, but the other tanks are trash even with the juiced up versions they are now for 1/3/2. Still an overwhelming amount of emphasis being put into BLOCKING being the most important tool in the game.

it’s no surprise to me though that people don’t like it, it isn’t great. You just consolidated a job of 2 people onto one person and made them have to do MORE of it. That’s not a “Fun” path to victory, but it’s the path.

They’ve tried. It’s been hidden by flags twice. And twice it’s been reinstated because I haven’t actually broken any rules. I’ve just got a very strong opinion and some people don’t like it.

So you’re the one.
