Automatic post removal

Forum mods,

I’d appreciate it, and it would improve the quality of discussion here, if you’d have a person review flagged posts before removing them.

When a post is removed, it says that “a team member reviewed and opted to remove your post”, but I know this is untrue, because I frequently have my posts removed just for having unpopular opinions. These are almost always posts that have broken no rules and are being false flagged just for being unpopular and highly visible near the top of threads.

It disrupts entire threads when a frequently-responded-to comment and all responses that quote it are removed from a thread. My comments are generally positive toward the game and supportive of players taking personal responsibility, so they’re going to continue to be unpopular and false flagged by salty people who want abuse the system to silence anyone who disagrees with them rather than have a discussion unless mod activity changes.

The forums are running short of thoughtful people, so I think y’all should do your best to keep the few you have left around. Otherwise, 9/10 posts are going to be “trash game, trash devs, trash matchmaker gg”, and that’ll become the uncontested public perception of the game.

I do understand that this posts breaks the rules, but there aren’t any other avenues for addressing this, are there?

We may not get along here. But I do think that they should have an open civil discussion between everyone. and that censorship of each others opinions and making punishments against us for small arguments isn’t the right thing either.

I dont agree with everything you post. But I still believe you have very valid points.

Everyone is too quick to report it as “trolling” .

Maybe just leave it up to discussion, and if we are name calling one another, attacking each other’s IQ and all that. then they should take stuff down.

As long as we can all agree that most of this discussion is just our thoughts on the forum about what works for some may not work for others in overwatch.

I’d definitely like to see more transparency when it comes to forum moderation and also needs to be more consistent!

People who harass others should have action taken against them instead of locking entire threads or deleting the entire thread in some cases!

Had it happened to my mobile thread but fortunately the moderators restored the post!

I posted something about venture the other day and it was removed.

It was literally something along the lines of simply “i like venture” and it was removed for being flagged as innapropriate…im like…wut?

do mods ever reply in threads? I lurk a decent amount but have never even seen one

Also, what´s with posts, that you remove without any allert or warning? It´s weird.

Yep and it’s disrespectful to the people who put a lot of time into making well thought out and positive contributions to the forum!

Haven’t had it happen to me in a while though so maybe things are improving hopefully!

ngl I couldn’t imagine OP posting inflammatory or trolling threads

The amount of threads that remain up eternally titled “which mains are the most braindead?”, or similar is astounding

Not direct replies, more like ‘footnotes in the case of thread closure’ I’ve seen it happen in extreme cases. But it’s not an everyday occurance.

I’ve had replies of mine removed because they so happened to be in a ‘reply chain’ that got axed when two unrelated parties started arguing. I assume it is all related to how moderating the platform works (they can’t keep replies when an entire thread gets axed.)

I don’t take it personally and move on from it, but it is annoying when it happens (especially when you get the autoreply saying ‘you’ve been naughty’ when you’ve very obviously not been .)

Happend to me several times and maybe some of those were part of answer to someone, who got removed - some of those were just posts, not answers. You go back and thread is missing like 50% replies - including yours, when you KNOW you didn´t cross any rules. No allert, no nothing.

Automatic post removal

People don’t like automated reporting systems where the person gets to be the judge, jury, and executioner. This is truly baffling to me.

I wonder if players would also be against this in the actual game. Probably not right.

One of my more recent posts (like a month ago, I don’t post much) got removed because I said Venture isn’t attractive and is why they have so few skins. With that kind of censorship it saps the energy to post here, and I’d rather go somewhere else to share my thoughts. Not even reddit is as bad as this place with removing posts for stupid reasons.

Careful what you say in here it’s a highly censored forum, if you have an opinion that hits a nerve you will be threatened with suspension or they will just outright do it, My account is non stop landed in lobbies saturated with cheaters ever since i spoke my mind on the lack of proper balance, my advice just say what devs want to hear thats the only feedback they are open too, Pffft i’ll prob get banned for saying this too

I think it’s just automatic removal once a certain number of people flag the comment, then the same copy/pasted mod note notifying you of removal. I’ve emailed and appealed a removal before on a post I know didn’t violate any rules, and I got the same automated-sounding response, which makes me feel like the appeal process is also completely unreviewed.

Well, that depends on whether you define trolling as “something I disagree with” like many of our fellow forum people do, because I am super guilty of that. I’d be fine with adding dislikes back and being downvoted to hell, but automatic post removal with no review isn’t the way to go.

And yes, it’s funny how many of the replies to my posts DO break rules but get to stay up because this is the forums, where the rules are made up and the content doesn’t matter.

I am talking about removed post, where I got zero notiffication. Overflagged posts always give me notifications.

Oh, gotcha. I don’t think that’s ever happened to me. Maybe it was because you quoted something else that got removed?

I mentioned that some of those posts were not quote, nor reply to someone else´s post. I am not the only one tho. I´ve seen it a few times, when I go back to the thread not long after I posted there and there are missing posts from other people too.

I can confirm that nobody looks at what is being written before deleting it.
