Blaming DPS for losses when tanks determine most matches

Overwatch is nearly 6 years old but a substantial number of players still don’t know that DPS is the least influential role (by far) in terms of deciding how matches go. There is a reason why triple tank + triple support dominated for 6 months until the devs added role-lock to forcibly include 2 dps. Ttriple tank+support is still the best comp in open queue. It’s because tanks in Overwatch can basically replace DPS heroes in terms of damage output, while having massively better survivability, utility, ultimates, sustain, hard counter potential. The role names in Overwatch have always been misleading in that regard.

Not helping is the total lack of information when it comes to showing whether a tank or support is doing their job or not. You can easily throw matches as a tank or healer, and the team will still blame DPS for the loss. It’s actually hilarious. In a game that revolves around objectives, the devs decided to make 1 role completely dominant for pushing and defending objectives.

Covertly?

ITT : OP covertly complains about how they were blamed for a loss when playing DPS.

In before : I’VE NEVER PLAYED DPS ONCE IN MY LIFE ACKSHUALYYYYY.

Look, it’s cute that you think you’re above reproach just because you waited ten minutes for your match, but the DPS role can–and often does–decide the outcome of a match.

And no, tanks don’t “completely replace DPS,” Jesus, that’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard all day, and I spent most of this morning listening to my party’s ideas for DnD characters.

All roles can equally throw. Yes even dps. A tanks thats hitting w cant do anything without dps putting pressure on the enemy.

Same as a dps thats having a hard time getting a kill becuase the tank wont push foward.

It’s nice to be blissfully unaware that triple tank + triple support destroys any comp with DPS heroes with half the skill required.

MWAHAHAHAHAHA Ahahahahaha

No one ever suspects the half tilted tank

Yet another way the game favors tanks by not giving their team any information about how their tank is performing. You can just straight up refuse to bubble anyone as Zarya and nobody will blame you for it. Not even at the highest ranks. I envy tank mains for that.

So…

You have an opinion, and it’s a fact, because you say so. Good deal.

It’s not my opinion, it has been the developer’s whole design philosophy for many years. The entire reason role lock was introduced was to stop the 6-month long meta of 3 tanks + 3 supports (which is still the meta in open queue). The devs had to force both teams to have 2 DPS heroes on them. That ain’t an opinion sir, it’s fact.

Citation please and thank you.

Also, please explain to me why the top 100 accounts since the games release feature Tracer? And when not Tracer, Genji. That’s for the last 6 years, to include the 9 months of GOATS META.

Oh, so you’re still mad about GOATS?

So let me explain this to you.
Just because a hero can benefit from a cheesy synergy does not mean that hero is equally strong in every other team composition. And it is currently impossible for any tank or support to be used in GOATS outside of Arcade.

It speaks volumes about how tanks and supports have so much damage output and sustain that they can literally make DPS heroes irrelevant in this game. GOATS is still the strongest comp in open queue by the way. The moment you remove role-lock, DPS becomes redundant again and tanks + supports decide everything. The balancing still favors tanks and supports, and always has.

They’re fun to play. It’s not rocket science.

Haven’t you heard that DPS players are just morally and genetically superior to Tank and Support players? Of course Tracer doesn’t have any sort of competitive advantage that might let her carry more matches and secure a higher rank than any other hero.
It’s just that the Top 500 is populated by divine beings with superhuman gaming skills who would be T500 on any hero, because they’re just that good, but they just coincidentally all happen to prefer OP’s preferred hero, by coincidence.

Would say supports do determine the outcome of matches these days with Tanks being second. Without the right/decent support comp you kinda done for. Especially if the enemy support is Brig/zen and yours is Moira/Mercy.

Your plat games, probably, but that is just because how bad are those who play tanks and supports in metals. Also, smurfs like these ranks for the same reason.

Ignorance is bliss ofcourse when you spout things when you dont understand them.

3 tanks is better not cause they dps, but cause the combined defensive abilities like shield bubble dm, can be massively cycled through without taking much damage, combine that with mass healing of 3 supports this is why goats happened not cause dps lacked offensive power compared to tanks.

-2-2-2 solves this so it doesnt apply here.

I can sympathise with you on passive tanks, it happens just like bad supports or dps.

you just have to work with what you get forget the passive tank work with others. tell the mercy to pocket you or ana to nano you and get those elims.

yesterday in lijang i had to get like 3ks before my shield bot rein would step into the point, we lost a whole round cause of that we still won cause we didnt tilt.

Often dont categorise them as tanks bad, mostly its just one of the tanks being passive, and other mostly the off tank is waiting for the main tank to push or the off tank is flanking and the main tank doesnt have the resources to do the tank battle.

In those cases see how you can enable the good tank you got.

It often works.Tell the off tank to go agro and that you will go in with them or enable the main tank etc.
or as dps just frag their ana and watch them suffer with lucio heals etc.

Its one thing to blame a particular player, but when you start blaming and stereotyping roles, your only affecting yourself going in to every match with bias and throw up your hands at the slightest sign of trouble, you close yourself to possibilities when you start having prejudiced bias against roles or heroes.

how to play dps…shoot tank…there is no step 2

Even if true, play tank or support? No one is forcing you to play dps

When I am forced to switch as tank, most of the time it’s because of dps on the enemy team, not because of tank or support. But yeah, keep whining about how tanks are op

I just got out of a match where the tanks were spamming for healing when they refused to push. I accidentally found myself alone in their spawn not realizing our tanks went back to cart to stand there and complain about healing. Rofl.

The quality of tank players is so low, support is the easiest role in the game.

Games are usually a tank diff. 5v5 will fix this game. Less throwing tanks, one less person to carry.
