Numbers don’t lie and i’m sorry to all the Knights of Aaron and Defenders of Blizzard but you can’t argue with numbers. OW2 is one of the worst performing viewing experiences month on mon on a constant decline only really being able to compete with MW2 Multiplayer with even Warzone beating it out by at least 30k.
Valo holds steady at 100-200k
Warzone around 30k-50k
OW2 and MW2 MP around 20-25k
This after a massive launch count of 450k viewers getting sliced in half month on month until we reached this point with occasional spikes for events or new seasonal launches.
Blizzard really needs to look at it’s competetors and see what they’re doing, there’s no shame in borrow and tweaking mechanics to fit your game, that’s quite literally what the Experimental Playlist is for.
Blizzard either need to wise up, patch up the leaks and do something with the IP to actually make it a sequel or Season 6 will be make or break for the game and it’ll likely end up the same way HotS and OW1 did.
Not sure why we should care about this? I play the game, I don’t watch others play the game. I care about my personal playing experience much more than how it feels for some random person watching people play OW.
Because Blizzard has half a braincell and i don’t know if you’ve noticed, tends to do dumb crap to pull new people into the game, like oh i dunno, making a sequel and the scrapping 80% of everything new. Viewerships down, new people aren’t joining, Blizz is gonna pull a stunt like likely screws over existing players for new players to drop a quick buck.
Viewership has been down since 2018 as the game started aging and popular streamers started leaving. OW is just fundamentally NOT a fun game to watch. The best OW videos I’ve seen are just meme compilations of dumb or funny things. Which don’t happen often enough to make for longterm entertaining viewership.
The people still watching primarily watch because they like the content creator themselves or because they’re trying to get better at x hero or x rank and are trying to learn.
I’ve never sat down and thought “man, sure would be fun to watch me some OW gameplay right now”. I enjoy playing the game. The only good time I’ve had watching anything OW related was Redshell or Flats “bronze players” videos. The only time I’ll “watch” OW gameplay these days is for rewards, and only IF I care enough about the hero, otherwise you can find me playing the game.
Can we also just talk about how we are using Twitch numbers to equate to actual player populations? There is minimal correlation between them. If you are going to argue that OW needs to improve its viewing experience I would agree, but from a pure player population perspective Valorant and OW2 are VERY close in terms of actual people playing the game.
And yet out performs OW on a majority of aspects and the boot lickers of Blizzard can’t even use the Fact OW has a paywall to enter as a defence any more because it quite literally doesn’t
