At what rank can I call myself good?

I am currently diamond at 3126 sr I still don’t consider myself “good” at the game as I feel like people throw the term around like it’s nothing even though it is the top 15%.

tbh I don’t think rank dictates how good you are. Cause, honestly, sometimes the teammates we get are a gamble.

It’s what your impact is, how well you respond to callouts, and coordinate.

I think you’re good, especially being in diamond.

If you are top 15% u are objectively “good”

Good =/= the best, but still, good.

if u do well with a lot of different heores, has a big rank and do even better with one single character, u can consider yourself at least OK.

Why does it matter.

In a competitive environment nobody cares how “good” you are.

They care how much “better” you are than someone else. This isn’t darksouls where your enemy is the AI or game itself, your main opponent is other people.

You can call yourself good once you can adapt to different situations and hurdles and bring value to the team. Example is by being competent in at least 2-3 classes (Support, DPS and Tank).

People like to act like anything below GM is bad, but I think that’s pretty silly. Statistically, at diamond, you’re better than a good majority of players. Platinum and gold are average-above average, but you wouldn’t think that based on how a lot of people talk about the ranks.

Honestly, I think rank shaming is a serious issue in the competitive ladder, and it’s really sad to see people be so nasty about it. Players hear things like “Lol you’re only gold” enough and get this idea in their head that all that matters is improving their rank, rather than improving as a player. When all you’re focused on is getting to ‘x’ rank and you’re not climbing, there’s a much higher chance that you’ll be aggressive/toxic out of frustration.

The rank that the most players are in is gold, they posted percentages on the competitive forums.
So if you’re higher than gold you can be considered better than average.
It’s always good to still try to rank up though.
From what I remember:
Diamond-10%
Master-3%
GM-1%
Gold-23%

It’s subjective, what is considered good can only be dictated by yourself, for example you may believe your rank at 3.1k SR to be good however to another player hitting gold at 2k SR may be good.

At none.
If you are below diamond, everyone will call you bad and you don’t have a saying here on the forum, and if you above it, you will get called out “carried”

You can call yourself good at the rank which you think is good. The very nature of the word is subjective.

Rank doesn’t matter in terms of being good or not, because I think we all know the ranking system can be a little…problematic.
Being good is having decent game knowledge, game skills (obviously), situational awareness…Stuff like that

Jeff posted a tier distribution. If you are high diamond, you are top 10% of the entire playerbase.

I would say diamond is the start of being “good” because there are alot of bad players in plat which is most average players reside when there is usually not many bad players in Diamond at all even in low diamond

Gold is average, everything above this is better than average.

diamond is good, but you should never call yourself good because diamond just means you understand the main mechanics if the game. Time to be better than your current self.

first rendition of this post sounded harsh because I didnt realise I didnt type the last sentence.

Diamond being top 15% is actually a myth. It’s actually that around 15% of players reach a season high of Diamond or above. In reality Diamond could possibly mean that you are in the top 10% of players.

you’re above average. So i guess that’s enough to call yourself good.

Honestly for me the one reason I care about my rank is because the higher I am the more competitive points I get, I only do competitive for the points.
(If they gave us another weapon skin such as a silver one that you can get in QP or arcade I wouldn’t touch competitive)

I don’t judge my performance based off my rank.

I mean, “good” is purely subjective.

Statistically you’re above average. Subjectively, it depends on the game. If you were dropped in a Masters game, you’d probably struggle, if you were dropped in a Gold game, you’d dominate.

If you’re just looking for an ego boost, remember the motto of every ranked system.

“Anyone below me is a scrub, anyone higher than me clearly has no life and just plays the game 24/7”.
