Bastion E ability "railgun"

Ok, now that I’m awake (mostly) I actually wouldn’t mind this idea.

Bastion’s current state makes him hard to fit into the game without making him unfun or ineffective/OP.

The railgun is cool, and my biggest gripe is that it’s adding more DPS to the hero with the most DPS in the game. This would only raise his DPS and either solve nothing, or limit his buffs in the future, or both. As rework, I like it since it can give him some power against squishies, as well as it being a skillshot mechanic.

The 205 damage scares me though, since being 1-shot through a wall seems worse than scatter. It also makes me think that it’s too much like tank. I can’t see this as an ability, but as a rework I think it can work.

Here’s what I’m thinking:

  • Recon:
    • smaller hitbox
    • lower the firerate
    • up the damage

This way it sounds like a heavier gun, rather than the TAT TAT TAT of a squirt-gun. This makes it feel more heavy, which I think suits an omnic war robot.

Sentry: removed, and replaced with Tank.

  • near-instant transformation time OR allow him to move while transforming
  • 3 shots, with the damage being like what you said in OP, 120 base damage, but can charge shots up to 205.
  • 3 shots regenerate like Tracer blinks, on a 5/6 CD
  • Slower projectile speed since it has a ohk capability.

New Ult: Railgun.

  • 8 seconds, 1 shot/second
  • Can shoot through walls and barriers. This opens up more tank designs that aren’t barrier based (Dva DM, Zarya bubbles).
  • Can see through walls, HOWEVER the enemy tracking relies upon movement, so the more the enemy moves behind a wall the more accurate it shows their location.
  • Hitscan
  • no more AoE
  • 305 damage per shot
  • 100 extra armor

This way he is no longer a barrier buster, but is very lethal against squishes. What separates him from Soldier is that he’s design to be much more slower, but heavier utility. His gun would sound bigger, his cannon would take time to charge unlike helix rockets, and his ult isn’t auto-targeting but shows him the most mobile enemies allowing his team to push off the minimal mobility or else they get spotted.

This way there isn’t any overlap between him and Soldier. Soldier will be more mobile, whereas Bastion would be heavier.

What do ya think? I might make this into a new thread just to see how other people handle it.

He will be like widow, but on a cooldown and takes less skill. You could just go snipe a mercy or zen from the other side of the map.The damage is way to much and the cooldown is to short.

Projectiles take more skill than hitscan because it requires prediction and leading your target.

Widow can do that about every 1.5 seconds and it’s hitscan so this argument kind of falls flat.

Her character is a sniper, she is meant for that stuff.Bastion isn’t.

Also,I thought the railgun will be hitscan…as most railguns are in games.

How the heck is a tank cannon a sniper?

I specifically said it would act like his tank gun. It’s only called a railgun because it’s the only projectile weapon I can think of that requires charging up.

Sorry i forgot to quote the post above.

It was meant for him not for OP (original post)

I love this idea to make bastion heavier, i always wanted that they made the recon gun heavier, like come on i bet he carries a .50 cal then why is it so weak.

Big Damage Big Target

that should be bastion

I miss playing HK-206

BIG DAMAGE.

Very big Character…

Basically yea, that should describe Bastion.

But right now, a better description is:

BIG HITBOX.
BIG ULT CHARGE.

Zero actual threat.
-.-
I’m a bit Angry right now, Sorry…

I feel ya.

Bastion should be a threat but also a big walking target, he needs to be able to fight well against heroes with his huge hitbox in recon.

The slower fire rate but higher damage could even work well against widows and such.

They might as well give me a semi automatic gun so i can fire as fast as i can click.
The faster you click the bigger the spread.

Sometimes, i wonder if some people actually get a Machine Pistol, And a Gatling gun Mixed up… By that, i mean Like Sombra’s Machine pistol…

A real Gatling gun is HUGE.

And yet, people on here act like is should literally be the same as a Sombra trying to “Snipe” You from 50 meters. SMH.

Imo, They could even change Bastion’s Health to be 200 armor 100 Base, And that would STILL Be squishy enough to be Ripped through by Most ults almost Instantly.

(Assuming they did away with that Steaming Garbage that is “IronClad”)

Remember 400 Armor 200 Base health D,Va?
And she was still at least Kill-Able.

Hell, i took on D,Va’s As a Solo Mccree back then. And won at least 50% of the time.

They could always do some scripting to make the pockets on bastion less viable.

like self repair is stronger, but incoming heals are worse.

First damage and buffs, then nerfs and balance :alien:

Also, could someone please Explain to me what part of D,Va’s mecha, And Bastion Are Literal Flesh?!

The Armor on a Mecha D,Va at least made some sort of Sense…

What do you think about changes to his passive.

More damage reduction at front and less in the back.
plus his critbox is on the back as well.

I mean one enemy to make bastion turn around and RIP he goes.

I think i know which hero blizzard is going to kill, makes sense

I still to this day, see a LOT Of players, Specifically players who are new to the game… Asking this one Question:

“Hey uh, i feel like a Noob, What is that Blue/Orange part of the health bar?”

And yea, You would NEVER Read such a thing into it, Since if the character you are playing as HAS A lot of actual armor/Shields, you might think: “Hey, if that part of the health bar was armor, wouldn’t it show… more of it?”

And you would be totally right in Doubting your own intuition about such.

It’s Un-intuitive. And i now Currently hate it.

If his Passive allowed him to Actually soak up Damage, As a stationary target, then i would Love it… But it doesn’t.

The Actual Definition of a Literal Bastion:

a projecting part of a fortification built at an angle to the line of a wall, so as to allow defensive fire in several directions.

Meaning… Weak to the back, And TERRIFYING At the front.

does Bastion currently fit that description? No.

Did he? 𝓨𝓮𝓼.

With Bastion’s original… And i mean, Original Design, He would provide HUGE Damage/Protection, in Front of himself, While almost completely leaving the back open to attacks, As it was his True Weak point.

But the Changes they already made, threw that design out the window.

I’m Suggesting we Either do a 180, Back to his Name Origin.
Or, We turn him into something a bit different, But still powerful…
Whatever that is, would simply just have to fill a completely different role, And thus… Rob him of his Namesake in my Eyes.

I wish i could post this on every single Bastion thread there is right now… .-.

Only if bastion had a special mode to transform into, introducing:

  • Blimp mode added
  • bastion is weak and can be one shotted by mercys gun
  • but hey! it flies!

Nice puns
:rofl::ok_hand:

Yea, its tough these days.

I dont even mind playing tanks and support but the teammates lack of willingness to play right makes the game super unfun.

I legit think that if they started “Reverting” some things, this game would reclaim it’s Title.

It was a HUGE DEAL until they started Removing and Replacing Entire abilities, in a Fully Released Game.

I thought that was what the Beta testing was for?
