Blizzard, hear me out: OW2 Rogue-like Mode

I think a rogue-like mode would be perfect for Overwatch 2.

In the upcoming Hero Missions, characters will level up and choose talents, and this will take place over many missions and a long period of time. That sounds great, and I can’t wait to play those missions. But I think there’s also a great opportunity to build a rogue-like mode from these features, just as an additional mode within OW2.

Four players load into a match. Each “run” consists of a series of rooms/arenas that the heroes fight through one by one, through waves of enemies or bosses or even AI-controlled heroes (like in Junkenstein). After completing certain rooms, the heroes gain talents, progressing rapidly through the talent system over the course of a single run. There could also be random buffs/debuffs/modifiers gained as you progress through the run…

And like any rogue-like, all progress would be lost at the end of each run. This mode could be used just to gain some currency or unique skins, as opposed to leveling up heroes in the persistent system used for Hero Missions.

WoW has added a rogue-like system already, and it seems like a much more natural fit for a game like Overwatch – especially since we are going to have these skill trees in the game anyway. We have everything we need! Just bolt some randomized rooms together, fill them with enemies, and see what happens!

What do you guys think? Anyone have any thoughts on a Rogue-like mode for OW2?

Is rogue-like basically a CSGO shop?

Eh guess it could work, would be cool for PvP tho

Sure. Gunfire Reborn and Deep Rock Galactic got that whole PVE roguelike down solid.

Nah, a Rogue-like is basically a game that is procedurally generated and has perma-death. Instead of a typical game that has you level up over many hours, in a Rogue-like you start over from scratch for each run, and go until you die (or beat the game), at which point you start over from the beginning. You don’t keep your progression between runs. The levels are also procedurally generated, so each run is different. And typically you are given random power-ups over the course of a run (with some choice), as opposed to typical RPG’s that let you pick exactly what you want as you level up.

Some popular Rogue-like games are Hades, Dead Cells, Spelunky, Slay the Spire, etc.

you should try dead cells and streets or rogue fam!

also at some point i was like hmmm how would a pvp rogue-like be like?.. oh that’s just the battle royale genre…

deep rock…I wouldnt call a rogue like, as you dont start with nothing…its more uh…idk, but I wouldnt call roguelike
