-The Archives missions should be permanently available in the missions tab
-There should be an ‘arcade’ version of the existing Invasions missions where you can play any hero with any skin
-The Junkenstein modes should be in the arcade
-Play vs AI stats should contribute towards progression (Marvel Rivals does it)
I understand that their original ideas were too ambitious, but completely abandoning all PvE was just a bad idea. I’m not even asking for new missions or anything at this point, just make existing PvE content permanently available. There really isn’t any reason not to at this point. It’s not like archives being a limited event is saving this game from dying or anything.
I’m sure they want to. It’s just beyond their means currently. Also Aaron Keller has basically confirmed that the Archives missions are lost or broken or just incompatible with the current engine. They would have to remake them from scratch if they wanted to put them back into the game.
I do think the current missions should just be free and should allow all heroes though.
Some of them are no longer compatible with the engine OW2 runs on (specifically retribution, which was mentioned on Frogger’s Spotlight stream). They said they would have to recreate the whole thing from scratch and they don’t think there’s a good enough reason to do so.
Not to mention Retribution was lore-critical, but lore doesn’t seem to be in the budget these days…
They really should just make the missions free for everyone at this point and give purchasers the equivalent amount in coins. Maybe teams would actually fill up, and honestly they would be a super fun tutorial of sorts to learn the basic mechanics of the game.
I think there is a market for it, but I do have to admit the size of that is dramatically less than simply focusing on the PvP.
When I look to all of the popular PvE shooters out there none of them come to the size of the PvP shooters. PvE is huge when like a slower RPG, not a shooter.
True. That too. The problem with PvE is that once they learn what build works and learn AI pattern it became too boring. Maybe something like AI director that L4D has might work and/or nemesis from LOTR (rip Monolith). Those can spice things up. Imagine fighting a boss that learn your moves and implement them immediately or your next playthrough. Nvidia ACE does something like that.

Imagine fighting Talon Heavy Assault that adapts. It could be challenging and fun.
The best thing about PvE is that those who never go into pvp and those who wanted to chill down and play with their friends & family can just hope into and play whatever heroes they want and simply play.
That’s very interesting and buries the conspiracy-tinged argument that OW2 is not a new engine as such.
I don’t personally have any interest in those archive missions coming back but I think it would be a good bone to throw to those that do. I wonder how much work it is, I guess it’s not as simple as we think otherwise it would have happened by now?
They already proved they couldn’t do it when they were given 2 years to work on OW2 (2 lol) exclusively while abandoning OW1.
These devs had 2 whole years to do it and couldn’t get it done, literally zero progress and nothing to show for any of their PVE work. I don’t know what else you would need to give them to make it in their “means”.
Probably a massive increase in budget as well as perhaps the Activision side not interfering with their creative freedom.
It’s probably true though. Overwatch 2 uses a different/updated engine from Overwatch 1, which is what Archives was made in. It would be like trying to take a random mission from Diablo 3 and sticking it in Diablo 4 and expecting it to work with zero compatability issues. It’s probably even more difficult than that because Archives involved creating mob AI for an engine that wasn’t designed for mob AI.
The PvE missions are fun, sure. But even if they are new, they are only interesting for a couple weeks at most. Then it’s just another thing in arcade that is forgotten/ignored by 85% of people.
We have been getting random PvE things, so they are giving “some attention” to it.
