Backfill into defeat

Once upon a time Jeff talked to me on here about this issue…

Really sad they just literally did nothing all this time later.

Not even for new game launch…

This problem along with leaverwatch in general will always exist if they don’t have deserter leaver status for casual modes like almost all other modern games

Just copy Paladins, their deserter penalty has worked fine for years:

What happens when I receive a deserter penalty?

When you desert a match a 5 day (120 hour) clock is started. Each time you desert the clock starts over. The deserter penalty that prevents you from joining match queues has four tiers and they are as follows:

20 minutes 1 hour 12 hours 24 hours

You must not have deserted for 120 hours (5 days) to have your deserter count reset to zero.

I think backfill is one of those issues where literally anything they do is gonna suck.

The current system sucks, making matches end when someone leaves sucks, having teams play and having no backfill whatsoever sucks.

Also what confuses me is even though Blizzard swears you can’t backfill into a game, and then backfill into another, I’ve had it happen multiple times.

They refuse to deal seriously with the leavers problem, so backfill (in defeat for most of the times) will remain indefinitively.

They did nothing about a lot of things.

it is actually hilarious that there is still no solution for leavers in comp for example. after 7 years.

Wdym no solution for leavers. You can take the L in 3 minutes without having a leavers penalty. /s

Honestly I don’t know if I could come up with a solution either. I’m all for bashing Blizzard when they screw up, but there’s very little they can do to stop leavers. Especially with the current community.

If people want to leave, they are going to leave.

if you leave a game early, youre banned from playing any modes for an hour. consecutive leaving results in 2h, 5hr, 10hr, 24hour, 48hr, week long ban.
its that simple. add that.

3x perweek you can claim a disconnect issue on server or IP and remove the temp ban. because those disconnects arent intentional

im sick of having to backfill every other game and insta losing because of it.

Okay, 2 questions.

1.Someone disconnects, are they getting punished?

2.Someone leaves a game and has to wait an hour. They log out and get onto one of their 5 alt accounts. What then?

Better yet just copy Paladins, it works fine for them

I mean it is not like they have even tried to make a leaver match be more fair.

ip bans. or mac address bans. no one can log in from your internet connection.

How would you make a leaver match more fair? The only thing I can think of is either adding damage or health onto the disadvantaged team, but that sounds like it could be even less balanced.

And what about disconnecters?

Also I have a hard time believing Blizzard would ever do IP bans.

kick out someone of the same role from the enemy team? idk LMAO
there needs to be something, i agree. not sure how it could be addressed tho

Theyd be blocked from playing that mode for 10 or 15 min or w/e.

As long as they don’t chronic leave nonstop, they will only incur the lowest penalty. Which is enough time to reconnect and re set up to play again

If they disconnect a lot nonstop, then they shouldn’t be trying to play in the first place

Im more interested if backfilling to a defeat goes in to our statistic?!?

They added priority queue after a backfill of any kind.

I don’t get why backfill to a defeat screen is such an issue for players. You get free xp for a grand total of, what, 5-10 seconds of your time, if that, even. You get priority queue and get another game (this time in the beginning of the match) quickly without having to wait much. Your endorsement level is not affected. Like there’s literally no negative side to this aside from seeing a defeat screen, which, let’s be honest, is of no significance whatsoever.

I don’t have an easy solution to the problem of leavers-deserters.

What I do know is that when my pc rebooted during a training game against bots in LoL I got banned for 30 minutes, and this is the first time that happened to me.
Not QP, not ranked, but training against bots (with humans on my team).

So when we want to manage the problem, we can do it. Question of will. What Blizzard hasn’t had since 2016.

Just a simple thing like giving them faster ult charge (or make the other team gain less) or just a slight hp increase can make a huge difference.

It took me 5 seconds to think out of this and they had years to experiment with things.

It still punishes someone for something they had no control over. I think rewards for staying will always be a better move than punishing leavers.

It’s okay. I do the same when I have Sombra feet on the brain.

But these types of things can easily put the 4 player team in a way higher position. Especially since every player is an individual. Sometimes when someone leaves a team barely notices. Heck, sometimes the person who left was dead weight.

Maybe they have been experimenting and haven’t found a good solution.
