I ping like crazy on Support. Enemy here, watch here, this one, etc.
But when I’m playing as Tank or DPS, nothing. Silence.
I’ll still ping here and there
As a Support player, it is your duty to also help ping.

Like everything in Overwatch it is inconsistent. I can ping as support. I can ping the Soldier when he starts taking the flank route. I can ping the flank route, I can repeatedly ping the spot I know he’s going to come out of, I can ping him when he comes out, and I can ping him when he’s slept.
And when I do all that, and nobody gives a damn I stop bothering.
I get out of the habit of pinging sometimes. Sometimes I get back into it.
This is what they call a team diff. If you as a Support is pretty much telling the team, in fact, showing them where the enemy is and they just don’t care. It’s like free legal hacks, from the developers, in the game, yet people don’t utilize it? Probably one of the best things they implemented in the game.
I ping as all roles if there is something important. But yeah, as support I will ping just about anything as I do not trust my teammates to see obvious things.
I agree. I love the ping system and it is super powerful, but it’s powerful in the way that, say, grouping up and combining ults is. Absolutely fight-winning, but nothing can make a team make use of it when they’re too focus-locked on holding W, and when you get games like that you can easily get out of the habit of using things.
You are in wrong game mate. This is not team based game its 5 individuall players vs 5 other individuall players.
ping as tank too. Lets people who are playing with you know who youre focused on. some of us will join you too.
God I wish people used the ping system more often and even paid attention to it.
So Im trying to ping Ana, but it decides to ping the hog half a screen away from my crosshair, is the game trying to help Ana players? Small targets need to have better ping priority. Not big.
I like Zenyatta way more because of the ping system. I just spam the hell out of the discorded target, and even when they’re out of line of sight, as long as the orb is still on then, I can ping them.
Sombra though, always ping as Sombra.
My ADD does not allow me to ignore a single ping. Kind of a problem, but most the time helpful.
When I am in game I forget it exists, which is a shame because it should be really useful
I really like to think of supports as Field Commanders in OW2, telling people to fall back when their health is low, pinging flankers etc. I think that the devs should lean into it more and emphasize it to the playerbase
The new ping system is a massive improvement from OW1 and it’s frustrating how people never use let alone listen to it.
Pinging my teleporter on KoTH and then the only people that use it are the supports
You can change the ping sensitivity. If you put it at 100 it will ping only exactly what you are looking at/what your reticle is pointing at unless they move out of LOS and there’s only one other enemy in view.
I ping to the point where my teammates are screaming at me to stop pinging.
Doesn’t mean they’re always going to listen to those pings.
i ping.
my team entirely ignores it and tunnel visions w/e is in front of them.
they think if they dont tsee it then it doesnt exist.
Mines at 50, it gives priority at pinging tanks (as if they were the hardest enemy to visually spot), meanwhile Ana goes unpinged from the rein sitting next to her, the system is broken and needs help.
I am reminded here of support players who get annoyed at me for calling for healing too much.
When I play support, as far as I’m concerned, the more people call for heals the better. If they call for healing and they’re in a position where I can’t safely heal them, that’s just fine;
Calling for healing doesn’t mean “You must heal me no matter what”. It’s more like, “Hey, I could use a heal if you can safely provide it and if you don’t have a higher priority right now.”
Same goes with a ping. It’s not an order that you must come here and deal with this no matter what; more like a notification that the receiver then should evaluate whether a response is appropriate.
