Balance ideas for the "Forums heroes"

We know the 5 usual suspects are:
Widowmaker
Hanzo
Mccree
Doomfist
Sombra

so, how would we nerf these heroes, to make it more fun for, you know, everyone else

Widowmaker:

  • Widow’s kiss:
    Fully charge headshot damage reduced from 300 damage to 200
  • Grappling hook
    Cooldown increased from 10 seconds to 12 seconds
  • Infra sight:
    Time decreased from 15 seconds to 12 seconds

Developers notes:
As the community thought, Widowmaker is able to output large amounts of damage from an incredible range, and also has the ability to escape from a potential dive, and this made her very oppressive and so we’re reducing her potential to single carry a team from a distance, this should make her more counterable and easier to play around.

Hanzo:

  • Storm bow

Reduced headshot damage from 250 to 200

  • Storm arrow

Reduced damage from 70 to 60

Removed the ability to headshot

Cooldown increased from 10 seconds to 11 seconds

  • Lunge

Max range increased from 7.75 meter to 8 meters

Cooldown increased from 5 seconds to 7 seconds

  • Bug fixes

Fixed a bug where Hanzo’s arrow would snap to players even when their hitbox was out of the arrow’s range.

Developers notes:
As similar to Widowmaker, we felt Hanzo was able to get away with a very aggressive and rather unfair means of engaging the enemy, we decided to tone down his damage potential and escape potential as similar to widow, as he was easily able to escape from any potential engagements, and punish with large damage

Mccree

  • Character

Reverted back to his high noon buff state

  • Combat roll

Roll range increased from 6 meters to 9 meters

Cooldown reduced from 6 seconds to 5 seconds

  • Flashbang

Range decreased from 7 meters to 4 meters

Cooldown increased from 10 seconds to 11 seconds

Developers notes:
While we felt that Mccree was a very good hero in certain situations, our recent buff to his fire rate is not what we were hoping for, as such, we are reverting Mccree back to his high noon buff, and focusing more on his ability to survive, as that was where he was lacking, rather than overall damage.

Doomfist:

  • Rocket punch

now has Falloff damage applied, with max range of 20 meters doing a maximum of 20 damage

Developers notes:
We feel like Doomfist is able to get away with kills that he should not be able to, and one of the main reasons behind that is his rocket punch, so we are tweaking his rocket punch to allow his opponent to survive punches that send them flying, then slightly tapping walls, yet to receive the full damage

Sombra:

  • Hack

Line of sight is tightened and will now fully break hack the moment you step behind a wall

Max range reduced from 15 meters to 10, and walking outside of the range also breaks hack instantly
Casting time increased from 0.65 to 0.75

  • EMP:

Area of effects reduced from 15 meters to 10 meters

Charge require increased from 1250 to 1450

Developers notes:

Sombra has been a controversial hero, to some, she is balanced, and to others, she is overpowered.
we have taken notice of her, and how the community is reacting to her recently, and have decided to tone down her hacking potential, as many find it unfun to fight against a hero that can disable their ability to play so frequently

I think you went overboard with hanzo and widow

hanzo should really only be able to do 200 and not headshot with storm.

Widowmaker should only get the headshot increase at full charge, and even then maybe it should only do 245

(I get the joke! I just got super whoooooshed!)

The Hanzo change confused me for a second because I thought you decreased his headshot damage and also removed his ability to headshot

no one likes 1-shots, even more when it’s from 40 meters away

Yeah I agree I hate one shots but widowmaker only doing 200 AND getting those nerfs is a bit much… maybe just the damage nerf tbh

she can still 1-shot, just not everything in the game now outside of tanks

Honestly rocket punch is Doomfist’s primary mobility tool for engagement. Adding 2 seconds to the CD completely dumpsters him.

He could live with the damage falloff you’ve added however, but only if you compensate him with a better ult in exchange.

So, removing the 2 seconds extra sounds balanced?

I think so. It’s hard to say but it doesn’t sound too bad as long as he gets a better ult.

I suppose I’d have to play it to see how I feel, and of course there’s always the strong possibility that how I feel is totally inconsistent with how the changes play out on ladder.:sweat_smile:

Well, that’s one way to turn Sombra into even more of an EMP bot than she already is.

i said he needs reverting, and his survivability needs buffing, only toning down his Flashbang

if anything, i’m saying Buff Mccree, but in the right areas, not his dps.

Its actually good that none pro’s arent balancing this game. Cause otherwise this game could be EVEN worse by balance wise.

your widow changes are completely unnecessary. if a widow grapples away when you try and dive her chances are she doesn’t have los on your team therefore she has no value. ball exceeds in this because he has the mobility to catch her before she can grapple and get a ton of damage on her with slam and his guns. causing her to have to retreat and get a healthpack. plus the only times i ever see a widow carry is when we have a widow who is getting dumpstered because it makes the game a 5v6. but that can be fixed if the widow swapped instead of trying to win a losing battle. the only change i could consider is reducing her headshot multiplier to 2.3 or 2.25 so she has to scope in longer to make her more vulnerable to getting dove.

the only changes hanzo needs are to his storm arrow. everything else is fine. and the arrows snapping towards peoples heads have to do with 2 main things. Lag, and hitboxes vs player models. you are probably familiar with the favour the shooter mechanic. well if a player is lagging it can make some shots seem unfair. also hitboxes are normally slightly larger than player models and including hanzos projectile hitbox can make for some shots that seem like they shouldnt hit. this is only invigorated by the fact the arrow zips to your head when in reality all it was doing was making sure that it wasn’t just floating out in space where the two hitboxes barely touched and is actually sticking out of your body. so while it may seem unfair in reality its just the game fixing some hitbox ratio issues.

mccree doesn’t need to be more survivable. he needs to be able to put out enough damage as to where he is surviving longer, exactly like zen. buffing his weakness isn’t a good way to balance heroes. all heroes should have a weakness that is able to be manipulated by the enemy but covered by the player if they play with their team and played well enough. im not a fan of his current state but im also not a fan of anything here but a roll cooldown reduction.

i actually like the doom change but i feel like he needs to have his bugs fixed before they start changing him so he isnt incredibly op or up like shown in the past.

as much as i want this to happen this would gut sombra into f tier. you cant just take away from 80% of ones kit without giving something in return. i would suggest adding a damage buff to hacked targets or if you wanna stay away from hack the ability to have 1 second of grace period going invis where the damage she takes wont cancel it. allowing her to reposition in a scrappy fight without worrying about translocating all the way out or being spotted. this increases her uptime while taking power away from her hack making her more powerful in the lower ranks and less in the higher ones.

This is the highest effort troll thread I’ve ever seen.

Okay, here’s how I would personally change them:

Widowmaker

Lower bodyshot damage to ~60 (or lower) but keep increasing the multiplier until the scoped damage is 300 again.

Significantly increase recovery time after a scoped shot.

Increase the time it takes to charge and spread the damage amongst it

During Widow’s ultimate she can mark one enemy. This enemy will take increased damage from all of Widow’s damage sources. If Widow deals the final blow to an enemy then she can select a new target before the ultimate ends. During Widow’s ultimate her recovery rate and fire rate are also increased (to live values) and her shots will ignore armor, instead directly damaging the enemies health.

Hanzo

Projectile gravity increased by ~400%

Damage significantly lowered and shifted unto the below move

Hanzo gets a new passive/ability - When Hanzo manages to hit a target, they will receive a stack. Each stack that Hanzo manages to land on a target without missing will steadily increase his damage and attack speed. When the target dies, Hanzo will get a burst of speed based on how many stacks the enemy had when they died.

Mccree

Stun duration of flash lowered to 0.5 seconds from 1

Mccree can no longer move when throwing flash

Flash range significantly increased (think Ashe’s tnt range)

Each headshot Mccree earns will reduce rolls cooldown by 1-2 seconds

Doomfist

Camera control during Punch is now locked in the direction Doom is facing when cast. Damage of punch is now significantly lowered until past the half way charge point.

Camera control during Slam is now locked at 90 degrees.

Sombra

EMP cast time increased to 0.5 seconds

EMP range decreased by 25%

Hack duration now 5 seconds

Hack cooldown now 15 seconds, reset on a health pack hack or EMP cast.

silence is acceptance
and clearly people aren’t accepting the balance right now
