Attacking on Kings Row with Reinhardt against another Rienhardt, help

so what do you I do? here’s the scenario

so our comp is looking good and we exit spawn, I hold up my shield and walk to the choke, or maybe even a little bit past it. I have over half of my Shield HP left and the enemy Rein is 5 meters away from me. The enemy team doesn’t seem to be busting my shield with any haste.

Do I just chill kinda right there and try to shield my backline DPS or do I start swinging away? If you say swing, do I swing at the enemy Rein or try for different targets? or do something else entirely? thanks

Just chill. Your #1 priority is protecting your dps with your barrier. The hammer is for when your shield is either broken, or un-necessary

Spam the same voiceline over and over again until the enemy Reinhardt accepts your challenge.

…At least, that’s what I do.

Yes.
You are a tank. Not a dps.
Making sure your team survives is your number one priority.

glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity

Compliment him on his hair, he will immediately recognize you as a brother Reinhardt and the two of you can hang out for the rest of the match while your worthless teams bicker over tiny little control point.

You should pressure the Rein with your hammer if you’re confident your team is safe for the moment. But sheilding always takes priority assuming there is any risk.

what if the other Rein foolishly drops his shield and starts swinging at me? Do i swing back or just walk backwards with my shield up?

Advice depends a little on where the choke battle occurs.
If he’s standing right up at the bottleneck between the bus and statue, cover your team, but pressure the other Rein. Throw firestrikes when you can to get that sweet ult, if you’re confident that you or your team won’t eat fatal damage, try to get him to budge with a swing or two, but be careful not to get yourself charged.

If he’s standing further back (between the statue/building choke, then you want to shield just long enough for your team to circle to the RIGHT of the statue, that’s a safer engagement route.

You can’t chill for too long, your shield will break and you lose valuable time. OW rewards aggression, you’ll have to bully your way in, one way or another.

Eh. You said the enemy wasn’t focusing your shield too hard, so to me that says you should capitalise by being aggressive. You can’t really outpace a swinging Rein when you’re holding shield anyway, and you can’t block his damage, so you may as well get some of your own damage in… Also, calling “shoot Rein” probably wouldn’t go amiss. Get your DPS to help out.

Honestly there are a billion variables that affect weather you should be holding shield or smacking someone. Trust your gut. Generally though, take the opputunites you’re given. Free damage is free damage. If you judge its costing too much (health, positioning), back off.

cool thanks, so I guess the biggest problem is, sometimes it’s me and the other Rein, both with our shields up standing 5 to 10 meters apart. When this happens, it just feels like I’m not doing anything, but like you said, sometimes this is what Rein is suppose to do.

That’s kinda wrong…
You shouldn’t chill… press w be agressive don’t keep your shield up till it’s broken or about to break it’s fine to take some damage your healers will do their job… force the enemy team to back off a bit you’re making more space for your team while limiting the enemy team

The enemy rein has two options either ha backs off slowly if he feels he can’t take the fight immediatly or will fight your agression and goes agressive two…

Swing your hammer at him but be careful if he had shatter, always use flame to build ult charge.

Keep your shield up and when your zarya bubbles you go for a firestrike and a melee and then just hold your shield up until you get another chance to drop it down. If you drop it down randomly your backline will suffer so don’t do that. If you just don’t hold your shield up you’re throwing harder than if you were just to charge into the enemies

If the Reinhardt is pressuring in, that leaves him vulnerable. If he does this more than once, one of your teammates can just ruin his routine with some gunfire. He won’t be able to kill you more than once, if your team has even some brains.

Just remember, if you die on attack Kings Row A, it’s nowhere near as bad as if you take him with you. He’s got a LOOONG walk back. Him pushing in, means he’s either in a huge advantage point where there’s no threat, or he’s just being reckless and will be killed quickly.

Oftentimes it’s good to get him to waste his shatter, on one of those pressure situations. This will leave your team at a bigger advantage the next team fight, if they have reserved ult charge for the 3rd exchange.

Likely if he uses his shatter, he’ll fall back to the point, protecting further in and building more ult charge. This is when you can pressure the point more effectively.

Watch out for high impact damage like Junkrat, and make sure to knock Brigittes out of the way.

If they have a Widow standing on the back mid or back left, or in one of the windows, make sure you keep your barrier up until she’s dead or forced to move. This can be very difficult, as you’re relying entirely on your team to perform actions, and fighting the front line, as well as dealing with the DPS threats on the ground, the boops, and the various support CC abilities always targeting you. But it’s your job. This can be bypassed if you have a D.Va or a Winston, as they head straight for her, forcing her out of position.

If Widow is on the right or on the floor, you just need to play patiently and take your time with the barrier drops. She’ll die quickly if she has no protection, and you don’t need to move in immediately. Just be patient.

Oftentimes once the defensive Reinhardt’s barrier drops, and hes past the choke, that fight is over for him. The man is a bullet magnet, and he’s out of position.

Sometimes Reinhardt tries to protect the left side of the statue (his left, your right if on attack), in order to get picks. If he does this, you’re likely either dealing with Winston or Orisa with him, otherwise anyone trying to hide on the point, is exposed to direct DPS gunfire. So having him over there as solo tank, is a tactical advantage for you on attack. He’s quite exposed to direct damage, barrier piercing damage, charges, and a few other things. Solo Zarya protecting point is very vulnerable unless she’s hiding in the doorway, or center point space, or back behind the point. All 3 of which are a huge disadvantage for Reinhardt on the opposite end of the statue.

you get aggressive and swing. if large portions of damage or important abilities (ana nade, helix, etc.) come through block them. but you can put pressure on the enemy frontline. your team should be fine if you have competent healers

Generally speaking there are two kinds of Reinhardt. The kind that know when to back off, and the kind that die. Team wipes and pressure from Reinhardt, all revolve around knowing when to back off in the end. If you’re not there to get shot, you won’t die. If you’re behind a wall, they can’t shoot you.

You’d be surprised, the amount of open mouthed looking into a rainstorm turkeys I’ve seen drown, by eating gunfire while running through my barrier.

Unless there’s like a widowmaker or hanzo or someone who can kill squishies very quickly from range, just swing at him. If you just chill he can batter the hell out of you and you’re applying literally no pressure.

Only time you shouldn’t swing is if

  1. You’re on low HP
  2. There’s a large threat like a Hanzo
  3. You think their Rein will try ult you
  4. You need to retreat

so there’s kinda some different opinions here. but you have the most reliable profile and you say swing, so i’ll swing and watch my health and watch for hanzos.

do I just swing at the front line tanks? or actually try to push past them when I’m swinging?

You swing at the frontline. If you can bully the enemy rein enough he’ll be forced backwards which gives your team more space and more options. And it gives you more ult charge, which can win a fight.
