(Attemtping) To Debunk The "Hammond is Realistic" Argument

Now, read this before ANYTHING ELSE. I DO NOT MEAN TO CREATE A WARZONE IN THE COMMENTS AND IT IS MY OPINION ON THE MATTER, IT’S OKAY IF YOU HAVE A DIFFERING ONE.
Now, let’s debunk the argument that “Well [insert hero here] is unrealistic, so why is everyone complaining Hammond is realistic?”
Let’s go through this. Character by character,

Ana - You can still be fit and active at an old age, and being shot in the eye does not mean you will die. Her rifle isn’t unrealistic because it ties into the lore of the game of how it works.
Brigette: Her backstory is fine, kit is believable by lore standards.
Lucio: Believable backstory, music has scientifically shown to boost different things mentally. (Including healing processes) and riding on walls isn’t very unrealistic because of the technology in the OW Universe.
Mercy: Entire character is explained in lore, this she is fine.
Moira: Because of lore-wise scientific advancement and lore of the healing properties, this is fine. FOr scienCe!!!
Zenyatta: Omnic’s can think for themselves, some becoming a Monk isn’t outlandish.
Reaper: Backstory is fine, resurrection is entirely explained in lore.
Soldier: Backstory fine, you can fake a death.
Sombra: Actually at a loss for this one, you got me.
Symmetra: Solid lgiht and manifestation of things through technology.
Torbjorn: Being Swedish.
Tracer: Lore explains her just fine.
Widowmaker: Lore explains her just fine, yeah he “heart stopped beating” but that doesn’t mean humans in OW must behave the same as humans. Also Talon did this, using some cool science-y stuff.
Bastion: Like Zenyatta, not outlandish at all.
Doomfist: Technology advancement.
Genji: Technology advancement and nanomachines for solid holograms for his dragon. His and Hanzo is also explained lore and originates from Japanese folklore.
Hanzo: Not outlandish to use a bow, dragon goes for same as Genji
Junkrat: Irradiated wasteland does some stuff to ya. Also you can very well makeshift a gun.
McCree: The 1800’s in America really happened, and Texas does exist to this day. Also because of technology getting your arm blown off and getting a cybernetic one is normal in this Universe.
Mei: Technology advancement. Being a Chinese scientist is completely fine.
Pharah: Technology advancements and a lot of it.
D.Va: Being a Pro Gamer isn’t that outlandish and sure, why not have Gamers pilot mechs, they might do well.
Orisa: Technology and smarts in children, they can build robots, no reason why Efi couldn’t build this one considering the future and advancements.
Reinhardt: “German engineering.”
Winston: Very smart monkey’s is a sort of thing that happens, you may see it somewhere. Also due to not knowing then the year is, evolution might have giving this Monkey amazing smarts and allowed him to flourish. A stretch, but feasible and fits well into lore.
Zarya: What, women can’t be strong and you can’t make advancements to harness gravity as a weapon/ C’mon!

And then Hammond. No place in lore and is LITERALLY A HAMSTER IN A GIANT METAL BALL. No lore, explanation, plain out silly and extremely unrealistic. At least every character here has a REASON to be in the game. Smart monkey’s is a stretch but a HAMSTER piloting s MECH? Nah, just nah.

It could just be a video game and realism doesn’t matter anyway.

Also, if Winston were revealed today instead of Hammond, I guarentee you everyone would flip out about how he doesn’t fit into the game.

who cares if hammond is “realistic”, hes realistic enough and realism isn’t a good argument honestly… hammond fits in with the games world, thats all i need, the character is adorable and yall need to just… chill, seriously, chill out.

I did just indeed say he is probably the one most out of line. But the game has (terrible) lore that needs to be fit to a standard. You can’t just add a pickle in and say “there look it’s in now.” It has to have reasoning to be there, or else it looks like a jumbled mess of “Why?!”

A 19 years old gets recruited in the army because of gaming skills.

A genetic modified hamster who built his Mecha, in a futuristic lore with robots.

The latter doesn’t fit and the first is realistic.

Yeah, that’s a ‘LUL’ from me.

Again, yes it is lore wise for Overwatch. Mercy and Reaper make sense because of the lore and the realism of the Overwatch Universe. Just because it doesn’t align with our Universe doesn’t mean anything does with others. You can’t just add Thor to a Call of Duty game and expect him to fit because “Call of Duty isn’t realistic.” It has a reason to be there and in the Universe.

He has lore that explains this though. Have you even seen the dev update or read his bio, or at least know who Hammond is?

Whoa man. You need to calm down. Why so aggressive?

Actually I can see a 19 year old being recruited in TODAY’S ARMY based on video games. A lot of training takes place on combat simulators and it’s not a new concept. You managed to choose one of the most realistic portions of the game for your argument.

D.Va was recruited MEKA and SK struggled to find suitable people to pilot them against the lore. They " who possessed the necessary reflexes and instincts to operate the mechs’ advanced weapons systems."

There is reason why D.Va exists. But for Hammond? nope.

genetically engineered incredibly intelligent hamster, who was a test subject like winston, lands in junkertown, builds a mech to either have fun or survive or both. How hard is that to grasp?

Oh my, I am sure people like XQC would fit for the army because of his Winston skills. Totally military mentality right there.

I know I sound cynical but this is exactly what her lore is. A streamer who spent her life on video games and that’s a recruit material.

No, gamers are not like that and most definitely don’t get recruited for gaming skills.

Explain to me how a small creature builds a STEEL MECH HE CAN PILOT. Also, since the Mech can talk, how could he program an A.I to talk if he is a hamster, who does NOT have the cognitive ability to make an A.I and make it learn to talk, let alone build the entire thing?

he is a creature with opposable thumbs and incredibly intelligent, didnt i just say that?

Just google “army training video games” and come back to me when you actually understand the point I was making, kind sir. D.va is realistic in a dystopian future such as Overwatch.

I can get Hammond is a greater deviation from the norm than usual but you can’t claim he has no lore. The moonbase had lore from the second the game launched with Winston. Hammond himself had lore from the second the moonbases map was released.

And still incredibly small and is capable of lifting hundreds of tons worth of steel and circuitry to make such a thing?

i think this dude is missing the point that hammond is ‘genetically engineered’ just like winston was
