Bam, now you don’t need to spend a year re-balancing every hero in the game and reworking half of them. Now you can release the game earlier AND make the executives happy.
Why would the game be balanced around open queue when role queue is the main game mode?
So the game doesn’t have to be remade to fit a 1v2v2 narrative.
It would still have to be completely overhauled for open queue. In fact, that would be actually much harder and take a lot longer to rebalance it properly for that.
They’re adding abilities, (winston right click) and reworking heroes entirely (Sombra). The swap to 2v2v2 never required that, heck they can just revert the game to pre 2v2v2 state and work from there.
So nerf the crap out of tanks even further, no thanks.
They’d still have to do that if they went back to OQ. That is unless you want triple shield super goats to be a thing. The problem with OQ is ability stacking in a way that is completely busted. Role queue (especially 5 v 5 role queue) will prevent that stacking. You also have a LOT more combination possibilities in OQ which is much harder to balance for. Not to mention you still need to remove all the CC and stuff anyway so you still have to do all those things that are holding up OW2 currently anyway.
Or they could just balance healing for once and make tanks the tanks they were always supposed to be. No reason a whipshot from Brigitte should heal 450 hp.
I’d rather let RPG fetishist quit
How about NO.
That statement doesn’t even make sense, Tanks are arguably the least FPS friendly heroes in this game in comparison to even supports.
Basically people obsessed with RPG/MOBA definitions of Tanks are free to quit, if they don’t like that Tanks are going to be designed more in line with FPS Heavies, than MOBA damage sponges.
People with that obsession are less than 5% of the playerbase, and won’t be missed.
Survivability comes from two places, defense and healing. Being able to tank hits is something tanks no longer do, worse yet since healing is so high it makes EVERYONE tanky to everything except burst. Healing needs to be nerfed anyway, might as well make tanks tanky again.
If anything, the only thing I’d tolerate for Open Queue would be something like Open Queue but with Role Limits.
I.e. 2 Healers maximum per team, 2 Tanks maximum per team, No limit on DPS
Otherwise you gotta nerf the crap out of tanks so they don’t become omega super GOATs.
I’m just guessing people in this thread are just yelling about how their preffered mode is best and everyone else can leave?
Completely ignoring the fact that balance around OQ would fix upcoming balance issues and prevent the required upcoming reworks from happening.
More like I’m about 600 hours into this whole “Queue times are bad” concept, and it basically bottomlines to
- Not fixing queue times loses players
- Dismantling role queue loses players
- Buffing Tanks to be “OP” loses players
So it’s a question of what loses the fewest players
You don’t need to dismantle role queue, but balancing around 1v2v2 is fundamentally changing the game and there is no reason to do so.
Heck OQ and RQ are already a choice you make when you choose competitive, no reason they can’t just pull a, but actually card, and not balance around 1v2v2.
… Lol. No way. The main reason role queue even became a thing was that we had a year of triple tank/triple support being meta. No DPS were used except for the oddball Sombra in place of Dva.
Tank role is still suffering from repeated nerfs because their main strength was being able to stack them. The role may be less fun lately, but a lot of team comps and metas revolve around them even today.
Support role was never meant to make everything nigh unkillable. Just to back the team up in fights and supply some extra utility depending on the hero.
DPS role hardly had major impact on the meta before role queue aside from a few instances where a DPS hero was overtuned and quickly normalized.
Going back to open queue will open the doors to DPS being invalidated at high level. No thanks.
You could still do RQ, balance doesn’t need to favor RQ in order to play it.
