The best decision I ever made during my Overwatch Career was turning off VC. Period.
Many of the users on the forum complain often about the rampant toxicity problem in-game through Voice Chat and the general chat. Well, there’s a built-in solution for you. Turn off the voice chat.
Ever since I turned off VC, I began to climb for the first time in months. I went from low gold all the way to Diamond within the span of a few months. Is leaving VC the only reason? Of course not. But did it help? Absolutely.
Playing the game without worrying about how my teammates will react to my gameplay has been a godsend for both my gameplay and my mental health. Losses feel less bad, and victories feel more earned. While you may miss out on coordination opportunities, the reality is that it’s simply a better experience not having to play worrying about the judgement of others.
I hope you take this into consideration when you experience toxicity through voice chat, it DOES help and IMO the positives outweigh the negatives.
I have the honor to be your favorite forum user,

I only listen to eurobeat in my car.
Not a option for me unfortunately. Two of my main heroes are Zenyatta and Sombra, both rely on callouts.
Whenever someone complains about Sombra, i always reply that they lose the right to complain about her if they’re not on comms. I don’t even have to check the player screen because they pretty much never are.
EU Comms are surprisingly friendly and fun

a lot of languages and accents and people from the Middle East with bad connections
One of the few games where it’s better to just find a group to play with and only chat with them/turn off in game chat for randos. There are those matches that have genuinely good people trying to coordinate but they’re so far and few it’s not worth it.

Technically, instead of turning off voice comms, you could individually mute everybody on your team.
The difference being they can hear you.

What servers do you play on? On eu theres a person with a mic once every 15 games.

i better get on the eu servers then
Been advocating this for years but most people are pretty stubborn to try different ways to play. Here are some truths about VC:
1: Most chatter in VC is useless. Occasionally there is a useful call out which can be beneficial, but far more common VC has detrimental effects and the downsides far outweigh the upsides.
2: VC masks the built in audio cues. Is there someone on the left/right/flank? 9/10 you’d hear them just by keeping an open ear. You won’t be able to if someone is talking on VC.
3: Teammates who think they know how to play the game better than you do. You play Junkrat. They don’t want Junkrat. You play Mercy. They don’t want Mercy. Because you’re a good teammate, you switch to whatever character they want. Except you aren’t as good on that character, you just hurt your chances of winning. You know what you play. You decide what’s best for the situation. Staying out of VC helps you keep your mind clear to make better decisions.
4: Toxicity will tilt you and make you play worse. You cannot mute after the fact and have your play unaffected. It is already affected because you were in VC to begin with.
5: Staying out of VC encourages use of the built in communication commands, which are versatile enough to get any information you need across. Ironically this actually helps people who are in voice because it’s one less thing that’s crowding the VC.
Staying out of VC won’t make you drop rank. It might make you climb a little for making better decisions. But mostly it will increase your enjoyment of the game.

You just don’t need it up through Diamond, I’m sorry, but fact. Sombra is a notable exception, but most of the other’s nah.

If I was trying to climb, maybe, but I don’t care… I am farming gold guns.
A pox on thee and thy pimped out ways
They need to remove them from the game, they are the wrong incentive for Comp.

You don’t need it up through GM either. You also don’t need it on Sombra, or any hero for that matter. When you get to OWL, I guess that’s when you will start needing it.
