Im one of the newer players to Overwatch, one issue ive noticed when playing ranked is that if the game is going good, the strat for the enemy team is to go with double shield, healing pocket on a bastian. I think that probably for higher sr players this is no stress, but us in lower sr dont know how to counter that and end up getting picked one by one. This might not be a problem for everyone, but seeing bastian getting used all the time if things are going badly im guessing lots of people knows how strong he is in low sr. Im not really sure what i wanna get out of this post, maybe some of you more experienced players knows a few tricks or two? ways to guide the team so we atleast got a standing chance? sorry if my english is bad im eu
If thatās the issue, go tanks like: D.Va/Sigma, both have abilites to stop bastion from dealing damage to your team.
Get a ana to nade them when the shields go down.
Hereās how to deal with Bastion.
Step 1: pick Hanzo, Zen, Torb, Genji, Echo, Mercy or Lucio.
Step 2: Stand WAYYYYY far back.
Step 3: Storm Arrow, ZenM2 charge, or left click with any of the others.
Step 4: Bastion is now in a super state of being dead, or moving.
Step 5: Realize Bastion is no longer a major threat.
Seriously, just play from outside of his effective range and Bastion is either feeding, or getting no value. I personally like Hanzo for it since Hanzo turns a Bastion into a Dragon Strike just about instantly. But at low ranks, anything that out ranges a Bastion turns him into food.
EDIT: You can to a degree also do it with baby dva, Sym, Junkrat, Ashe, and Mei. But those arenāt QUITE as effective at it.
Bastion is often a panic pick in lower ranks, as an attempt to steal a win.
The āproblemā with Bastion is heās a force multiplier that people know how to enable, but not disable usually. Bastion forces coordination that most just donāt want to muster. If he has a shield, youāll often need at least 2 to dislodge him; if he has a pocket healer, youāll likely need 3 people working together.
pick junkrat⦠go die on him. ⦠I mean⦠TRY to kill him but just do it in his face and heāll die if you do.
As you are a newer player let me give you my guide to defeating bastion.
Bastion is a very team dependent character for most people, as most people play bastion incorrectly. Bastion is generally only useful for shield break and hard holds in the wrong hands, but in the right hands heās a dangerous and deadly flanker, ambusher, and can hold off angles that enemy players canāt exploit. You will likely not see him used this way, and based on your post youāre seeing him used in the standard bunker configuration.
No matter what role you are playing you have a great many options to dal with a bastion. I will go over the roster of killing bastion for each character and how they can achieve success.
Ana: Sleep Dart, Antinade, and Nanoboost all give Ana a way to deal with a bastion. As you are dealing with double shield bunker style bastions I wouldnāt recommend Ana, but if you are playing support her tools also help defeat bastions team, and a bunker bastion without a bunker is just a bastion waiting to die.
Ashe: Dynamite and poke damage are great against Bastion or his team mates. Bob is a great distraction against bastion as he will take significant damage before the Bastion can put him down.
Baptiste: Immortality field defeats bunker comps readily and easily. Amplification matrix can allow your team to over come enemy shields and kill the bastion.
Bastion: Weirdly bastion is an excellent counter to bastion bunker comps. He can disrupt enemy shields and allow your other DPS to get the kill, and the team who loses their bastion first loses that team fight.
Brigitte: Brig is the worst character you can play against bastion. However, her ultimate does allow some team play. Nonetheless I would avoid her.
D.va: Defense matrix, her ability to flank, and her self destruct are all excellent against bastion and bunker.
Doomfist: Heavy flanking ability, and extremely good damage makes him great against a bastion, especially if he follows up the attack with his ultimate as a stationary bastion isnāt getting way.
Echo: Echo has endless capability to defeat bastion thanks to her ult, but her regular kit is good both against shields and a stationary bastion alike. Her bombs disrupt his position, and her beam destroys shields that have already been weakened. Combos well a lot, and can copy the enemy shield tank to give your team three shields.
Genji: Deflect and team play (nanoboost) are the name of the game. He can also disrupt by flanking.
Hanzo: If you can get the shields down a hanzo can delete bastion before he can move to safety. Dragonstrike will also disrupt the bastions defenses, and is easy to farm.
Junkrat: Great at breaking down shields and can attack from odd angles and behind cover giving him many options against bastion. Riptire is great for flanking and getting a multi-kill against the team.
Lucio: Speed boost for your team, and sound barrier to take the team fight.
McCree: While not the best against bunker, he combos well with any anti-shield and his high noon is devestating if paired with an immortality field. Imagine a sombra EMP or D.va bomb going in before he highnoons with immortality. The bastion will be dead before he knows what happened.
Mei: One of the best DPS to defeat bastion. Her ult has incredible range and her wall allows your team to lift the bastion up away from his defenses or to block off him or his team from the sight line. She can also cryo for her own flanks or to provide cover.
Mercy: Rez is great for helping your team against a bastion pick, damage boosting Hanzo, Junk Rat, or any of your other DPS can readily break the bastions defenses.
Moira: Coalesance goes through shields, as well as her damage orb. Most bastions in the lower tiers will be terrified of this.
Orisa: Using her shield and fortification in conjunction with another anti-bastion tank (D.va, Sigma) allows Orisa to tank long enough for her supports to keep her going. Her ability to displace the enemy can not be undersold. Use it liberally.
Phara: An excellent flanker against bastion bunker comps. Not only can she devestate a team unaware of her, but itās only a few rockets before the bastion is dead, and you can land those before the bastion even knows he is under attack and needs to move.
Reaper: Excellent flank potential, in bunker comps he can team wipe.
Rein: Like Orisa comboing with your team is critical, but I donāt recommnd him due to how slow he is. However, if he gets into the flanking spot he can charge the bastion out of position and kill him.
Roadhog: Great shield break potential, hook can remove the bastion from the safety of his team.
Sigma: The most anti-bastion character in the game. Able to eat attacks, gain shields, and shield against bastion, he is also able to lift the bastion with his ult out of the protection of his team mates.
Soldier: A lot harder to use against bunker, but his flanking potential is immense. If paried with a team that can take advantage of a flank Soldier can readily destroy the bastion before he knows he is there.
Sombra: The most anti-bastion DPS. EMP destroys the bunker comp, and her ability to hack bastion does as well. If youāre feeling daring you can just unlock and score massive headshot damage on the bastion before he knows what is there.
Symetra: Her ult completely negates bastion. Her teleport allows your team to avoid him.
Torbjorn: Proper use of molten core and proper use of turrets allow Torbjorn to be one of the best over all DPS, and it is true when he is against bastion as well. A flank behind the shield and you can drop molten core and completely displace the bastion if not out right kill him.
Tracer: Great at flanking bastion, almost as good as Sombra at it.
Widow: A poor pick against bunker, but her sight lines often allow her to intercept a bastion returning to the fight.
Winston: A good shield, and excellent dive potential, and a healing ult allow Winston to massively disrupt the bastion and his bunker comp.
Wrecking ball: Wrecking ball is fast enough to survive, and gets shields when in the middle of bastions bunker. His slam attack and his ult will displace the team easily.
Zarya: Zarya bubbles live for bad bastions to shoot. She can get immense charge very quickly when supported, and that means she can melt through enemy shields and eventually the bastion itself.
Zenyatta: One discord and one charge shot or combing with the team will destroy the bastion, and transcendence can walk your team into the bastion and destroy him.
I hope this lists help you.
Bastion has falloff, so if there is a long line of sight, play something without falloff. I like Pharah because no one can aim at low ranks, so once the bastion is dead (shooting from the ground usually) you can move in, fly up and kill the rest of the team.
Um, what?
These two are extremely weak against bastion and you should never play them when the enemy team has one.
Iād honestly recommend Sigma or Hog for a bastion. Kinetic can give massive shields and hook is basically a death sentence for the bastion.
I think the biggest problem for baston in Low SR, is that they dont know they can switch form when focused in order move.
But personnally, I go Ana, and focus sleep him.
Wow thank you all for so many good tips! Ill make sure to practise them and see what works the best for me been a frustration for so long lmao but ive refused to use the Bastian strat myself as a savior because of how much i hate it lol
Bastion is ultimately not very effective even in low rank.
He has less than 1% pickrate in bronze, and a winrate that is only slightly better than average.
Sometimes people win with Bastion. But honestly, Bastion is harder to play than he generally gets credit for, and even low ranks can counter him effectively a fair amount of the time.
Lmao this is definetly the first tip im trying hahaha
I started in bronze and climbed to plat and hopefully will reach Diamond next year. Dealing with bastion comps is like a right of passage in lower ranks. Itās sucks, but gets better with every rank you climb until bastion is pretty much a throw pick. Iām only at like 2500 sr and am already at the point where on overtime rounds I honestly hope the enemy team comes out with a bastion comp because itās so easy to defeat. The thing about a bastion bunker is, once you kill the bastion or even break up the bunker EVERYTHING falls apart for them.
The secret Iāve learned is pressure. Bastion comps fall to pressure. Players on your team need to apply pressure anyway they can. Every hero has an ability to mess with bastion. Reaper can teleport behind, fire off some shots and wraith away. Junk rat can lob balls on him. Mei can freeze him. Hanzo can dragon him. Moira can throw an orb on him. Zen can discord him. Hog can hook him. DVA can drop a bomb on him. Sigma can throw him out of turret mode with a rock. Orissa can actually 1v1 him if heās not full health and she has a shield up and then fortifys when her shield goes down. Find out the ways your main heroes can put pressure on bastion and tell your teammates to pressure him as well.
Bastions biggest strength is how much people fear him.
Still in the bottom three heroes down there.
Itās gets absurdly hard to deal with this comp the lower in the ranks you go, especially considering how effortless it is to run. But then again this game is a dump and the devs dont expect new players so they just balance it for the existing players.
Honestly if youāre a new player then I just want to tell you this game is terrible, unless youāre a seasoned player this game isnāt worth picking up.
Be the first one, who will get over it and tell us his story about how he beat bastion strat. Then you will realise no advices will help unless player is willing to get better at the game. And as soon as he will get better, this problem will be solved by itself. Your problem at low elo, lack of aim proceeds into lack of confidence proceeds into scare to flank, proceeds into afk gameplay w/o any initiative, proceeds into low skill rating. How to deal with bastion, highground with Ashe, catch them unaware from behind, drop tnt, do crit in his butt, spam the rest of your shots. Hanzo - flank, full charge arrow, e ability to overwhelm his healing etc. Be the sudden, learn flank routes with health packs, find a mercy pocket. As a tank - hog, flank or break shield, hook - disables turret form. Dva, sig - eat damage while others follow up. Supports - ana - anti nade consumes all healing, sleep.
Depends. What role do you play most often? I can recommend heroes that work well against him and comps built around him
To be fair I have seen videos where that annoying BS still works in top 500 games from time to time. Lol.
Well I play lots of things hahha, lately ive enjoyed echo and mei, ana and sigma
Try flanking with Hog (although you have to make sure you get your flankings right or youāll end up feeding).
Get Tracer/Genji/Hanzo or even Reaper to flank and look for opening. As soon as you do enough damage to Bastion, focus and rain all damage to only him. You should at least coordinate your whole team first to rain damage on him.
As Hog you would have to always flank behind and always hook Bastion first. A simple hook, headshot and melee will finish him off.
Look out for pocketing Mercy attempting to cancel your pick by rezzing. Once Bastion is down, lower SR Mercy will always rez Bast no matter the condition is. If thereās no Mercy in sight, if you canāt get anymore kills, just leave the scene immediately or youāll end up feeding. Keep track of rezzes too.
Also, try going Sombra as this will disrupt the entire enemy team, not only the Bastion. Get high value hacks by hacking tanks and the Bastion.
Additional tip, if you donāt know: Bastion has quite a huge crit box at his back during Turret mode. Itās that glowing blue battery box behind his back
