I’ve defended against pirate ship comps several times now and there seems to be a bit more luck rather than a set strategy to defend the pirate ship. So who are some good hero picks to more consistently break the pirate ship or positioning and engaging strategies?
Orisa/hog tanks with zen/mercy support, and 2 high damage burst dps. Tracers pulse no longer instakills turret bastion. Hanzo/pharah can work well or a widow is good too. Remember if you push them off the payload at any point it’ll be hard for them to set back up.
Zen/Ana both strong due to anti and discord. Genji/tracer are still decent against Bastion but nothing like they used to be due to nerfs and Bridgette. Honestly best counter is double shield, bastion, Junk/Hog, Zen/Mercy/Brig/Moira.
Depending on the map, Junkrat makes a good counter if you can find the angles to get behind the shield. All it really takes it enough time to build up that tired and then kaboom. Just have to be strategic about when you use the tire so you can make sure it lands.
It’s a really hard comp to stop without a coordinated team, but have seen a few strats that work well in my games.
You can use junkrat and/or a pharah to bust the shields or drop behind him from an angle he can’t see you and burst him down. Problem with the last one, is that the enemy mercy will most certaintly rezz him immediately if noone else follows up on your team.
You can use your own bastion double shield + more spam burst damage for the ultimate shield battle. Mercy to boost your bastion damage.
You can also use Mei to block bastion’s sight of fire or isolate him and allow your heroes to get on top of the bastion and wreck him. Usually good with heroes like Reinhardt and brigitte or reaper,roadhog that need to close the distance gap before engaging.
Once you push them off the payload, it’s much easier to defend against and you should make sure they don’t regain control of it.
Generally speaking, if you can break the shields quickly or kill the supports, Pirate Ship goes down.
A good sniper to pick off the supports behind the payload.
Orisa can remove Bastion from the payload.
Reinhart, Moira and Symmetra can shoot through the shields.
Junkrat and Bastion can kill shields quickly.
Hanzo, zenyatta, mercy…
Junkrat and Hanzo. Both are able to put out a ton of damage with quick ttk attacks. Their ults are also able to clear the point. Once the pirate ship is dismantled it can be hard to reset it up.
You can ice wall them out of position as Mei and have them focused down. Coordination required, as with most of these replies.
I find hiding and letting them past then ambushing works well
