Hey guys.
After Retribution and Blackwatch being revealed, why every arrow was pointed to Overwatch and resulting in its disbanding? I mean we know Blackwatch was connected to Overwatch but how could the public figure that out?
Because Reyes was a known member of Overwatch, and seeing him with Blackwatch gave them the connection to Overwatch.
But it may be that Reyes was cooperating with another cooperation. Overwatch isn’t the only option!
Because Reyes was publicly known as one of the founding members of Overwatch and its second in command. Plus all over Venice was dead Talon soldiers and so far only Overwatch has been seen going after Talon
One thing that confuses me is that, Talon was responsible for the attack and that was the reason Reyes thought killing Antonio is the best choice cause nothing could prove Antonio was guilty, why would this lead to Overwatch’s disbandment? I mean Hello people there’s Talon setting traps, killing people and destroying a whole base. They are the ones who must be destroyed not Overwatch !
Unchecked power is worrying, and the fact that Blackwatch had been hidden meant that people were even more scared. Black ops are the modern boogey man.
And for someone like Moira to join the organization, even if it was branch op and under the radar, there gonna point fingers at Jack and everything.
Why is that? I’ve heard Moira wasn’t part of anything not even Overwatch.
She was Blackwatch. Reyes hired her because of some genetic questions he had. (it was said in Blizzcon 2017 panel I think?)
The common misconception is that she was fired from Overwatch, and then joined Blackwatch. But that is not confirmed anywhere (like the “Mercy resurrected Reaper” misconception that existed a long time ago)
Her lab was shut down by Overwatch. But that doesn’t mean she worked for them when that happened. Overwatch is a worldwide taskforce created to ensure peace. And if her work was not ethical and could be dangerous for the sake of humanity, then yeah, her work had to be stopped.
The Venice incident alone wasn’t the reason Overwatch was disbanded. But was one of a series of Events that lead to it’s downfall.
In the recent Storm Rising event, Overwatch is still operational but was under scrutiny. The dialogue between story characters did say the strike team would be decommissioned but that usually means a closing of a department and not Overwatch as a whole. Sort of like a company trying to save face but still trying to exist.
Example:
Disney
Yeah, the recent Darth Vader comic didn’t resonate with certain fans. So we are closing down the comic department relating to the Star Wars franchise. We will continue with the movie franchise and take feedback to better the direction we take in the future.
“Overwatch was among those who condemned her research, and in O’Deorain’s own words, tried to silence her. She received a lifeline in an offer from an unlikely source: Overwatch’s covert ops division, She was personally recruited by Blackwatch’s commander, [Gabriel Reyes], who wanted someone who could help advise him on matters pertaining to genetics.”
I found this on overwatch wiki. Another question that arises here is that, Moira was condemned by overwatch. Blackwatch is a part of Overwatch. Then how was she recruited by Reyes to Blackwatch?
Blackwatch has a history of hiring people from groups condemned by Overwatch - see McCree (recruited after Overwatch busted the Deadlock Gang in a sting operation) and Genji (recruited to be used as a weapon against the Shimada clan).
Or you can check her biography directly (be careful with wikis! They are not all reliable)
(I didn’t want to quote everything in my last post so ^^)
I’m not sure about Genji. Check this out:
“Hanzo believed that he had killed his brother, but Genji was rescued by [Overwatch] and the intervention of [Dr. Angela Ziegler]. The global security force saw Genji as a potential asset in its ongoing operations to combat the Shimada clan. As Genji’s injuries left him clinging to life, Overwatch offered to rebuild his body in exchange for his help.”
So Genji was recruited by Overwatch and then he joins the Spec Ops division Blackwatch unlike Moira who was never part of Overwatch and she had conflicts with Overwatch.
My point was that Genji was a member of a group that Overwatch was trying to dismantle - the Shimada clan. Similarly, Moira was taken down by Overwatch, then subsequently taken in by Blackwatch.
I hear what you are saying, but Genji didn’t took any parts in Shimada clan, the reason Hanzo supposedly killed him. Overwatch was against the Shimada clan not Genji, but Overwatch was straightly against Moira and even tried to silence her.
Genji was still a member of the Shimada clan, even if he wanted no part of it. Guilt by association.
" A snag was reached when [Hanzo Shimada] was expected to replace his deceased father, [Sojiro]. Upon his father’s death, the clan elders instructed Hanzo to straighten out his wayward younger brother, [Genji Shimada], so that he, too, might help rule the Shimada empire. When his brother refused, Hanzo was forced to kill him."
Refusing to rule the clan means he doesn’t want any part of it. He was just a member of the clan through family roots not that he wanted to be a member of. Being born in Shimada doesn’t necessarily make one guilty.
