Bots in competitive?

I know im EXTREMLY late to the party but just hopped on an old account i havent played on in awhile after taking a long break got in a comp game and the enemies were just bots that stood right outside spawn to be killed can someome explain why this happens.

if you group q yea deranking accounts and bots galore

reason is to lower the rank of the bot accounts to sell online to smurf/do a challenge

So its people doing it?

Bit of an over-exaggeration, I group Q majority of the time I play OW and have never once come across this

Just report them and move on

yea some dude with 6 computers running bot scripts to derank accounts is my guess

Guess i got lucky lmao third game in almost year and i got it in a solo queue

To clarify there are no game-controlled AI in any mode outside of Play vs. AI. If you suspect a teammate or an opponent is using macros or a controlled interface to farm XP please report them for Cheating.

I Couldn’t pin point who it was it was 6 bots

There are AI bot cheats. It follows the player it’s grouped with. As in an actual AI with one real person to lead it.

Unless that’s what you mean.

Basically what I am saying is Blizzard doesn’t provide bots unless you are playing a Custom game (and you activate the in-game AI) or the Play vs. AI mode in the Training Menu, if there are a bunch of bots following a specific player, those are likely macro controlled in some way by a player. Automating controls of the game is considered cheating (and while it is not a competitive advantage in any way, it is considered farming XP).

Has this changed? In the past few months playing Comp, I have had matches where the other team for sure is Blizzard bots. They run out of their spawn and stop right outside the entryway. The just stand there as we kill them over and over until the time runs out. Happens both rounds and of course we win the game and gain some free points. Others there complained about the same happening to them before.

It’s not an exaggeration, you’re just in Diamond.

Derankers start at ~2350 like all new accounts and only go down from there. Because they are throwing to derank. They will only match with golds during placements, place below gold, and never go up unless they match against another thrower stack.

Therefore, anyone whose rank is higher than gold will never see them. That doesn’t mean they aren’t there, it means they aren’t in your rank.

Edit: Oh. Six months later. Bleh.

“Blizzard bots” are the mythical bots that Blizzard puts into games for nefarious purposes in order to control the ranks and make sure only the Chosen People rank up and the Targeted People only rank down. They’re a paranoid fever dream.

Deranking stacks where the players are hard-throwing the match either by simply multi-windowing or by macros do exist and have always existed, nothing has changed.

Huge necro thread.

But the game is or was on sale; they level the accounts up to 25 and then re-sell them. So I mean, as long as there is a demand for sold accounts regardless of level, I don’t think there is a reasonable way to stop it from happening.

Interesting. So I should be reporting them when this happens?

Absolutely. It’s Gameplay Sabotage to be throwing games, and Cheating to have your heroes controlled by software.
