Bastion is being forgotten

I KNOW… I miss it so much… ;-;

You could actually CARRY Games, if you knew what you were doing…

That’s actually one of the first things i learned to do, as Bastion.
The Perfect 180 on a controller.

(I Hadn’t played a Game like OW Before, so it was new to me.)

Even if they took away healing while moving/Through taking damage, And made the Sentry setup time DOUBLE What it was before, I would take ALL Of that if i could just have that old Spread back. (And Headshots.)

Oh hey, i found something… Special?

Here’s the One and ONLY Clip i have, of Bastion after the Ironclad Mega Buff:
(Warning, What you are about to see makes genuinely no Sense when compared to the Last clip.)

I made a new post about addressing all of his problems: Bastion's Problems and Possible Fixes

Reposting this updated list of possible, (mostly) mutually-exclusive buffs:

BUFF RECON (Rifle)

Accuracy

Reduce the speed at which the Recon Rifle’s bloom expands, and/or increase the speed at which it recovers. If Bastion is supposed to have any reliable long-range weapon, and this is supposed to be Bastion’s only reliable long-range weapon, then it needs to actually be reliable. Between its inaccuracy and Bastion’s large hit-box, Bastion still wants to avoid using it, since there’s no duel at any range which he can win in Recon.

And if Bastion isn’t supposed to have a reliable long-range weapon, then he needs one of the other proposed buffs.

BUFF RECON/SENTRY (Mobility and Positioning)

Horizontal

As a cool-down E ability in Recon Mode: Bastion transforms his legs into his tank treads, allowing him faster horizontal movement and the possibility of making farther jumps.

Either way, Bastion gains a little more ability to safely and quickly traverse the map, as well as to reach better firing positions for Sentry Mode, while still being less mobile than the other Defense heroes. This ability might also work in Tank Mode, or else Tank Mode might get a passive buff to speed.
.

Vertical

As a cool-down E ability in Recon Mode: Bastion climbs walls at half the speed of Genji or Hanzo, or fires grappling wires like Widowmaker which fly out just as fast, but which reel him up at half speed or less.

Either way, Bastion gains a little more ability to safely and quickly traverse the map, as well as to reach better firing positions for Sentry Mode, while still being less mobile than the other Defense heroes. This ability might also work in Tank Mode.

BUFF SENTRY (Resistance)

Anti-CC

As a cool-down E ability with short duration: in Sentry Mode, Bastion applies anchors to the ground which prevent him from being moved from that position or knocked out of Sentry form by abilities like Halt, Charge, or Hook. The cooldown for this ability doesn’t start until he leaves Sentry Mode.

This buff could be packaged together with the grapple-wire idea proposed for Vertical Mobility.
.

Extremely Weak Shield

Give Bastion’s Sentry Mode an even more limited version of Zarya’s shield as an E Ability. He cannot fire while using it. It can only recharge in Recon Form. It has a short duration, and only protects from the front.

Can protect against Charges, Hooks, and explosives like Pulse Bombs, Helix Rockets, and Pharah primary shots. He can still heal while using it.

BUFF SENTRY (Burst DPS)

Rockets

As an E Ability that doesn’t go on cooldown until Bastion leaves Sentry Form. Either something quick like Soldier:76’s Helix Rockets or slow like D.Va’s Micro-Rockets, but either way, it gives Bastion back some of the linear, long-range killing power he lost.
.

Railgun

As an E Ability that doesn’t go on cooldown until Bastion leaves Sentry Form. Most similar to Helix Rockets, but trades small AOE explosion for hitscan.

Could possibly have a “kick” powerful enough to knock Bastion back and instantly out of Sentry Mode.

BUFF SENTRY/TANK (Toughness)

Ironclad

Apply Ironclad as soon as transformation to Sentry or Tank Mode begins; increase Ironclad percentage for Tank Mode to 30%.
.

Armor

Remove Ironclad, bring back bonus armor that applies as soon as transformation begins; apply lesser armor bonus to Sentry.

BUFF TANK (Toughness)

No Self-Damage

Remove self-damage from Tank Mode shots. This is a minor buff which can be applied together with any other buff on this list.

Bastion’s Tank Mode accuracy beyond short range is horrible, Bastion can’t gain altitude like Pharah and Junkrat, and Junkrat doesn’t even take self-damage from any of his explosives anymore. No one should need to master Rocket Jumping to make an Ultimate somewhat useful.

BUFF TANK (Accuracy)

Projectile or Reticle Size

Increase the hit-box size of Bastion’s tank projectiles to something much larger than a tiny bullet, such that clipping someone or something with the animated projectile will trigger its explosion. Currently, you can miss anything by a hair as the projectile clips through it and keeps sailing far past your target.

Or at the very least, remove the large hexagon around Bastion’s tank-mode reticle – it’s deceptively large and inaccurate.

BUFF TANK (Unpredictability)

Abort Ultimate like McCree

Allow Bastion to end Tank Mode prematurely by pressing Shift to enter Sentry Mode, just as McCree can prematurely end his own Ultimate when he needs a faster firing rate.
.

Variable Ultimate Duration

Change the duration of Tank Mode so that the Ultimate does not end until Bastion has fired a certain number of shots, so that Bastion may continue to behave like an ambush predator by laying in wait for prey… and allow Bastion to end Tank Mode prematurely by pressing Shift to enter Sentry Mode, just as McCree can end his own Ultimate.

BUFF TANK (Flexibility)

Additional Ultimate Mode: Artillery

Give Bastion’s Ultimate an additional, immobile Mortar Mode as an analogue to Sentry Mode, which fires the explosive shells in an arc that can clear walls and land on roofs, like Junkrat’s primary fire.

MAJOR REWORK

Change Bastion's Modes

Remove Tank Mode from the game entirely, make old Sentry Mode into Bastion’s Ultimate, and replace current Sentry Mode with an immobile Mortar Mode that arcs explosive shots over walls and onto roofs, like Junkrat’s primary fire.
.

Overclock Bastion's Modes

Reduce Tank Mode to a vastly nerfed E Ability reconfiguration with a speed buff. Tank Cannon would be comparable to Pharah’s primary fire, without the advantages afforded by Pharah’s flight.

Bastion’s new Ultimate would instead improve the performance of all of its modes, returning Sentry Mode and Tank Mode to their former glory for a short time and making the Recon Rifle better as well.

REVERT

Blasphemy

Revert Sentry Mode to its old bloom and restore its headshot ability. Reward Bastion players for having good aim.

Man Bastion is super OP on console I wonder what gameplay is like on PC that makes him F tier lol

Yeah Chris Metzen does Bastion’s voice. I don’t remember but there was a clip of someone talking about how they do it.

Imagine if Torbjorn could throw his own turrets, but in an arc instead of straight shots. That would let him toss them up onto roofs even if he couldn’t personally climb.

And as long as he doesn’t upgrade that turret, he could set out another Level 1 turret. But upgrading either one destroys the other.

On symmetra topic, im looking forward to these changes, mini zarya? sounds cool and skillful.

Bastions recon gun should either be fast smg (tracer like) or heavy caliber one (with lower fire rate and higher damage to reward good aim and well placed shots)

If bastion is such a problem to balance with whole pocketing issue, then they should just reduce the incoming healing while in turret, maybe add other changes to the ones we already talked about.

What if ironclad passive would get better over time?

  • the longer you sit in turret form the bigger the damage reduction (this is a noob friendly, camping in one place rewarding addition that im very skeptical about, keep that in mind)
  • this could nerf pirate ship because pocketed bastion after getting pulled off the payload would had to wait before achieving high dmg reduction.
  • meh
  • Other changes would be needed to give bastion power, make bastion less dependent on pockets and personal shielding, nerf teamwork add more solo stuff to make him more viable)
  • just make the payload slippery and bring back the good old crit damage and spread. Reposition fast, deal damage and get out. This could be done if only his ability to deal damage was consistent.
  • dont promote boring strategy that is pirate ship. I want to move with my team and set up when the time is right and when its possible to cover most of the area that i want to protect.

I remember playing just before the rework, i was really happy that they were finally doing some changes to bastion. I was skeptical about lack of headshots and bigger spread, but the new passive? Dying less ? Sounds good!

Then nerfs happened, and i’ve put many hours into reworked bastion to see if hes bad or is it just my biased opinion.

New strategies, things to adapt to… yet he is still not competitive at all (probably never will be, its like bringing a pistol to a nuclear war, its possible to get a kill but imagine how many kills you could get with one nuke) everytime i play as bastion i just know that i could be doing much better on any other hero and thats not cool.

Counters?
High chance of me switching to anyone else because enemy team is running 6 dps and its working out for them.

Lets check what good we have with bastion and our team.

  • Shields? down.
  • Time to kill? low.
  • Accuracy? laughable.
  • Damage over range? better snipe with dva.

Meanwhile old bastion could do well against squishy targets as long as you could aim well, now we have a clown bastion that sets up a circus instead of sentry and everyone else laughs at him on both enemy and his team.

He’s fine…
.

.
Said a nonbastion onetrick that cares none about balance.

You have finally reached the end of the post. Good job!
Thanks for reading.

I dont think we will ever get to see changes made to bastion, look at the forum.

Any hero changes and ppl are going wild. Any bastion mains that went crazy after seeing bastion 2.0?

Bastion was unfortunate to get such a weird nerf just to get him off the unwanted meta. Should’ve been looked into week after nerf.

Sorry, replied to you so I could get to bottom of thread, no need to read this.

Anyways, thank you everybody for your contribution to this thread!

I need about tree fidy…

Jokes aside. I think the core of his problems stem from his size. People on the forums and seemingly even the OW team. Don’t take that into account enough about all the characters. If they did Bastion would have never ended up with 50% spread.

Until Bastion’s Ultimate is him turning into a huge Megazord bastion that stands in one place and goes full Warmachine and just launches an array of missiles, bullets and grenades out his body. I don’t think i’ll ever play him much…

I think they could do so many different cool things with the character.

I have yet to see him transform into a flying VTOL
.
.
.
or BLIMP (to keep the balance and not to make him OP )

I have multiple accounts with around 70ish hours between all of them. Kinda pales when you consider my 150ish on Mercy and Torbjorn.

Bastion is second to least played on PSN and least played on Xbox. I’m pretty sure that statement is false.

Might be for the best …if we take the plans for a sym “rework” as an example …
That’d be like losing turret form.

It depends on what would happen to Bastion.

nah dude its just opinion on how it feels

Nope. You play Bastion for Sentry and Sentry is his part of his character see Rein short, Bastion short, Highlight intro and so on. You cant kill sentry but you can kill the healing for something else. Other parts of him are not replaceble.

In Syms case that would be losing turrets or teleport. They keep both parts so what is the problem?
