Blizzard, its time for a role queue

Let us queue for specific roles to end the toxicity that spawns from the moment you enter the hero selection screen.

There is the argument that people don’t want a meta defined by you guys but every time a player driven meta greatly sways away from 2/2/2 the majority of people become upset anyway. So why not?

Each player could have an SR for each category, support/Tank/DPS

Choose a role to queue for and you’re now limited to the heros that define the role you queued. (Heros like Roadhog and Dva, for example, could count as both a tank and dps hero which would allow some diversity to composition. In other words, the term DPS/Tank/Support can be fairly broad)

Now I understand some people, for example, might feel obligated to switch from one role to another if they feel a current player isn’t properly playing their role. But this notion in it self is what causes a lot of toxicity to begin with.

It wouldn’t feel as bad to lose a match while queued for a particular position (Such as support role) if it did not affect your Tank or DPS role SR. You’d have the feeling you did everything you could with in the role you selected prior to joining a game and not be left wondering if you could have done more playing a different role.

No, it isn’t time at all. And it never will be.

I thought we came to consensus that it enforces a meta which they don’t want?

I don’t think this could force the 2/2/2. There’s several categories people can get sorted into.

  • Assault

  • Flanker

  • Sniper

  • Medic

  • Bodyguard

  • Crowd Control

  • Area Denial

  • Flexible

By having a preference, maybe two preferences, matchmaking could be enriched.

Agreed, we just need clans/guilds

I think this deserves a :arrow_double_up: because to be honest, it was sort of promised we’d have that.

When was it ever promised?

Jeff was talking about it. It was quite a time back about 6-8 months after the official release. He thought a clan/team system was a good idea.

No offense Invoker but this is a bad idea. Because the majority doesn’t like non 2/2/2 doesn’t allow a “Why not?” attitude about it.

Having separate SR for every category and forcing you into a role will not allow counter picking or having another healer because someone picked Sym (which is pretty common since Sym is a mini dragonblade) which is a core concept of Overwatch. LoL (maybe it was HotS?) has a role queue thing but you are stuck with your pick the whole game. You cannot change your hero.

It simply will not work in a game which allows you to change hero and requires counter picking.

Oh and triple/quad tank is an actual, usable strat and you kind of want to delete it :stuck_out_tongue:

That isn’t role queue. A clan is a small group that basically friends each other but in a, well, clan. So is a team system. It allows you to plan beforehand but does not force 2/2/2 or anything that role queuing would do.

It’s like forming a group on discord but ingame instead.

Oh and talking about something isn’t promising anything. They could have talked about anything but it isn’t a promise.

I didn’t say we should be stuck with one hero, just limited to heros that define a specific role with those terms being fairly broad.

That wasn’t my point. I was comparing a game which can have role queue because you can’t change your hero, to one that would be wrecked by it because you can, and are, encouraged to change heroes or roles to counter or do stuff like 3 tanks 2 healers 1 dps. Maybe even 4 tanks 2 healers.

basically, in a game about having flexibility with your picks (counterpicking), restricting it is bad.

The problem with a role queue is that it will always cause an issue in comp forming.

If you enforce a strict hard limit role queue of 2/2/2, you lose out on zany comps like triple or quad tank. Also, if I’m on DVa and I feel like someone else might do a better job tanking than me this game (and asking someone to trade roles with you isnt always toxic. I ask to heal when I feel like Im being bad at tank), there’s nothing to be done as I locked in Tank. I

f there isn’t a strict lock, then the role queue is basically useless as its not enforceable. Queue times for a healer would be shorter than dps generally, so a soft lock system would allow a dps player to just queue as a healer and then switch. Sure you could report them, but is it really poor teamwork if they’re still trying to win? (At least based on 1 trick logic)

If you allow Flex picks, you still have the issue of people not fulfilling expected roles. You can just lock in whatever you want. You can say this is reportable, but realistically it falls under the same category as one-tricking- can you tangibly prove they weren’t trying their hardest to win?

Some people suggest a 1 tank 1 healer 4 flex system, but I’d rather play qp if I’m gonna play with 4 dps every game.
