At what point do you consider someone a one trick pony?

I am aiming for the OTP Mercy status, but I have such a long way to go.

Despite having quite a bit of time on a number of heroes, I’ve been told I’m a Mercy one trick, simply because I have twice as much time on her than my second most played character. Feels bad.

If only I were as lucky. Teach me your ways.

If that is the only hero they can play well. I am pretty basic. Just going with the actual definition instead of my abstract interpretation.

My second most played character is at 70

My most played is at 170-180

Am I one too?

An ideal one would be like the play that character and only that character. However, 500 hours and the next at like 20 hours is sufficient as well to me.

When they are:

A: A Pony.

and

B: They only know a single trick.

A down. Will need to interview to figure out B.

The trick is to… uh… just play the character… a lot. You get into a game, select your character right away.

If you’re trying to one-trick Mercy, it’s doable. One tricking heroes like Sym and Zarya, not as much.

one trick is those that refuse to play anything else but one character. if you flex on occasion you really aren’t a one-trick, you are more of a character main at that point which is almost the same thing.

Naw one trick sym 2.0 was very possible she had one of the strongest niches lol. I actually got really far with her

It did a crazy double post

I consider someone a one-trick if they have a ton of hours on a single hero and only a few minutes or hours on everything else.

I want to be an Ana main now instead of a Mercy main. Been landing sleeps/shots with her.

When you refuse or cannot play any other hero but the one you are playing and have zero hours on everyone else aside from the one that is your one trick.

I’ve also been called a sombra one trick. Not sure how i qualified but I was called one.

Though the difference is people are gonna be toxic toward you for playing sym cause they’re toxic. They’re not gonna hound you for playing Mercy unless you throw.

When they can not aim and only play something like Mercy

Don’t worry my friend has 740+ hours on Mercy, her second most played is DVA with only 147
OH GOD I just noticed she’s about to get her Diamond border, dang it I need to catch up.

Goodbye I must grind some levels

I actually had a very pleasant experience up until I got on the forums but think that is a lot more to do with how I used voice coms. A lot of confidence in my own abilities and positivity towards the team made it so I rarely was the subject of toxicity.

And I have more memories of teammates defending me if anyone was a bad egg. Than a team going after me

I’m glad you’ve had positive experiences! I’ve had good and bad. Didn’t have too many problems until last season, I guess everyone in diamond are becoming grumpy old people that refuse to believe diamond is the end for them.
