I’d play this character more. Compared to other 3-round bursts in other games it feels more exaggerated. The really high delay between each bullet in the 3-round burst feels too slow as well.

They should get rid of the recoil, and find a nicer shot cadence.
The problem with a lot of Tank and Support heroes (IMO) is that they just don’t SHOOT WELL, and for an FPS game with an impending sequel that hopes to attract legions of new players, that’s a problem.
Most of the tanks don’t even shoot, and with supports most are projectile, Moira and Brig don’t shoot, Ana is broken and OP af, and Bap (who is supposed to be the HALO GUY/S:76 for support players) just doesn’t feel crisp enough.
You’re right. The recoil is pernickety. It’s so minor that it’s more of a niggling inconvenience/annoyance than something to work with. He would be so much more fun to play if he didn’t have it. Dragging your mouse down 1/8" / 5mm just to compensate is frustratingly fiddly.
Yeah the weapon is the reason why I dont play him more often… its really strange.

I’d say what makes the character kind of annoying to play with is that he’s already doing some trick shots in a way by having to rapidly snap between targets. First going into a predictive healing shot, then snapping back up to hit a target with hitscan. Rapidly making these adjustments that might be at feet level. Then on top of having to manage what I’d call a pretty strong recoil.
There doesn’t need to be no recoil certainly, but what S76 has feels appropriate.
Which is weird, because you’d think that his offense would balance out in OW2, specifically re: less shields to deaden his damage. But perhaps the faster pace of the gameplay makes the travel time of his healing grenades just too slow. And then, ofc, there’s the ‘effortless’ sustain of JQ, Brig and Lucio----at least in OWL.
It’ll be interesting to see the Patch Notes for launch compared to Beta 2!
Yeah, speed was the common option in the beta’s. Sojourn was an incredibly popular pick and she manages to leap and dash about making it hard to get an arc projectile into her. If your tank goes speeding around like Orisa, Rein, JQ, and Doomfist who were all rather common picks it further makes landing those projectiles on heals harder. Teams tend to pick whatever is most common like going dive tends to get more dive.
It doesn’t help that his own crouch which helps to make landing those long distance shots easier to see slows him down making him easier to hit and catch-up with. His crouch is another area where he either needs to lose the slow down crouch provides or move the crouch jump over to space bar and let him tap to jump regular or hold longer to boost.
The final piece I think that makes him hard to use is that you are stuck with 2 really long cooldowns and have to fight your way out of a great deal of dive attempts. If you can’t kill stuff you burn two cooldowns to stay alive, then were still rather easy to hit because you can’t move as fast or slow down during crouch trying to get away. Any prolonged dive against you ends up with you dead. Compared to Moira who can keep surviving dives repeatedly due to shorter cooldowns.
