Bap/Zen Support Duo = Next Meta?

I’m listening to some few people who have tried the PTR and according to them, Bap/Zen may be a new meta Support duo.
It makes sense, think about it:

  • You have the two Supports with the highest capacity to deal dmg in your team, and even help your DPS to destroy barriers/tanks
  • You have the benefit of Zen’s Trans and Bap’s IF, two very powerful defensive abilities
  • You have Bap’s high raw healing output and Zen’s high utility
  • Zen dmg output can be insanely good If he uses Baptiste’s Amp Matrix
  • Trans can do an insane amount of healing at once and win fights, but Amp Matrix can also be used by Baptiste to output Trans level healing
  • Baptiste can peel for Zen and dominate highground

I have tried it in Comp myself and it worked very well. With barriers having less uptime I can see how having 2 Supports with higher dmg output may be beneficial.

I think Ana & Bap probably for higher level aka meta.

Ana/Bap can work really well too, the raw healing output of the duo is insane. But I think Bap/Zen is still better when you need more dmg in your team, or when you want the double benefit of Trans and Immortality Field.

It really depends what the tanks for the new meta are, if it’s something with Orisa i can see Bap/Zen working, but if it’s Rein/Zarya something like Ana/Lucio is probably better.

I can see all supports getting playtime and getting value in gold/plat/diamond, but if we’re talking like T500 and OWL level players, they’re always gonna play Lucio and Ana because of the value of speed and anti-heal.

Defensive abilities only mean so much to them when they can just win their duels.

The best defense is a good offense, correct?

Oh yeah i can definitely see Ana / Lucio over Bap but I’d say toss up, I dont know I’m not high level tbh.

No. The next meta will probably be Orisa/Rein/Baptiste/Lucio. If you don’t have Lucio you lose all the pressure in a teamfight either by getting over-run or because the opponents can simply retreat. Zen is pretty bad right now because his heals are secondary, he can’t peel for himself and his damage doesn’t compensate enough for those 2 things. His Trans is the best defensive ultimate but there isn’t a combo that he really counters with it more than Lucio’s ult

Maps have a huge influence on picks. With shields getting massively nerfed (80% rein, 66% orisa, 60% sigma) I can see Lucio being highly valuable on nearly any team type composition with these tanks.

Brigitte/Lucio I feel is meant to be a hyper offensive deathball trying to rely upon Brigitte’s regular utility to do anything. Probably weaker. Therefore, Baptiste/Moira I see being paired with Lucio for these tanks.

For a Winston/Hammond/Dva team I can see supports such as Mercy/Ana being used instead. Maybe swap Zenyatta over Mercy for the extra damage and ult defense.

Map type, segment, and attack/defense will dictate which heroes to use.

Oof no its a terrible comp. If you notice metas always have low healing.

Dive had Zen and Lucio.
Double snipper had mercy only to damage boost.
Goats had Zen, Lucio and Brig. The 3 lowest healing supports.

Pros don’t care about healing because their so well coordinated they team wipe each other quickly.

So what they do is use supports to speed up team fights. Not to last longer in them.

Rine and Orisa are looking to be a strong combo. So a support will have to be Lucio. Which leaves one space. Bapt seems like a better choice than Zen. More mobility, better survivability, more utily, more healing and more reliable damage. The only downside is a far weaker ult. But thats covered by Lucio.

bap zen is crazy powerful on ptr, I agree except that window doesn’t bring baps heals to trans level. Trans is 300hps in a massive aoe and baps grenades are 60 each and window doubles them.

Imagine just as enemy orisa puts down her new shield zen starts to charge his m2. When its fully charged bap windows and between the zen m2 and bap left click the first instant of window sees her barrier blown up, forcing her fort. Zen discords her, and can kill her in 5 shots through fortify on his own. That is CRAZYYY

Since the both of them make pharmercy’s life super hard, mei and junkrat will be ghostbuffed, and theyre both already strong

The way it is in ptr now this is fairly accurate because you can theoretically have 6 dps hero’s in the field at once now with that changes.

With the way new Rein is looking, there is no way people won’t be playing Lucio. Hammer boy needs that speed.

My issue when Zen is always, “Why am I not Lucio?”
I don’t feel I contribute as much and Ult wise since the Sound Barrier buff a while back theres not much difference between that and trans.

Depends on the tanks being played.

If Reinhardt becomes meta, Lucio is a must pick.
In an Orisa comp Bap / Zen can become really good, same with Bap Mercy.

Healers really depend on the tanks, Mercy can even become meta if snipers / orisa comps are back.
