Ok, now that I’m awake (mostly) I actually wouldn’t mind this idea.
Bastion’s current state makes him hard to fit into the game without making him unfun or ineffective/OP.
The railgun is cool, and my biggest gripe is that it’s adding more DPS to the hero with the most DPS in the game. This would only raise his DPS and either solve nothing, or limit his buffs in the future, or both. As rework, I like it since it can give him some power against squishies, as well as it being a skillshot mechanic.
The 205 damage scares me though, since being 1-shot through a wall seems worse than scatter. It also makes me think that it’s too much like tank. I can’t see this as an ability, but as a rework I think it can work.
Here’s what I’m thinking:
- Recon:
- smaller hitbox
- lower the firerate
- up the damage
This way it sounds like a heavier gun, rather than the TAT TAT TAT of a squirt-gun. This makes it feel more heavy, which I think suits an omnic war robot.
Sentry: removed, and replaced with Tank.
- near-instant transformation time OR allow him to move while transforming
- 3 shots, with the damage being like what you said in OP, 120 base damage, but can charge shots up to 205.
- 3 shots regenerate like Tracer blinks, on a 5/6 CD
- Slower projectile speed since it has a ohk capability.
New Ult: Railgun.
- 8 seconds, 1 shot/second
- Can shoot through walls and barriers. This opens up more tank designs that aren’t barrier based (Dva DM, Zarya bubbles).
- Can see through walls, HOWEVER the enemy tracking relies upon movement, so the more the enemy moves behind a wall the more accurate it shows their location.
- Hitscan
- no more AoE
- 305 damage per shot
- 100 extra armor
This way he is no longer a barrier buster, but is very lethal against squishes. What separates him from Soldier is that he’s design to be much more slower, but heavier utility. His gun would sound bigger, his cannon would take time to charge unlike helix rockets, and his ult isn’t auto-targeting but shows him the most mobile enemies allowing his team to push off the minimal mobility or else they get spotted.
This way there isn’t any overlap between him and Soldier. Soldier will be more mobile, whereas Bastion would be heavier.
What do ya think? I might make this into a new thread just to see how other people handle it.
