Just curious - came out of a QP game with Bastion on both sides, and it got me thinking that he really ought to be reworked to an off-tank, what do you guys think that kit would look like?
Poorly.
He’s focused on putting out damage and has absolutely no utility, so with his current set of abilities he would not work as a tank even if they tried to make him so.
It would be Orisa. Pretty sure that’s how she was invented.
Hell, he even had his own mini-Orisa shield back in beta.
The only way I see him working like that is if they introduced a suppression mechanic, and reduced his damage greatly.
He needs a massive dmg nerf. If he’s a tank.
A big survivability buff.
And probably 10 more changes
he would roll around
shooting highly explosive missles
Alright, since no one else has said it, I guess the responsibility falls to me.
If you want to see Bastion as a tank, just press Q!
Nice - kind of sad to see people didn’t answer the question though : /
Make his ult his primary with a lot less dmg, make an anti-momentum barrier (every bullet that goes throught it stops and falls down matrix style).
His ultimate maybe a transformer move, turn into a “car” and ram into enemy team crushing them into walls (sort of doomfist punch but with AoE)
I always thought of him as a counterpart to TF2’s Heavy, which is the closest thing TF2 has to a tank, but they really don’t have any “tanks” like the ones we have in Overwatch.
I thought about this topic a few times before, too, but I struggle to come up with a unique and fun way to rework Bastion into a tank. Hell, I don’t even know how to rework him but keep him as a DPS hero. He may be annoying as hell, but there are many situations in which Bastion is rendered extremely vulnerable and downright useless.
If Bastion WAS a tank:
I guess bringing back his front shield and limiting his pivot in turret form would be a good start. Perhaps instead of nerfing his damage, he can have a much smaller ammo clip, and a cooldown timer for the turret form. If the turret form lasts about 20 seconds, maybe a 45 second cooldown would be appropriate. Perhaps the damage he deals can generate a deployable shield similar to Sigma’s, except that it can’t travel very far, and has the potential to have a lot more HP, with the downside being that it can’t be regenerated unless you deal damage. Due to the re-inclusion of his frontal turret shield, it might also be a good idea to remove the Ironclad passive ability so that he’s more vulnerable from behind.
EDIT: Also remove his self-healing ability, and give him an extra 75 health in the form of armor. He also should have a slight nerf to his damage output, but it should still remain somewhat high for a tank, so that there’s less pressure for regenerating his shield. His primary fire in recon mode will also add to the shield’s health, however.
He transforms into a tank and shoots rockets, duh.
They could make a character like Bastion that, instead of transforming for more damage, transforms for more tank power.
Like one mode could have a better weapon and maybe a movement ability, while the other mode had the Ironclad passive and some way to block damage. Maybe give the primary mode a hitscan weapon and the tank mode a projectile weapon.
Would be interesting to see, especially because Bastion switching forms is the coolest thing since sliced bread. Ever taken the time to really appreciate his design and all the moving parts?
I think with the dearth of tanks, and the almost pointless existence he has, its time to consider it. That, and it would undo bunker comps immediately as a side benefit.
I’d be interested in a tank Form Bastion in his normal playstyle.
Imagine 3 transformations; Recon, Sentry and Tank. He’d need a new ultimate though.
You still have Torbjörn and Roadhog for Bunkers
He’s literally a Tank already
Less damage and add his beta shield.
Also +100 armor.
Not really, and also Bunker doesn’t need to be done away with
While Bastion functions best in a bunker comp, he isn’t what makes it, Orisa is. You can easily swap Bastion out for a Torbjorn or Junkrat and still have it work just as well.
