All the old maps. Hanamura, Anubis, Volskaya, Lunar, all super fun maps to a section of the player base I inhabit.
- Not being endlessly flanked from a ridiculous amount of directions.
- Widow having to use specific sight lines to get her shots rather than this open death field other maps have.
- Real brawl feeling that leads to actual progress by capping or losing a point instead of slowly nudging back and forth.
- Lots of places for the defenders to set up, and much less trickle from attackers leads to great brawls.
- Design with more refined appearance, less visual clutter.
- They are over really quickly if itās a stomp, so you donāt feel like youāre being dragged through an unwinnable 10 mins.
- They can completely turn around at any moment and the victory go either way right up to the wire.
- Ults feel important, not just these throw away abilities that get lost in the map.
This is just my opinion on it, I know these maps werenāt enjoyed by all. But they were solid, refined design from the original Overwatch team, and theyāve been sorely missed by I hope more than me. Iāve been getting by on control maps for a while now and itās so refreshing to play these old ones again.
I think the main reason I enjoy these so much, I donāt care if I win or lose, the fights are always fun; thatās what OW should be about.

2CP was my favorite maps to play on as Sym. She had so much strategical and tactical depth to her.
However, 2CP got replaced with the worst game mode for Overwatch ever. At least 2CP is fair, they give both sides a chance to stomp each other.
Push doesnāt have that and if two evenly matched teams fight against each other and one gets a lucky 80m push off the bat, the other team is mathematically screwed. There is no chance for them to stomp back like in 2CP, they have to win numerous team fights in a row and avoid ult spam to retake the lead. Worse design than 2CP by a long shot.

Got into volskaya and sym immediately said āflankā in team text chat, we all trooped over to the left like a bunch of oompaloompas and took the teleport, stormed the first point, then charged into the second. Not once in Overwatch 2 have I seen a random lobby all coordinate like that just via two lines of text chat, āflankā, āsure, left doorā, it was so incredibly refreshing and is a testament to the map design.
The newer maps and modes see the team scatter to the wind, disparate solo fights going on all over the place across a wide area. No one cares about playing a team strategy because the maps donāt encourage teaming up and donāt discourage trickling. And even if you do manage to get together a strat, some random flankers pops out of some half mile long flank route to kill your back line who just want to be involved in the actual fun fight, not get drooled on by a Genji.

with how boring and uninspired push is they should just put 2CP back into qp.

I honestly did not realize how often I got killed by flanks in OW2 until I was able to play Assault maps again. Now anytime itās in an arcade slot itās all I play. I get especially happy when Iām put into a Horizon game, itās one of my personal favorite maps to ever exist.

Agreed, I feel like I have flanker PTSD and these maps are my safe space. They were relaxing and fun for everyone playing, exactly what it should be.

I really enjoyed volskya and Anubis 1st point. 2nd point Anubis annoyed me quite a bit ngl and it kind of became a losing map in comp.
Horizon was fun to play widow on⦠Thatās it really. Hanamura was fun in quickplay but I wanted absolutely nothing to do with it in comp. I think Hanamura might have been worse than horizon and definitely worse than Paris. But I really liked playing on it casually regardless lol.
Iām having the opposite experience with them. Torb and Sym every match. Stomp after stomp after stomp. There are only stomps. Not anywhere near as fun as it was in OW1.
I love 2cp. I donāt know why it was ever removed. Love all the maps. 5v5 seems to work better for defense and offense. You really have to work together more. Iāve been playing in Arcade and itās been more fun than Quick Play. I like it waaaayyyyyy better than Push. At least make it a permanent mode in Arcade and not have it āchange dailyā. If youāre not going to add it to Quick Play thatās the least you can do. Please Blizzard.

This entire game would be more fun if Blizzard just enabled all the map type only modes at once and left it like that permanently.
Edit: Apparently I said this above already (a large part of my original post), well, thanks past me. Just ignore present me below:
I think you can really feel the attention to detail the original map designers put in. New maps feel lazy in their layout. Where old maps had clear chokes, flanks, high ground, with counters to each one built in, new maps have these super long open spaces, flanking doors scattered all over meaning itās not so much a flanking door, as a way to casually walk behind the enemy team. New maps feel scattered solo fight arenas, where old maps are brawling chaos. Thatās my take on why this is the most fun map pool, itās a bunch of OG maps.
