This year, in order to get into Blizzcon, Blizzard is requiring participants to download a mobile app known as AXS,
Looking further into it, AXS is actually spyware that will have access to all of your personal information stored on your phone that the TOC of said app says they have the complete right to share and/or sell with a long list of companies.
The list of personal information that the app’s privacy statement says they do this with include:
- your IP address
- Your billing address
- Your credit card number
- Your email adress
- Your phone number
- Your security code
- device make/number
An article was written about it:

And popular youtuber TheQuartering has also made a video discussing it:
Personally, I find all of that far too much of a gamble just to attend Blizzcon, Think I’ll pass

Tencent wants all of our info is why

Their reasoning for it is irrelevant to me, I certainly wouldn’t want someone having apparently unobstructed access to my personal info like that

i mean…stopping scalpers from ripping people off by mass buying all the tickets using bots seems like a decent reason, though i just wonder why this app

“ I did some searching around and found numerous articles about what the app takes, and who it sends it to. In short, the most thorough write-up I found in about 30 minutes of searching states that the app scrapes of ton of data from your phone, including your first and last name, precise location (as determined by GPS, WiFi, and other means), how often the app is used, what content is viewed using the app, which ads are clicked, what purchases are made (and not made), a user’s personal advertising identifier, IP address, operating system, device make and model, billing address, credit card number, security code, mailing address, phone number, and email address. It doesn’t say that it also takes your contacts but it would be trivial to do so. AXS’s privacy statement says that they share/sell the information with a LOT of other companies (more details in the article I linked).”
YYeeeaaa that’s a huge no.
Instant boycotting Blizzcon because they require attendees to install spyware.
Tons of innocent people have already probably downloaded this app and all their information stolen because the tickets came to sale today.

Blizz being cheapskates and not doing any bit of research, they just grabbed the first free app to try and combat scalpers.
But who needs scalpers when you got this?

It looks like 200 USD per ticket isn’t enough for Blizzard. Now they want your personal informations to sell to any company they want.

Oof, what were they thinking? I feel sorry for all the people who bought tickets already and were forced to download the spyware. The video said the first round of tickets sold out, that’s quite a few people who probably already have their information out there.

Blizzard has just hit a new low. Why, just why does Blizzard think people would be 100% fine with them sharing almost everything about their personal details to unknown companies/people?
I guess now people have brought their expensive tickets so they can’t go back now… (unless they can refund them)
