I was just in a game where i had 4 golds as tank…
The point here is, don’t queue dps in comp unless you have grasped the basics of the game. dps is the hardest class in the game in my humble opinion, so people should learn to play before q:ing comp.
4 golds you say?
What about 5 golds?
Having gold metals as a tank can mean that the dps suck, but it can also mean a lot of other things. It could be that there were two off-tanks on your team (this shifts the responsibilities on the team a lot), maybe you had an overextending main tank, your supports could be bad at healing dps (happens to the best of us, skinny hitboxes are hard), or they could be trading stats for utility.
If you don’t play tank often you might be surprised how much damage they do in a game. The elim averages of most tanks are close to dps in all ranks (damage is a bit further behind, but not always). For the most part tanks don’t have burst potential, but they live longer and that extra time to do damage adds up. As a tank don’t feel to discouraged by seeing those golds.
If I don’t have 4 golds as tank I feel like a failure. That being said I usually do have them because it’s normal. Your dps may or may not be bad. Medals don’t matter. Hell, when I play Moira I get 4 golds and a silver a large amount of games. Still win.
That’s big brain plays
Bro…you’re in silver…almost bronze… and you expect people to know how to play DPS??? People are in that rank because aren’t good at the game.
They aren’t bad, they just play the game differently.
It explains the different ranks.
Yes but generally speaking they’re worse than average, hence their low rank.
We’re on the positive side of the number line today, so they are not as good as some of the higher ranks. I agree.
I mean sure, there are some good dps in silver. But I just think it’s rude to yell at your dps for being bad in one of the lowest sr’s in the game.
When people tell me I’m trash dps in gold I’m like yeah, that’s why I’m in gold. It tends to shut them up. It’s a group burn.
Mei probably had more blocking than you tho
I’ve had 4 golds as tanks when my DPS are popping off and I’m just playing unnaturally aggro because I know they got my back.
Medals don’t matter.
Last game I had I was healer trying to keep everyone alive. We had a junkrat playing into a pharah (and like a usual DPS he wouldn’t switch), during the first round he goes “So what needs to change here… tanks?” No one said anything because we didn’t want to tilt him so we kept playing, but at the end of the first round he calls everyone trash. Our other healer isn’t happy about it. Neither are our tanks. I tell him I think it was a DPS problem and out of everyone that that insulted him, he goes for me, the one person who didn’t call him trash back and tells me “Shut up and heal [censored].” I’m done after that, I stop being nice and tell him that if he wants heals, he needs to learn how to switch or play better and get off junk when they have a pharah. He then goes to blame me for our inevitable loss, but if it hadn’t been for me and the other DPS doing the junks job and hard focusing the pharah, we would have lost.
I dropped down from Plat 2500 to Silver 1900 due to this. You might find this hard to believe but in most of the games I lost I had four golds as a shield tank where I had my shield up most of the time.
In other matches I played Hog and had 67% or higher hook accuracy. In every fight I hooked and killed at least two enemies and killed a third but we still lost the fight cause I am playing tank and the only person getting elims, and I lost another match.
I kept losing 15 - 19 SR per loss. About 35 losses later I had lost over 500+ SR.
In a little more than a third of the lost matches the highest Gold Elims was less than 10 Gold and the highest Gold damage was under 2,000.
Why does it seem like the enemy team always gets the good DPS playing at a skill level much higher than Gold?
PS - I only seem to lose matches playing the tank role. All of these losses where when I was playing tanks. I used to main tank but now I give up trying. I find games where I play DPS or Support to be easy wins. Its only when I que for tank where the matches are near impossible to win. The matchmaker hates me in my Tank role but gives me easy wins in the Damage and Support roles.
you ever have 5 golds as healer thats when you know your dps is bad.
I’ve only got 5 gold’s once, when I first played Lucio in comp when I was doing placements for s20, never again did I get those medals
Oh great, you’re ready for the Olympics.
Bro you are 1.6k you are in no position to call others bad.
What I’m getting from this is: “Why are the dps under performing when I play tank? This doesn’t happen on the other roles”.
If your dps are consistently doing badly when you play tank then there is likely an element of your tank play that puts them at a disadvantage. On any given game your dps could be great or trash, but if you see this happen consistently when you play then it’s unlikely that it’s them.
Taking a closer look at replays might help you diagnose what you are doing that loses games. From what you said it doesn’t appear to be a mechanics thing, so look at other possible issues. Are you doing things that take too many resources from the team? Examples would be running two off-tanks, excessive flanking, long charges, and only moving through chokes after you are down players. If you are playing main tank do you make safe spaces for your team to operate in? If you are play off tank do you make peeling for your team a priority? Are you playing so far back that your supports can’t reach their dps or charge their heals?
Edit for clarification: I don’t think two off tanks is always a bad thing, but it does decrease the resources that go into your dps. Expectations should be adjusted in that case.
