Blizzard not recognising Overwatch is on my computer

Hi, so lately when I’ve been opening battlenet launcher, it shows an “update” button on Overwatch, with no update information, and when I press it, there’s about a 50/50 chance of it either:

  1. Giving the blzbntagt00000bb8 error (I have checked, it’s not my security software and going into “Scan and repair” just comes up with another blzbntagt00000bb8 error.

  2. Immediately loading the “update” that doesn’t exist, giving the “Overwatch is now playable” message, and allowing me to play.

It’s also no longer being recognized by Razer Synapse, though that may be a separate issue entirely.

The only thing I could think of that changed is that Battlenet and Overwatch are both on my SSD and I’ve just downloaded WoW today on my HDD. Nothing else has changed since today and the last time I opened up the game.

Hello sinbrook!

Sorry to hear you’re having issues updating… is the SSD with Battle.net the C:\ drive where Windows is? There are permissions issues that can arise if the Battle.net drive is not on the same drive as the OS.

There are some other permissions and data repair steps we should try, too.

First, let’s clear out the Battle.net app’s cache folder. The update may be getting stuck on damaged or incomplete files in the cache.

Deleting Battle.net Files

If the installation gets stuck again, let’s check if any of your security programs are reacting to the updating process. It may be necessary to temporarily disable such programs.

Disabling Security Applications

There may also be a Windows setting interfering. Secondary logon service allows apps to request admin-level permissions on a case-by-case basis, for functions such as creating or editing files (important during patching!)

Secondary Logon Service (this requires a reboot to take effect)

Best of luck in your adventures

Hi, thanks for the response. The SSD drive is the C:\ drive with windows, yes.

I’ve tried clearing the cache, that just made battlenet think that Overwatch and WoW were not even installed on the PC at all, until I located the files for it, then it went back to the “update” thing.

There’s no stuck installation, I fear that might be a miscommunication on my end. It says there are updates for both WoW and Overwatch, but there aren’t actually any updates, both games are fully up to date. Despite this, it still says to “update” (with no information about the “update” as there would normally be) and pressing the update button either causes the error message or lets me enter the game.

As I said above, it’s not my security software, I’ve already allowed battlenet clearance, and I’d tried disabling it completely too, no change.

Secondary logon service didn’t help either.

This seems to be an issue with battlenet not actually able to find the files it needs, it’s not recognising that Overwatch is even on my computer.
