I was just looking at the battle.net launcher and on the home page there was banner that said “yeatle is live” that linked to his twitch stream. That alone i think is strange but even stranger is he is currently doing an hazard only unranked to gm challenge actually starting at unranked on a new account. He’s a top500 player in masters 5 lobbies and while writing this has 46 wins to 6 losses. Just straight up smurfing and its right on the home page of the launcher? I know the launcher just probably picks a random top streamer in the ow category automatically but its still strange i wonder if anyone else noticed.

Smurfing is defined as throwing to stay at or reach lower levels.
For example: a Bronze to GM account.
Blizzard has already stated alt accounts are not smurfs, and an unranked to GM account is fine.

If you’re on a new account in a rank range that’s significantly below what you usually play on (because the matchmaker doesn’t have enough data about you), that’s smurfing

So let me make sure I’m following:
A player has created a new account, and then goes on the play the game normally so that they can move up the ranks and try to reach top 500?
In other words, they’re not throwing, not sabotaging, just following the rules and winning? Nah that’s not against the terms of service lol
Unless the definition for some reason recently changed, this^ is the definition of smurfing… intentionally losing games to continuously lose rank and drop as low as you can, to continue stomping on lower ranked opponents.
In other words, you jump into a match, stomp on them up until the very end, and then just sit still and let them win. Kinda to show them “I could’ve won if I wanted to”, and then your rank drops lower and you do it all over again.

They all pretty much are. When you watch them play they are genuinely happy and that’s what matters really. Watching them play OW2 was like watching someone with a broken spirit.

I don’t hate OW by any means, but I hope the streamers who probably yearn for freedom from OW, enjoy their time with Rivals lol

I have a different theory though I’m sure Netgear has some stringent terms in NDA atleast they would have for launch week or two I guess were they are locked to playing rivals and not it’s rivals 
I would like to think so cause ow 6v6 seems oddly places at that mark.
Were ow streamers return to praise their beloved.
Cause otherwise it wouldn’t make sense from a business perspective to not even give a hour to hazzard.
Or I could be wrong and all our cc are chad gamers absolutely enjoying rivals that they don’t even want to look back at ow

I thought smurfing is when an experienced, skilled player starts a new account so they can stomp noobs and “pretend” they are a new player?

I’m curious where you found this definition. In all my years playing competitive multiplayer games, smurfs have always been simply players intentionally playing in lower ratings than their actual skill level is. The method they use to get to play in lower ranks isn’t part of smurfing.
Smurfing is smurfing. Throwing is throwing. They’re separate.
