Best and Worst Mains in Each Role

So from your experience which heros in each role represents the most positive and the most toxic type of mains in those respective categories?

For me its this:

Tank:
Most Positive-Reinhardts
I will never forget my friend Did back from OW1 days. He was almost a complete otp on Rein and he was such a positive light on the game. He’d always put his energy into not only being a good teammate, but a good opponent too. He’d often forego saying “GG” as he identified that it could trigger people. Which gave him his catchphrase of “Valient Fight!”, which was all too befitting for his character and his personality. I’ll never forget you Dod, my buddy.

Most Toxic-Roadhogs
Now I don’t remember their names, but I’ve experience too many of them who end up being smug. Back in my OW1 days they were the tanks that often most likely typed in “Gitgud” before the chat was heavily moderated. This was during the dark tikes when Roadhog had his one shot hook combo that could akso PHASE THROUGH WALLS. It was pretty insane as these guys relished watching teams fall apart which only served to strike their own ego to further heighfs. I never did learn to counter Hogs properly before they nerfed him into the ground and I never regret missing out on the Hog meta from season 1 and 2. As a dive specialist I especially hate them now as Hogs are picked mainly to just prevent me from playing my favorite tanks.

DPS:
Most Positive-Torbjorns
I can’t fault the little guys. They try and try and try, and even if I disagree with how they play hey are always trying their hardest. It’s also kinda fun watching them go do their own thing. Like for my experience, Torbjorn was my very first hero to main, I’ve been there before and after his rework. From handing out armor packs to suddenly getting a tantrum effect, I’ve done it all, so its amusing to watch a dwarf take their own journeys in a match.

Most Toxic-Widowmakers
Omg…do I need to say it? These guys ignore kost of their kit just to be able to play with a sniepr rifle. They handle themselves poorly and put aim above all other skills, which has netted me more Widow heads then I can ever keep track off. It still doesn’t help how a good widow will just utterly ruin a match by denying any counterplay with back to back headshots. Then where you meet bad ones they only ever end up feeding and throwing a match for their respective teams. It never feels good having a Widow on my team ever and even worse against. These are the types of mains that use the excuse “It’s just QP” and constantly treat every other player as a target sign. They have been the msot stubborn mains I have ever come across thinking that they’ll improve by tossing themselves into the fire. News flash! That’s not how you practice! If an MMA fighter fought and fought til he broke his body, he would retire sooner rather than later as it would wear down their bodies. In the same anaology as a fighter, fighters spend more time OUTSIDE OF THE RING practicing the real basics outside of a match and only then test their true skills from all those houes practicing against a worthy opponent. How come Widows never do this? Pros and top500 do this everyday! They warm up and get their brains going so they never get rusty, plus they actually use their entire kits and practice other mechanics, not just aim! These treat everyone as mere objects to shoot at. We are not your target dummies!

Support:
Most Positive-Illaris:
She’s rather new and niche currently, but I barely have ever experience an Illari complain compared to other support heros. Usually when a support gets toxic they’re the first ones to state “My team sucks.” I have never gotten this from any Illari ever. Maybe because its the pylon doing most of her healing? Either way Illaris just do their thing and enjoy themselves moreso then other support mains. I can’t be angry at them for playing their hero even when they get angry. They did get a hefty nerf lately.

Most Toxic-Mercys
Jesus…the amount of times I’ve met a Mercy who just denied my healing just because they disagreed with my pick and or playstyle is appalling. I have met more toxic Mercys then any other toxic support mains out there. They bark at players on their team against their opponents and have the easiest time trolling to throw a game by denying singular players any healing or rezzes at all. Had a few even confess to playing Mercy specifically because “Easy wins.” As they told us in match chat. The amount of toxic Mercys I have met have been far more common than any Lifeweaver trolls or the common angry support ranting about their teammates. Even if the enemy Mercy wins against me I get a lot of “Nya nya na nya nyaaaa!” From then just thanks to the GA crutch. If you wanted to know why I hate Mercys, its because of this.

So what’s some of your stories? Who do you think is the best mains and worst mains?

To be honest i find Reaper mains the most toxic in the DPS role. They are the edgelord version of the Hog mains.

For Support mains as much as i hate her, the Ana mains are the most positive, no contest.

And as honorable mentions, Lúcio and Zen mains are very positive as well. They are the most chill from all the heroes mains.

The most positive tank teammates are definitely Reinhardt; however, they also tend to be the most toxic as well. That duality persists across the DPS role with Genji and the support role with Mercy. She can be your angle or your devil. I am not sure what about these characters attracts extremists that are the best people you will ever meet or a piece of garbage that needs to be incinerated. The only common factor is that none of them belong in a first person shooter. :skull:

I have to admit that I love toxic Mercy players, though. :biting_lip:

Tank:
Winton players are always very funny for some reason. The funny space gorilla just inherently attracts all the chill and fun players ig. Most of the time when I come across a Winton player, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be a good time.
(Honorable mention to WB players. I don’t meet very many of them, but there’s a few that I’ve been bumping into pretty regularly, and istg they’re the most patient people I’ve ever seen. Every time I see them they get counter picked like crazy by the enemy team, but they manage to always remain positive and chill, and it’s honestly kind of funny cause I believe that Hammond, the character itself, would not be quite so chill in situations like that and would instead be swearing up a storm.)

Damage:
Honestly, none of the dps heroes stand out to me as having more positive players than others. In my experience, dps players, regardless of their hero, tend to just be quiet and get their job done, which I can definitely respect.

Support:
Mercy mains tend to be the most positive and friendly players in my lobbies. I don’t remember ever having a bad experience with a Mercy player tbh.
(Honorable mention to Moira players, who are, in stark contrast to the character itself, very nice and friendly most of the time.)

Only thing id say in my experience is that gejos tend to be the on the spicy side when things dont go their way, and id say the most chill supports i tend to cross are lucios.

Ah so we’re getting the jokes out of the way early.

This is a classic case of projecting the heroes personality onto the player. I’ve encountered as many toxic Lucios and Zens as people who play any other hero. The truth is there is no correlation between a hero someone mains and their personality.

Funny you say that. I was harassed verbally in voice chat during quickplay back in OW1. And guess what the hero that DPS player was playing? Yep, reaper haha. Man that guy was so toxic to me for no reason. I had to mute him because there was something wrong with his behaviour.

Oh and another time in comp, our reaper (different guy) got really mad at me for not nano boosting his death blossom. But this was more funny than toxic because he wasn’t insulting me or anything, he was just really mad that he didn’t receive the nano.

I think that most tanks at this point are too depressed to be positive at all. However, I have seen some Chad Reins in my lifetime that I will never forget. But a number of toxic Reins as well. Honestly a mixed bag for them.

I’ve seen a fair share of wholesome Torbs. They always seem to be one of the most eager to pop out an emote in the downtime between team fights. I love and hate those little guys.

Now, I’m not saying all Sombras are toxic, but I remember one time we had an actual little kid on our team who played Sombra. The guy would scream in chat like a little baby and after we lost the game because of him, he said gg ez, not realizing we lost somehow xD.

Going by my own experiences,

Tank: Hog mains have been pretty chill, imo. They don’t ask much from their team, they just true vibin’. Hog players however are a different story. They are often just tanks/Reins that want more healing and dps that want faster ques. The players are an issue, not the mains.

DPS: Ask me this 2 years ago and my answer would have been very different. But currently, Genji mains are really chill. I think they got humbled after all his nerfs, gave up on being the next OWL pro, and realized they just simply want to play as cyborg ninja. Enjoying life’s simple pleasures.

Support: I think Bap mains are consistently good but rarely super memorable. But Mercy mains thrive on making good connections to gauge on who to pocket. Mercy mains got some real rotten eggs sometimes, but overall their kindness and sociability more than makes up for it.

Outside of the odd case of the psycho QP Zen that charges in ahead of the group or whatever, I love having a Zen on side. They get the job done and they don’t tend to whine about blue team, in my experience. It also means that it doesn’t matter if we have a healbot as the other support or not; Zen covers for that.

The type of support player I dislike is the one that exclusively healbots and then complains that we’re not doing enough damage. If they want to healbot because that’s fun then cool, keep doing that. But if they want to win and they identify a problem (namely tank and/or DPS can’t net kills) and they refuse to help out by contributing damage, then for all our sakes I wish they’d keep their grievences to themselves. All they accomplish by dropping nasties in blue chat is tilting the team and making us lose even harder.

I might be biased, but I think Tracer has the nicest mains in the DPS role. We’re having the most fun with our movement and damage, AND we get to listen to a British accent for our entire game.

I’ve never seen a mean Tracer main. On the other hand, every Tracer main has at least a little bit of an ego, which definitely does show sometimes.

I have never seen this. Most reinhardt as crybabies that roleplay as chads, but act like holier than thou chuds.

Honestly the best tank mains I have seen player wise were Dvas

There is another… Doomfist mains man…

for DPs the most positive I have seen are either othe r symmetras, or reapers (New racist meme is actually barely there). You can always sense the depression though. Character keeps getting gutted

Most toxic: Soldiers

Support
Most Positive: PROBABLY Mercy or Lifeweavers. They really seem to mean the ebst for me

Most toxic: Zenyattas. God I hate zenyatta players they are all the antithesis of the ehro they play.

Mercy is like jekyll and hyde. Really nice in the beginning, then instantly snaps into the most passive aggressive person that berates you over the smallest thing.

But mercy mains kind of get a lot of s##t, so I’m not surprised over the fractured personas.

NGL I dont think Mercy players are like that. Its just that OW players have a massive “Ugly guy rejecting you” complex and its 5000 times worse when the ugly guy (unskilled hero) criticizes you

Same happens to me. I can suggest the same things as symm or as tracer popping off… Guess when they listen to me more. (its when I play tracer)

Rein is def most positive, then maybe Meis (don’t @ me) and Zens/Lucios?

I haven’t played enough of this new game to see if it’s effected, but in my games that’s what I’ve noticed from OW1.

Also, I apologize about the Mercy encounters.

Idk where the rein positive meme came from? Did they really gaslight us into believing them? Reality is so different

It’s almost like Mercy has one of the shortest ranges of any healing ability in the game.

If you put yourself in bad positions, she’s probably not going to risk herself, and the rest of the team, for you.

This comment in this thread amuses me greatly.
