Baptiste - actually bad at healing?

i played baptiste since he isnt insta-picked in every match. this point came pretty fast tbh  but thats not the topic.

from what i noticed in the current state of the game baptiste isnt worth a true main healer because his nades are to slow and his abilities have to much cooldown do compensate for this.

this game is full of pushes, fast moving allies…: hammond moving fast, changing direction, tracer, genji, hanzo, sometimes symmetra, phara, junkrat (which is generally using his mines for movement, too), ashe, lucio, mercy…

nearly every hero has somekind of movement and some even excessive, making heal-nades a damn hard to land projectile. couldnt we speed it up a bit (like hanzo´s arrows nearly do one-shots in hit-scan-worthy-speed) or increase their aoe so that you reliable can heal those enemies who rely on their movement? his abilities arent that strong finally, even if so many people were frightened of immortality field and his ultimate… both abilities proved to be not very threaty to the game…

or is it just me who lands 1 of 3 nades only on fast and not only steady moving allies?

let’s just say there’s a reason they don’t let new heroes into competitive for a bit

what you want to say by this? i see some options …

i guess we can’t just say that one thing…

it’s because the majority of people won’t be that good at something that just released

so yes, it is “just you who lands 1 of 3”

a good baptiste is very capable of main healing a team extremely well, just because you can’t get it in a week doesn’t mean anything about you or the hero, it just simply means it’s new

Every time I was playing Baptist in qp I was usually doing decent as a solo healer

He’s not designed for healing fast flankers/dive heroes, that’s Mercy’s job.
He shines in static comps where his aoe heal, ult and imo field get a lot of value. (To stop Goats/Deathball from just running you over)

Baptiste is fine to me, of course I’m not only hitting every 3rd shot try accounting for your allies movements, also I have a feeling your trying to hit allies directly with the nades, try aiming for the ground around them instead it helps a lot, using your crouch jump to assist with this by giving the nades a more direct path to your target helps as well

okay, maybe im not playing him in the correct combos or situations

It is not as though Ana are particularly great at landing shots 2-3 years later. I would definitely trust a first hour Ana to hit a Genji than my 30 hour Baptiste. It is hard to consistently land on moving targets because predicting an enemy, that is easy. You are reading them as they duel or see what they are trying to dodge. A teammate. Who the heck knows what they are thinking unless you also have los of the enemy.

That is just for heals. His burst fire is pretty sick. And the grenades are okay when you splash. But that is simply not possible on targets who are moving in the air, of which there is a surprising amount.

There are also bad DPS mains to consider.

The ones who never played healers in their lives?

They believe your Immortality Field is OP and should be spent on them alone so they can get sick YouTube content.

These players will make any Baptiste unable to do their job: as the Overextending DPS main dies, it turns to a 5v6, you have to spend more time healing so it effectively turns to a 4v6 and lastly since you’re down 2 players worth of damage, the enemy just has to wait out a Victory.

Give it time. Your skills will improve and, hopefully, bad ally DPS mains will respect the limits of Baptiste.

Idk bout y’all but I’ve been getting a solid 11k heals on Bap in one round of QP(if our team is coordinated) not to mention at least 5-7 deaths prevented with IF

His grenades need to actually be grenades. There is no splash, wish defeats the point of heal grenades

I do kinda wish that either the speed of his nades or its splash radius could be increased a bit, but that could possibly be too much, because In the right comps, Baptiste can do crazy amounts of healing.

From my experience, he’s not exactly ideal in scenarios that involve very mobile characters. So comps with multiple dps (especially Pharah and the flankers) or tanks like Winston / D.va are ones I struggle with the most.

He’s just going to take some getting used to.

You’re thinking about baptiste in a solo-healer perspective. Almost eveyr healer isn’t meant for solo healing with ease, even Moira, Ana and Mercy with their balance of difficulty and raw-healing power can struggle on their own. I find baptiste an EXCELENT healer, I absolutely loved healing with this guy, and I always had another healer to share the load with me. But even with Moira, Mercy or Lucio on the team, I’ve been getting some gold medals in healing pretty constantly.

It’s certainly good healing. Grouped is damn fine healing. Grouped up and using his ult to heal through big damage is shaboner big healing.

His healing is okay, depending what you aim at . If you can hit at least two allies with every shot your going to get good numbers. If you try to chase down the Phara or Genji however your not. Even if you land your hits healing just one person with a Grenade is usually a waste.

The other big issue is Baptiste can only heal, or do dmg not both. This means your team is generally down thousands of dmg out by picking Baptiste, if you have him and Mercy on your team your putting a lot of pressure on your DPS to frag out.

His ult is tricky as your team can move, the enemy can move and it’s amazing how often Baptiste ult just gets wasted because the window is so small and it has no real depth from the side.

But there is also the clip size issue, Baptiste has what 10 shots before having to reload with his grenade launcher and it’s a decently long reload. This lack of sustained healing can get your team killed in a harsh team fight.

His self heal is lacking as well. It only does 150hp I believe, meaning it won’t even put you to full if below 50hp and the CD is fairly long. The AoE is weird as well as it seems to go rather far when your looking at some one but those to your side/back is only a few meters.

Baptiste can heal a decent amount.

The only thing he lacks is mobility and self sustain (due to his cooldowns) but his immortality field can more then make up for that.

I’ve solo healed with him in a 5 dps comp and in a comp with 2 tanks and 3 dps. He can be good, so long as he doesn’t die too often, gets line of sight and have people clustered together for regen burst.

His nades seem to get blocked by the smallest of objects.

Honestly because of the slower projectile nature of his weapon and the reload time, his healing gets lower the further his team is.

Wait… let me get this straight…

You can heal with Baptiste?
