Background Music Isn't Playing

I’ve tried Reddit etc but no good solution.

My Spec is HP Pavilion 14-bf0xx 7200u, 16 GB DDR4, 940MX, SSD, Win10 64 bit latest patch, which is more than capable to play Overwatch. Prior to Oasis Map update, there was NO problem at all. This started since Oasis update.

Menu music ok, character voices ok, gun / explosions ok, but background musics in-match NOT ok

My drivers are all up to date.

Here’s a few examples of existing threads that get ignored (join the link as the forum somehow doesn’t allow me to connect dot and net:

Problem: background music isn’t playing in the game. Neither on the main screen, nor in the actual match.
Music such as one that plays during PotG or overtime works great, but not the main background theme.
The rest of the sound works just fine.

Any help?

Edit: Updated with comment from Blizzard

I have received a reply of Blizzard acknowledging the issue but unable to fix. I put it in the next paragraph.

Greetings !

I am Game Master Taurotaanu and will answer your ticket regarding the music problems you encounter with Overwatch. Thank you for your patience until I was able to answer your ticket.

That really seems to be quite difficult to fix and I really appreciate your effort helping us with all the details you provided. I know you have tried so much already, but don’t give up, we will find a solution together.

You are right, that occured with one of the updates in the past for some laptops. Sadly though, the specific reason could not be found yet by our Development team,
Unfortunate this can be caused by several reasons, so it might be difficult to find the correct one.

According from your diagnostic files, there are some things you might want to try here.

1. If your CPU is overclocked, please remove the overclocking and change back to factory settings. Sadly that is nothing we can check upon in your diagnostic files or provide steps how to do. If you need further assistance for that, please contact the CPU manufacturer.

2. Laptops have build in a sound program called “MSI Nahimic Surround Sound”.
Please check your program list with the Windows programs overview in the Windows Control Panel. If it is installed, please uninstall.

3. In the Overwatch options menu, please change the “Limit Server Send Rate” to off (to be found in the Gameplay options).
Don#t forget to toggle Dolby sound options on/off in Overwatch after that, checking for any changes.

I wish you a pleasant weekend and hopefully much fun with Overwatch again soon.

Kindest Regards,
Game Master Taurotaanu

Anything else I can do?

I recently had an issue with the title music not playing. I ended up changing the “Playback Device” under Sound options. it was set to Default, and I changed it to the Speaker I wanted (which was the default in Windows anyway). Restarted Overwatch and the title music played right away. I had Also twiddled the music volume slider, had been at 100 already, not sure if that made a difference.
