Bastion, currently, has 0 input on the story of Overwatch, no prior connections, no current connections, nothing. He could be removed and absolutely nothing would change
Which brings me onto my main point: Bastion has no place in this game
He cannot be in a good spot without breaking the game, so he has to be eternally unviable. The only places you see Bastion are in uncoordinated quick play games and waaaaay down the SR ladder. He exists to stomp noobs and uncoordinated teams and Blizz doesnt seem to be willing to give him a rework to give him an identity as a crutch pick for a losing team anytime soon
Bastion has topped every fan poll I’ve ever seen for “who most needs reworked” ever since his first failure of a rework. Everyone has been telling Blizzard how much he needs desperately needs attention and yet last word on the matter was still just “We have no plans for him right now but community is welcome to give ideas”.
I assume he’ll surely get a big rework for OW2, but yikes, it’s just plain sad how long the character has been left to completely rot.
As a Bastion main, no. Bastion has a place in this game. I love bastion, and I know other people who love the hero as well. He may be constantly unviable but we love the unique hero that bastion is with his transformations, and kit. I agree Bastion needs a rework but I adore the hero even as he is. Removing him is a garbage idea and would probably make me stop playing.
afawk in terms of what a living bastion unit means for the ow universe, these things got destroyed or disassembled all over, bastion is probably gonna to be a very important character in the upcomming second omnic crisis showing a good bastion unit changing the perception of that units “symbolize the horrors of the conflict” to something much better
someone hasn’t even been listening to the interactions in game much less the lore it seems, he’s connected to torbjorn and the lindholm family in general
Speaking strictly about lore… Have you forgotten about the last Bastion? What about his connections to Reinhardt and Eichenwilde? And isn’t he currently traveling with Torbjorn?
what? He plays a big role in helping torbjörn open up to omnics, seeing as one designed to kill is incredibly pacifistic, the main problem with him is the fact that he’s trash if the enemy team is coordinated but insane if the enemy team isn’t, plus his sedentary plastyle means he’ll pop up in the most hated meta (bunker). Bastion really needs a rework (along with symetra) but the devs are just ignoring him because he’s really not causing any problems for the vast majority of players.
