In a post made by a user he criticized the monetization of OW2 and compared another F2P game beginning with a name sounding in the similar style of “Fort” and how their monetization are better and suggestions for improvement on OW2.
The points he was trying to say were something in the following:
He mentioned that this game in similar sound of “Fort” only needs a new season and without any drops on Twitch for players to watch it. Maybe this is a Blizzard game or not but I think you can figure that out. Even though a game can have a BP that only needs to be bought 1 time, a game can still be successful after multiple years and doing great while still be one of the most successful games. They can do this while at the same time the quality of cosmetics in the BP not being sacrificed because there will always be people who support the game with in-game shop purchases and that’s enough money.
These are some valid points and just because a game could copy the worse or worst F2P monetizations that exists doesn’t mean that they need to because it’s being normalized. It’s not the talented artists fault working on OW2 that cosmetics arguably are being as overpriced as they are and I do believe that many of them would be just happy if the cosmetics were more accessible for more people and not only those players that these high prices are targeted for. I don’t believe that all players who complain about these things do it because they are trying to be toxic. We are passionate about a game we love and want it to improve on stuff like monetization. I think there are a lot of players that would gladly be supporting the game if cosmetics were more accessible for everyone no matter if you only are willing to spend $10 once or hundredths of dollars on it.
If you want more players to play the game it’s not enough to ask your friends to play it. You need to make players keep interest in the game if you don’t want to lose them. When cosmetics and even heroes are locked behind grinding for 2 weeks or spending money, not everyone will like to play the game. If you care about maximizing the quality of queues while having lower queue times it could be good to making more F2P and low money spending players wanting to play the game. It will not only make people who spend money on the game even more happy but it will also keep the interest for them and even some players who are F2P ones maybe even will consider to spend some money on the game. The first things that could be done is to remove heroes from the BP because even a lot of those who spend money on it are not fan of it either. The other improvement could be to make the BP a one time purchase. That way players have the choice if they want to spend a lot of money or not and still be able to earn a lot of cosmetics every season.
Yes it’s probably the one you think about because it had a lot of likes and comments. It jokingly said something in similar of “Blizzard needs be nervous after seeing the new game season that dropped today”.
There are so many threads criticizing the monetization in the game. But if a thread is full of people just being flat out obnoxious, I can see why posts will get hidden.
A lot of people were talking about another game that’s F2P and the reason to why it’s monetization are better in the post which maybe could also be why it was removed but I’m unsure. Maybe the forum can only mention Blizzards own games and not compare to others.
Then it’s because he said a word synonyme to “poo”. He said something like “OW2 needs to be doodoo in their pants after the new Fort season dropped” in the title lol.
What do you mean by “make bp a one time purchase?” I agree with alot of the things you said, but mythic skins shouldn’t be locked behind a battle pass. It’s their best skin
The mythic skins are fantastic. I wouldn’t have any issue personally if they put them in the shop. Fortnite do themselves put skins in both the shop and in the BP that you can change styles on but I think this season Kiriko Mythic skin really looks extra detailed compared previous season ones that looks amazing too.
With the BP being a one time purchase I mean that the BP in the other game costs 950 coins and you get back 1500 coins back after you finish like the first 100 levels.
i wish it was better myelf but im afraid its sustaining at this point. the amount of punchman dooms, kirikos and genji skins i see ingame makes me think that they are making bank
so if they are making bank of course they wont change their model. the question is will it last? will people stop buying… that i dont have a clue about or what will happen
yeah I agree with you. The OPM collab were very successful from a monetization point since almost every game had people using the skins. I think they look great but they are way to expensive and I think they should be lowered much more in price. I also think the Kiriko skin should be priced a little lower since it re-uses assets like epic skins do. The Genji skin looks like a legendary but I think giving him a alternate hair style more similar to what someone posted on Reddit or perhaps Twitter it was would be great. The Doom skin couldn’t been better made and I think it looks rreally great. My favortite of the OPM collab are the Doom highlight intro and Doom voice line.
I haven’t called them out directly on it. But I do think that they approach could be better.
Its something they ignore which is a profitable method called
"The Las Vegas Effect".
(Essentially making a person NOT aware of just how much money they parted with).
This applies to Casinos and Lottery tickets.
Its removing the awareness of time and the margin of how much money you are willing to lose. Which is what casinos do BEST. If you make that “chance” cost little to nothing, and you make it cheep. People lose track of their wallet. Hence why PENNY SLOTS make more than quarter slots.
There are 574 Skins in OVERWATCH and they can potentially earn, with a new player. MONEY.
Right now, the Overwatch business model is. They WILL get some that break open their wallet and buy a 20 dollar skin, and those that steal their mum’s credit card to buy the skin.
But in reality they are MISSING the bigger picture, and thats how nickle and diming works.
The brain loses track of money being spent. if they are small amounts. So most folks don’t care if they keep feeding the “penny monster” at a casino. VS those that quickly become aware on the 1-5 dollar mega slots , that they have to stop and FAST.
So lets say They put ALL of those skins up for sale at 5 cents each or 25 cents each. I would think their sales would be MUCH BETTER.
Plus as players receive ACCOUNT bans and start new accounts, they can continue to operate the playing field that “well I can buy some skins back, not like I lost much” and do it ALL over again!
I have tried to explain this for months but I just get called a doomer for wanting access to skins I completely deserve to own/have. I should not have to drop $20+ on every new skin they add. Everyone I know quit this game the day it launched when they saw they couldn’t buy the battle pass once and get the currency back to endlessly fund them forever*. It wasn’t like one or 2 people, it was a good 60+ friends who immediately stopped almost the very next day or by the following Monday.
Nobody wants to play a game where you get nothing out of it. This game is the worst of it all in this regard. You get nothing out of it, and when you do play, you’re likely in some botched match because they’ve broken the matchmaker into a probably irreparable state. I also firmly believe the actual majority, hates these goofy restrictions with 5v5 and RQ and just wants Blizzard to admit that they screwed it up and undo it. The consequences of both of these things are affecting gameplay so negatively, why would anyone actually play the game?
Also again, it’s 2023. People do not play games simply for the gameplay alone anymore, nobody does this. If you are not getting something out of your time spent then it’s simply time wasted that you’re never going to get back. I want OW to be good, but it won’t be as long as the greed hungry fools keep running it into the ground, and the shills happily going along with this garbage are a serious problem. Stop dismissing concerns just because you’re fine with mediocre garbage.
*As an additional thing. The heroes being on the pass is the most unacceptable thing these fools pulled, ever. I have some friends who absolutely won’t touch this game again even if heroes were not sold on the pass anymore. They were promised free new heroes forever and breaking that promise for a pretend sequel that was simply a monetization change is in fact unacceptable. I do not blame anyone for never touching this game for this fact alone.
