Just to start off, I think the game should be balanced according to pro play, which is why i admire that blizzard is finally doing this. However there is a difference between pro play and pros’ opinions themselves in my opinion. When Blizzard changed sombra, i was happy that she is finally fully meta (not that it particularly matters in competitive ladder as any hero can do well if the person is good, but lets not take this into account so as to not overcomplicate things and for the sake of the point). However after only a small amount of time, people started already complaining about hack, which is what people do unfortunately as an irrational kneejerk reaction to something they think might be overpowered. When sombra got buffed, i believe she reached a pick rate of almost 4% in GM, which is a VERY HEALTHY pickrate. She was somewhat in the middle, with PLENTY of heroes being far above her with pickrates triple that of hers. However people still complained despite there being no indication of her being OP in the actual sense of the term (example of an actual op hero: mercy after rework, ana during triple tank, dva during triple tank, etc.). In fact according to statistics she wasnt even close to being op, unlike dva, Tracer and Moira, whos usage and amount of things they can do and are good at put them so high up that theyre arguably borderline op. However, her hack with the increased speed felt very oppressive to play when combined with her leniency of it, and you would often get bullsh*t hacks that shouldnt have gone through and this made her feel too oppressive and also a bit broken in the context of that one ability. Pros complained about it as well, however instead of just removing the leniency and making the hack fair, blizzard went further and decided to nerf her hack by putting in on a cd when interrupted, which made it even harder for Sombra to hack a variety of heroes shes supposed to counter such as dva and tracer, heroes that desperately needed more counters. This essentially and undeniably made her hack go back to its previous state of balance where it is as hard to land a hack as with the no-cd 0.8 sec leniency hack from before. Considering that her emp charge was nerfed which is a huge nerf and that the only other buffs remaining are tp time buff (small buff), spread buff (big buff) and passive hack buff (seemingly strong but only truly strong against genji, lucio and pharmacy specifically, only the first two of which are very meta). Her pickrate right now is higher than before, but it has dropped down to slightly above 1%, which is obviously better than 0.4% but still obviously unhealthy.
The point im making her is that there was no need for the 2 sec interruption cd on hack, that the pros had a kneejerk reaction to sombra because they had literal PTSD from mercy meta in which one character was incredibly op and that literally every balance change since sombras buff has been detrimental to sombra, effectively further lowering her place in the meta right now and also in the future (Brigitte hard counters Sombra due to stun, armour and burst heal, reaper and mei who both counter sombra are getting very good buffs and will be able to counter her even better since they themselves are going to be better, meanwhile the return of a ‘slow comp’ likely means more mccrees and junkrats, both hard counters of sombra). So please blizzard, we all know that you will have to eventually buff sombra again due to all of the aforementioned circumstances, so why not do it sooner rather than later and at least start by reverting the 2 sec cd on hack interruption. Because right now its really not fun to be unable to hack a tracer in the middle of the teamfight if shes even remotely aware of your presence, or having a dva cancel your hack from 20 km away. It feels like you might as well revert the hack changes completely and it would not change the hack consistency from where it is now, which is what you tried to buff, and this feeling isnt very good.
