Bastion Rework Overwatch 2

Hi, I want to ask if you are alright with borrowing ideas and concepts from the community. This rework is a great idea, and at the very least, a response would be appreciated.

The astrobiologist bastion rework

I am typing this down, word for word. I will give my opinion after. No, this is not my concept. It is from a very underrated youtuber.

General changes

Tank barrel is now golden when the golden weapon is equipped.

Health pool changed from 200 hp 100 armor to 100 hp 200 armor.

Changes to ironclad

Passive damage resistance removed.

Bastion’s health pool goes from 100 hp 200 armor to 50 hp 250 armor while in sentry and Tank( takes effect as soon as transformation begins.)

Allows bastion to see silhouettes of enemies through allies in all forms.

Changes to configuration recon

Recon clip size increased from 35 to 36.

Recon now fires in 3 round bursts at a rate of 8 rounds per second.

Damage per round increased from 20 to 22.

Damage falloff range increased from 26-50 meters to 30-55 meters.

Bastion while in Recon can see enemies as an outline through walls for 1.5 seconds after leaving bastion’s line of sight( also visible to teammates.)

Changes to reconfigure and configuration sentry

Spread begins with a 0.5 degree spread, blooms to a 3 degree spread over 5 seconds.

Spread takes 2 seconds to fully reset from maximum spread.

Can now deal 2x crits.

Deals 1.25 times damage to barriers.

Damage per round decreased from 15 to 12.

Now has an infinite clip size.

Firing builds up heat indicated by a ui meter and percentage at a rate of 8.33% per second.

Heat dissipates at a rate of 33.3% per second after bastion stops Firing or goes into another configuration.

If heat reaches 100%, bastion goes into a 5 second venting animation where he is unable to shoot or reconfigure.

Reload button now manually vents the heat at a rate of 50% per second until heat reaches 0% but leaves bastion unable to shoot or reconfigure for the duration.

Changes to configuration tank

Now bastion’s e ability.

Damage per round decreased from 205 to 125 with a direct hit.

Splash damage: 54-22 over 5 meters, buffed from 4 meters.

Now has a maximum ammo capacity of 4.

Does not reload, recharges instead.

Recharges at a rate of 1 round per 3 seconds.

Rate of fire increased from 1 round per 1.11 seconds to 1 round per second.

Tread sfx volume decreased by 30%.

Transformation time decreased from 1.5 seconds to 1 second.

Reversion time decreased from 1 second to 0.5 seconds.

No cool downs.

No headshots.

Self damage; 24-16 before armor.

Movement speed increased by 9.1%.

Can be animation canceled for 0.25 seconds of healing by altering between fire and heal at the proper time.

Knock back decreased by 33%.

Self knock back increased by 25%.

Can freely aim while transforming.

Ultimate: overclock.

8 second duration.

Gives 100 additional armor for duration.

Halves transformation and reversion times.

Gives infinite ammo.

Increases configuration recon movement speed by 30%.

Immune to all cc while in configuration sentry, functions identically to orisa’s fortify.

Sentry doesn’t build heat while firing.

Increases tank damage from 125 to 205.

Emits lights and klaxons for duration.

Ultimate charge increased to 2475 charge.

…200 armor… so now you cant dive a bastion great thatll work. so you increased his poke, increased the poke he can take, give him crits and extra barrier damage so you cant return poke at him and youre going to give him wall hacks to avoid rotations…

The problem with Bastion is that his Configuration: Sentry is too good, while the rest of his kit is mostly ignored. Not to mention he’s the only hero in the game with one cooldown ability.

In all honesty, I wouldn’t mind Reconfigure having a short cooldown (~3 seconds) with Configuration: Sentry having a 15 second duration before Bastion is automatically forced back into Configuration: Recon.

For a secondary ability, I wouldn’t mind them bringing back that Remote Mine he had back in Alpha test as a way of area denial, but maybe dealing light damage but slowing slightly?

Overall, I think Bastion could work as an objective-based Damage hero: someone who prefers the fight come to them rather than actively seeking them out; providing coverfire for his team as they push ahead of him.

So good that he has no pick rate.

Yes, and that’s the problem. Everyone knows Bastion is the lowest picked hero (was it 0.01% last I checked?), but when he is played–mostly in lower ranks–he tends to just sit in one spot for most of the match, or gets blown up and is forced to swap.

I think the reason Bastion is so underwhelming is that he’s too team-reliant, and one ability takes too much precedence compared to the rest of his kit. I wouldn’t mind seeing Recon be favored over Sentry, and I think that would be a direction worth trying: making Bastion more of a lockdown hero, but not so much that he is a bunker. Kind of like a mounted turret: you set it up, unload, pack things up, reposition to do something similar (think, Lord Tachanka from Rainbow Six Siege).

Unfortunately never played that.

But Bastions problem is hes slow, gigantic and literally stands still in sentry. Hes not really hard to kill. Unless ofc everybody does all in their power to stop him from dying but even that can be countered lol.

He needs a complete re-work. He shouldnt be sitting still at all. Ever. Thats just asking to be killed. And what is this big hit box and no mobility. Free kill. Imma say it now, maybe Bastion should be a Tank instead. This isnt a pun cuz of his ultimate. Hes too big to be a dps in any meaningful way - you keep him having to be stationary hes always gonna be bad, you make him be good while moving around, again, hes always gonna be bad cuz of how big he is.

So make him a Tank. Give him a barrier or something tankish. Because his body and head are just waaaay too big to be a DPS. With how slow he is (and im assuming they dont wanna give him some mad mobility).

“But I want to be killing with him!” you say. Well I mean it was a pepega match but I had damage card as Rein earlier. lol. Tanks can do damage aswell, dont worry. Youll still be able to kill people even as Tank!

I doubt the Overwatch team has considered Bastion as a Tank, plus they probably consider his Configuration: Sentry “iconic” to the hero (which it kind of is).

I agree that he shouldn’t be standing still for most of the game, so that’s why I put a limit on Sentry, while also still keeping it as a sort of clockwork mechanism: there will be intervals where Bastion can stay in Sentry, as well as how long he has to wait before doing so again. Most of the other parts of his kit are quite decent, but only real problem with the hero is Sentry and a lack of a second ability…

While I agree something has to be done to prevent Bastion from being a statue for most of the match, I don’t agree that removing any access from sentry mode is the answer. That’s why I suggested this rework. Plus Bastion’s biggest problem in my opinion is that Bastion is single purpose. Currently, there is only one thing Bastion can do reliably. If other characters can do the same thing, to a similar degree, and do other things, why pick Bastion? Also single purpose abilities are hard to balance because they tip into the extremes. This is my biggest reason for liking this rework.

BTW, thanks for everyone for replying to my post. I rarely get 1 reply, let alone 6.

True, the idea was for Configuration: Sentry to act something like this:

Bastion goes into Sentry mode → a 15 second duration bar shows up → Bastion can choose to remain stationed for those 15 seconds, or swap out of it prematurely → ability goes on a 3 second cooldown

At the very least, it would address the first problem of Bastion’s staying in one place for too long: sort of a step one on the road to reworking Bastion.

If Blizzard decided to rework Bastion into the tank role, I would suggest something to incentivize using recon and tank. Of course I would want all of these changes to be added. Probably a mode specific ability. Self repair would be for Recon, some kind of frontal barrier for sentry with a cooldown, and some kind of damage ability in tank. This way, players would be willing to use all three modes, because of that special ability.
