Tracer. I would put Tracer as number one on this. In my opinion, Tracer is by far one of the best designed hero in this game. She has tons of mobility, fast paced and has one of the highest skill ceiling in the game. I used to spend countless hours on a custom game called 1v1 Tracer Lijiang Tower. Her mechanics are so interesting that I feel like it could be incorporated into a future arena FPS game if there ever is one.
Ana. Doing clutch heals with good aim just feels so rewarding. Not to mention the clutch nano boost that saves your teammate that otherwise wouldâve died, only for them to turn around and start dominating. Landing clutch sleep dart is also fun.
Baptiste. I like how pros are able to so much value out of him by constantly shooting and healing and thereâs barely any downtime with bap. There is so much APM potential with bap itâs crazy. Sadly, his gun feels less effective now in mid to long range which makes him have more downtime in long-range maps. Since shooting enemies beyond 30m is pointless.
Mercy. Although she doesnât have as much solo carry potential, her way of healing is actually more fun than most people give credit for. I used to enjoy using her when I first started playing Overwatch. I only stopped using her when I realised how unimpactful mercy was in ranked. But her style of gameplay is nonetheless enjoyable.
Sigma. Being able to constantly change the positioning of his shield makes Sigma very fun to play. Having to time when to use kinetic grasp to get the maximum value is also quite fun. His primarily fire, rock and ultimate are meh though.
Sombra. Youâre always doing something as Sombra whether itâs scouting for imformation while being stealthed, hacking health packs or hacking the enemy at the right time to get value. And translocator gives her the ability to teleport to either be aggressive or defensive.
Zarya, or Zaryaâs bubble (projected barrier) specifically. It feels so rewarding to use when youâre able to save your teammates that was almost about to die.
Symmetra, or her teleporter to be more specific. Her teleporter allows for interesting plays that wouldnât be possible otherwise. Like the team pushing in as group past the choke point. Or even allowing your bastion to teleport to the top of statue and catching your enemies off-guard

Lucio, Winston, and Soldier IMO. Easy to pick up with lots of potential to grow, and with little/no annoying mechanics.

Genji. Its nano people hate not blade.
Hear me out: Moira.
Aside from how she compares to other support, Moiraâs actual design, abilities and gameplay all have a distinct personality (duality/give and take), she is the embodiment of her own political view that you cannot have good (or âprogressâ) without harm of some sort. Even her androgynous look is a nod to this theme.

For all the crap that Hammond gets, heâs a skill-intensive tank that manages to be versatile and powerful without having to rely on barriers or instant KO combos or even particularly high DPS. I canât even play Hammond worth a damn, but I respect that they were aiming for a different playstyle from the conventional shield tank and managed to make it work.

Dva because I can call mech kill you and spam lol 6 times
imo Roadhog is well designed (not best)
Systematic ( playstyle revolves around his hook)
Easy to play
High impact as a tank
DPS/Tank hybrid
Fun

anything that isnât straight up pew pew with a special kind of grenade.
s76, asche, widow, junk, phar, and probably sojourn are your quintessential arena shooter heroes. their designs work as pure dps but they certainly donât feel unique to overwatch. stuff like doomfist, tracer, genji, sym, sombra, mei, most builders, most tanks, most supports, all feel unique to the game or staples of the genre.
i like hero designs that scale with decision making. since OW will never be super deep turn-based chess, that mostly implies correct choices/actions per sec. not too spammy, but on cd enough that ppl who work/think/act fast will do better than those who donât. I like hero kits that offer some trickshots and creativity in how they synergize and scale, so that their risk/reward/value isnât linear. I also like hero kits that differentiate with aim breakpoints, yes i think aim/fps skills should be the tie-breaker for dps mirrors whereas apm and decision making might be the tie-breaker for non dps roles.
But the eyes of the victims donât pop out and their corpses arenât flattened into pancakes, 0/10.
To be fair I think that most of the heroes are well designed.
Just a few of them are problematic imho.

Sigma is so unbelievably fun to me. No footsteps so he can be a funny flanker, his abilities tie well into his character and backstory, and throwing rocks at people is the best ability in the game just by being funny imo.
Especially rocking Genji out of the air when he dashes for blade. Feels good man

Doomfist. Perfectly designed kit with no flaws and is devilishly handsome. Best hero

Lucio is the best designed character in the game. Itâs rare to hear any complaints about him, and if anyone does have any complaints, no they donât because heâs perfect in every way.
Hammond, Doomfist, Mei, Roadhog, Junkrat, Pharah, Bastion all have designs that range from bad to legit horrible.
Everyone else is mostly fine, with unique heroes like Lucio, D.VA, etc. deserving a small bonus.

Lucio, winston, dva, tracer and ana are the best overall designs imo. Even when ana is op which she often is cus bio nade, I dont feel like âah damn this hero is so annoyingâ, idk if ive ever felt that even.
The rest are pretty fun, tracer being hardest one to deal with. Lucio can get annoying when ur a main tank lol
Tracer, Genji, Ana, D.Va, Baptiste, Sigma
Specialist heroes are good on paper but generalist heroes are better/more fun to play imo.
