Blizzard doesn't understand their own characters

Like… what is that new Reaper emote, man.

I know I said that I wanted a new dance emote for Reaper where he actually dances, but… I didn’t mean something that looks like a TikTok dance. Like what is that starting pose he hits and when would Reaper ever do something like that…

Just equip the OW1 skin and it highlights just how ridiculous he looks. This is a lifeweaver emote, not a Reaper emote.

Just had a look and it isn’t bad, sometimes you can still do joke emotes with edgy characters, like the one where he eats a cookie, or the one where he does a goofy shrug.

Just wish it looped and wasn’t a one-time dance.

Plus just imagine it’s Gabriel Reyes dancing, he’d probably do something like that.

This is a weird thing to complain about ngl. I really didn’t think emotes were lore or necessarily have to match the character.

well they did in overwatch 1, pharah laugh emote is she realizing she lost composture and go back to be the militar gal she was in ow1, her sit emote wasnt she actuall sitting but being on a rest position, in overwatch 1 almost all comsetics fit the characters. how we have reaper droping a mic, wtf?

That particular emote is complete garbage, it fits none of the characters at all, they just snap into position, drop a hollow cardboard cylinder, then regain control of their limbs IG.

Reaper would absolutely snap the mic in half and throw it at you, if they could be bothered to actually animate it beyond a stock mic drop rig.

But other than that, characters have their personality in their emotes, but you can still have goofy outliers like any of the terrorist characters dancing, or Illari not crying in every emote because she got a 600 kill by accident.

But it’s overwatch 2 now and they progressed did they not? Isn’t overwatch 2 a few years after overwatch 1 in the future. I imagine the characters slightly changed right?

I gotta say, it doesnt fit Reaper at all. Feels too KPOP to me.

The Devs have been playing Fortnite again…

in theory you are right and i would love to see that actual developement in game but in reality not every character has changed, actually i would say very few characters changed from ow1 to ow2, the character that changed the most is pharah, she went from the serious militar to… i really cant tell what she is now, but they invented a crush on mercy due popular demandm and this came out of nowhere, wasnt exactly a smooth transition. reinhard, tracer, lucio, to mention some, literally the same character, and even i dont see lucio droping the mic, he is too nice guy to do that

he has a dance?!?

goes online now to check it out **

edit:
dam i dont have it and its locked… did i miss something?

oh i didnt even know this was a thing 2 years ago… guess i dont play reaper much or pay attention to him

He has a new one as well, apparently. It looks pretty fly. No idea what it is tied to. Sombra, Freya, and Lucio also have new ones.

I think its in the BP.

That bull dance is classsssiiiic.

The cookie and the shrug are both references (Cookie for the Christmas short he had with tracer and the shrug is from his retribution comic). Even in the cookie emote, he’s at least stance’d up how he normally would be. I could very easily see Reaper eating military rations like that.

I also don’t think this qualifies as goofy. This just looks like a k-pop dance or some sort of weird tiktok trend dance. Reaper’s from L.A., so he should be able to bust a move that fits his personality fairly easily (lots to choose from and this is just not it).

Every emote from OW1 was the same action, but with a character’s own personal flair. They all have a taunt, a sit, a dance, a laugh, and so on.

Also, what’s the point of emotes if they don’t express a characters individuality? You lose out on “hero fantasy,” as the devs put it.

Yes. This is exact frustration that I have towards this emote. It feels like a universal emote that they just stuck on Reaper because he was getting a street wear skin.

Reaper changed for the worse, if anything. He’s even more frustrated and bloodthirsty now, so the emote is very out of place.

Oh god, I blocked that other one out of my memory. That one can at least be attributed to Hispanic folklore or something, but I still don’t think it would be something Reaper would even consider doing.

It’s for the new street wear skins. It’s a “Dance-off” emote, so you’re supposed to battle another player with that same emote (e.g lucio’s dance-off that’s in the BP)
