Best Way To Deal With Torbjorn’s Obnoxious Turret In Gold

“Git gud and shoot the turret with Widowmaker”. Fine, this solution is viable in some cases; in others, it is much more complicated.

What’s the fastest, best way to get rid of that turret and the gnome at the same time? Let’s say we are talking about a map like Hollywood, in the first capture point. It is always a PITA when you are attacking and a Torb puts the turret in that small elevator-thing behind the point. A sniper may be the best solution to counter Torb in certain maps, but not this one.

Not to mention when the turret is behind a shield. Maybe Pharah is the best response to this (breaking the shield and the turret at the same time), but it is tricky.

Gold?

Block it with a mei wall.

Play in a way that makes the turret ineffective. Its a static, AI controlled gun. Each role has a different way of dealing with this.

  • Damage: Literally just kill it. As you mentioned, Widowmaker can shoot it. Others are: Pharah, Hanzo, McCree, Soldier: 76, and probably some others.
  • Support: Utilize long range Supports (Ana mainly, Zenyatta can work too though and maybe Baptiste but I have little experience on him) to support your team from outside its LoS, and maybe even sneak damage into it when you don't need to heal. Its not burst damage so its fairly easy to heal though, and so as long as its not hurting you (and again its static) you should be good.
  • Tank: Shields lol. But also pathing. You can guide your team around a certain route that reduces the turrets effectiveness. Like with your Hollywood example, you could just tell your team to go left and around the building, where you'd find yourself basicallys at the turrent where your team could collectively kill it, and then you go on to capture the point as normal.

Well usually the real problem is your team have no tanks.
Lots of tanks together can just walk up to both of them and erase them

If you want to hard counter that little fella try orisa or hammond.
Orisa can delete the turret without being hit by torb.
Hammond has enought time to rush, shield, attack and scape.
Also any mid range can outdamage the turret, if torb is protecting it go for him first and force a retirement.

Hanzo.
If theres a shield orisa & bastion (shield is more important.) as any long range dmg gets it.

Bastion just shredds through the shield the fastest. (and bastion in gold is quite good)

If you have a good flanker, let them spawn camp torb if he died once, to stop the turrer setup.
Makes sense when you know you lose the fight but killed torb.

I usually go tracer and prio: turret, torb, support.
But torb is a soft counter so you better be a smurf or really confident. In gold torbs like to repair the turret, so sometimes you stick him/turret and get both.
(climbed through gold, so I was an example of confident)
Hint for tracer vs turret: full mag + meele then you got it down. If he isn’t hammering on it xD.

Sombra

Where it gets tricky is when they have a bastion also.

Then your team needs to decide which is more of a priority… Bastion, or Torb.

Sombra can’t counter both at the same time, it’s one of the other.

Hanzo is not a counter if he can’t get line of sight. At long range he can, but it depends on torb and bastion placement.

Sombra can always get line of sight regardless of the situation. But again… it’s one or the other, the team needs to focus on the other while you take down the priority target.

Hanzo works really well, since Storm Arrow deletes it pretty quickly.

Roadhog too since his shooting the turret in that “sweetspot” range is rather easy since it doesn’t move, and Hog doesn’t have to worry about taking damage from it too much.

If you can manage to stay outside of it’s range, Genji’s primary fire is surprisingly effective too, since he doesn’t have any fall off.

Hog cannot counter bastion if he can’t get line of sight.

Again, Sombra can always get line of sight.

I was referring to Torb’s turret, which is what was asked? And Sombra is hardly the best to deal with it either since even at close range it take her far longer to destroy than it does plenty of other heroes because of her low DPS.

In general, running Sombra into Torbjorn is pretty dangerous since she has to spend what up time she has focusing on the turret first and foremost because of it’s lock on aim, effectively wasting valuable time she needs to set up plays with her hack, and Torby himself can very easily out duel her himself thanks to his alt fire and bulkiness earned from Overload.

I play a ton of Hammond. Often time the turret is alone in the back and it’s super easy for me to get to it and just melt it.

If Torb’s babysitting it I’ll knock him away first or just kill him before the turret. It barely tickles Hammond.

Orisa… Shield up, bullets in. Pew pew

Then you don’t know how to play Sombra.

I literally spend entire games doing nothing but killing torb turrets until he switches off. It’s funny cuz torbs get mad at me for it, to the point they’ll hunt me down and solo ult me lol

Sombra flat out is the best turret counter in the game. Because she can get to places no one else can.

Most Gold players get there on sheer mechanics, and nothing else - to be honest, Gold players should be able to counter turrets easily.

If the turret is not shielded, any long range damage hero should be able to take it out pretty quickly.

With a shield, walling off the turret with Mei is definitely a solid choice.

Symmetra is a nice option to teleport your team to a more advantageous position. This requires more teamwork though and chances of that happening in gold are quite low.

Pharah is another great choice.

Lol I know how to play Sombra. You sure you aren’t just playing against terrible Torbs? Any half decent one would just ambush you while you’re trying to destroy the turret.

This or a barrier tank will render it pretty useless.

Hanzo and Junkrat have always been good at killing it, too.

Well considering I’m a 420 hour one trick Sombra Main.

And you call diamond+ torbs bad torbs, then yes I guess I yield to your inexperience of knowing what Sombra is not good at.

Scott stop trying to blow smoke up people’s wazoo. If you played Sombra as a main then you would know why what you are saying about her is the farthest thing from the truth.

Which is flat out inexperience, because You simply do not know how to play Sombra.

Pharah has height, range, and power to deal with Torb Turret, just poke at it so it doesn’t kill you.

Stationary targets are ez mode

If you’re going to claim rank, would you mind presenting proof then? And I play around the same rank as you then on both of my accounts.

I’m not trying to “blow” anything, but rather am explaining what I’ve personally come to learn from both sides of that match up.
