Blizzard can easily reduce file size!

I don’t understand how this game has reached 50gb on PS5 even tho it uses compression built in. I can only imagine whats on pc, xbox and switch. They should really get rid of hero mastery and pve and have it as an optional download!

I dont mind the file size just when it’s bloat or content that should be optional downloads. Even cod allows optional downloads and apex recently had to rework on compression and reduce file size because it was getting way too big.

50GB isn’t that big. Cod is like over 200.

They’ve done optional downloads with other titles, so it makes sense to do it here. However, since the game adds new maps and heroes pretty regularly, that file size is just going to climb back up.

The full install of Ark is like 375.

Destiny 2 is also just massive. 50GB is a small nowadays for AAA games. Also for some reason PS5 version of games are bigger than PS4 versions. Not sure what changes but it’s normally a 10-20GB difference.

Exactly! I dont mind if file size gets big for the main game. But i just dont wont so much bloat i am not going to be using it. Also yah as you said it will just get bigger in the future so they should tackle this issue or will become a problem in near future.

There was a time when I complained about a one gig install being bloated. Time has indeed moved forward.

This is PC but still

I upgraded my SSD to a smaller but better one only to have the older one break

So I currently only have like 2 games installed when I used to have many MANY more….lets just say I’m glad OW is small

I don’t think hero mastery even have has many assets that take space. It is all just untextured cubes. The paid pve probably does though with its unique maps and enemy units.

First time? – genjin and zzz players

SSDs don’t really conform well to file compressions; especially those on Playstations that don’t use the NTFS. Plus, HD textures are really big.

Wait till they hear Elden Ring and its DLC is around 60 GBs total…

It’s like 50gb which isn’t big at all lmao, like that’s 1/4 of MWIII’s file size for example.

My PC has 5TB SSD and more than 60% is already used. Games nowadays are crazy huge.

Game dev here, there is absolutely no reason to have file sizes this balooned. IMO, every game should come with texture and audio download options.

actually a better option is only have heroes and skins the account has unlocked would be the better option. and for matches DL as needed. the only downside is slightly longer load times if it needs to pull a skin your account lacks but its definitely a culling on client side space. currently we have every hero+ every skin that comes with it, including audio, meshes, textures, shaders etc. even one offs that cant be obtained as well as redundant stuff like OW1 talon npcs even simple pallette swaps are duplicated entities to a degree

Much less, it’s like ~38-40GB.
For some reason console versions of games are always considerably bigger (I think it’s the language packs, but I’m not 100% sure, I just remember that being the reason for a different game)

50gb is not a lot for a full game, especially console games

i’ve seen a lot go upwards of 100gb

Is OW even a full game? It is as bare bone pvp shooter as it gets.

No bro. The other games aren’t small. That particular one is unnecessarily big and it got backlash for it. Also it is the same company making it.

its not industry , its certainly just storing movies in 4k for campaign or something.

good games in 4k shouldnt go past 30 gb.

you cant say ow has more stuff than cyberpunk at 61 gb .
