I was playing mercy on attack in Volkswagen Industries and we were in that big warehouse where point B is. We had just symm-port-cheesed the left side to take point A instantly, and we were carrying that team-kill tempo towards point B. However, in that warehouse, I made a grave mistake- Briefly, I overextended.
The enemy team took advantage of my aggressive positioning and, with my team /behind/ me (who fell back slightly after our lucio overextended and got targeted), I realized I had to get behind cover or it was gg for this push. So I was walking towards the small stack of crates or whatever it is (left-facing-the-point) but I wasnât going to make it in time. My health at 140âŠ70âŠ40âŠ, internally, I had accepted the death and was ready to think about regrouping with my team, but suddenly⊠my health stopped ticking down. Not really thinking about why, I pressed E to rez the lucio that had died by the crates, and during the rez I saw in my periphery why I had survived. D.Va was standing right there, defense matrix down (presumably was just up), and taking damage for me right in the enemyâs line of sight.
Whatâs the topic thatâs so important, tanks? Bodyblocking.
Because of that brave bodyblocking (which I feel like is so rarely seen in this way), I was able to let myself heal, heal D.Va (who pretty much all the enemy dps was directed at for the moment), and go on to win the push and therefore the game with roughly 4 minutes to spare.
The most survivable Mercies, in my experience, are the ones who juke you just until theyâve positioned themselves on the opposite side of a teammate, and repeat it if you come close to them again.
Imo itâs more about the Mercy using her meatshields than the meat consciously shielding for her.
Bodyblocking is underutilized. You can more specifically do things like bodyblock an allied McCree during ult and take things like Sleepdarts directed at him, doesnât matter if you get slept or somehow die because if he kills multiple people then the fight is won.
A great buff for Roadhog is whomever he body block while taking a breather, he serves as a solid object/ wall.
Meaning, if a D.va bomb is right infront of him and he blocks that Mercy while taking a breather, then the Mercy will survive that bomb, since it blocks LoS
Yep⊠and itâs not even just restricted to tanks. Zenyattaâs invulnerability during Transcendence lets him block everything for âfree.â I actually watched an allied McCreeâs POTG just last night that was a full screen picture of me (Zen) for most of it, until everyone died to his Deadeye.
Bastion can also block pretty well, since he essentially has the size and durability of a tank while self-healing, not to mention immunity to major knock effects like Rocket Punch in sentry mode.
too many trash tanks in gold that donât know what body blocking is. Yes iâm talking about you orisas who let teammates die in front of you while you wait to put shield back up, and sigmas, i barely know they exist. They have almost 0 impact until you hear their ultimate
Anyone can bodyblock, offensively or defensively. Pretty sure what youâre describing here is facetanking though. I think bodyblocking is physically stopping the enemy by blocking them with your body.
Itâs like in real life, Guys are not chivalrous or polite when they let women out of the elevator first, they are simply looking at your @zz as you exit the elevator
On a serious note, I always body block people who are slept.
I like to see how long I can survive before they wake up lol
Anaâs always have dagger eyes for sleeping people⊠but they tend to think twice when Roadhogâs fat @zz is standing in front of them.
I will use my tanks bodys to block all the time as dps. Those guys that canât see through the shield, heck I canât see through my tank⊠But thatâs ok neither can they. Plus I might accidentally get healed:)
Hammond is the best way to learn body block because thats his block. Also the other part of body blocking is body mobility blocking, i.e. physically stopping the enemy from getting somewhere. Particularly in doorways.
I was going to mention him. Hamster is great, tremendously good for bodyblocking outside of his ball form. He doesnât have a âtraditional shieldâ, but he can definitely peel for squishies.
