Blizzard doesn’t have the “tooling” to change production quickly. They will implement things that the community has been asking for years, slowly, pretend like they invented the idea, and the cultist loyal fanbase will remain.
Will it draw in new customers? Some, sure. But the pro scene appears to be moving to MR and that itself is advertisement, hype, constant public attention etc that has all but left the OW sphere. OW can’t get that back. They shot their shot and missed.
Probably not. While the dev team may see the need to change content cadence or make significant changes, those above them don’t care. As long as microtransaction money is rolling in at the predicted amount, they won’t authorize any significant changes. Especially if it means spending additional funds or dedication of additional resources.
When the microtransactions start drying up due to a reduced playerbase, they’ll just throw the game into maintenance mode.
I don’t have much faith in Blizzard management navigating the challenge of significant competition.
Like how NTMR is dominating MR and did not perform so well in OWCS…? I guess they focused on MR and didn’t practice OW that much. Honestly, can’t blame them, and I like this. I have begun to hate OW’s overly money minded practices so much that every player/team moving to MR gives me satisfaction.
Kinda hard to say if Blizz is in panic mode considering it’s the holidays, but anyway. My guess is that they’ll carry on as they were planning to, pretty much. Possibly with the exception of offering more stuff along the lines of the 222 test than they were planning to? But even then, they might have been inclined to offer more of those over time regardless of whether Rivals pulled a Concord or not.
I’d imagine they were already working on something along the lines of a character variation system for the next big shake-up a la season nine. I don’t think Rivals will change that.
funny how you didn’t reply to my text (in another thread) quoted with your message where I ask proof for your claim that MR has bots and gives false wins to boost ranks… yet you are here replying to my other text…
Honestly didn’t see it. (Just also had a quick scan through your posts, don’t see it either, so maybe that’s why I didn’t reply) . Link it, and I’ll scoot along and respond.

To give free wins, in order to boost retention. It’s in causal, not ranked.
Far easier for them to add new heroes though. They don’t have to do any design work, story, lore, just decide what abilities to take from else where and run with it.
I’m sure they have a year long road map and nothing will deviate from that. They don’t care if they’re losing players. That’s what games do. They’re not even compensating their streamers anymore and that’s all they had lefts
I honestly doubt the game is “struggling” like many believe. They may have had a dip in numbers but only time will tell if it’s significant enough to seriously impact the bottom line.
What I will say though, is that I think at this point a refresh and rebrand couldn’t hurt. There’s realistically no point in keeping the “2” in overwatch anymore - it’s almost an anchor and seems to closely tied to all the failed promises.
I’d completely revamp the battlepass, the progress systems, the menus and drop the 2. And release it all at the same time with a couple decent old school animated shorts tied to some killer overwatch skins for the $$. I’d also keep 6v6 and keep adding fun game modes like “classic” and the last junkenstein experiment.
Anything that was going to happen this year is already planned out and another game releasing is not going to change any of that
I’m not really sure what people think game development looks like, but they’re not going to all of sudden say “ok boys, instead of 3 heroes this year, let’s release 10….crank out 4 more maps…and, um, make a new game mode by March”
