I hate to be back here again, hand-wringing on the forums hoping to get just a little acknowledgement from the devs, but I’m starting to worry about the idea of another year’s worth of neglect for Sombra after she already got her “turn”.
I don’t think Sombra is bad, she’s absolutely playable in her current state, but in this meta where Brigitte, Reinhardt, and Zenyatta are on practically every team, it is wild how much she struggles. She’s okay, but she’s still below-average enough to struggle in a meta that, on paper, she was made to be the #1 counter to.
I understand that you all have a LOT on your plate right now, what with one extremely volatile new hero, Ana buffs, and the discussion surrounding Hanzo, but it would mean a lot to me if we could hear official word that the team knows Sombra still needs some help, even if it’s not in the immediate future.
Just curious - why do you think this? This meta is all about huge beefy heroes with lots of shields/barriers and lots of armor. Sombra has low overall damage output compared to other DPS and struggles even further from armor.
I think maybe the biggest reason is all the bugs attached to the Line Of Sight nerf, trying to make clutch hacks just isn’t consistent and for a lot of people having what is essentially Ability RNG isn’t worth it.
I also think Hanzo being everywhere with Scan Arrow doesn’t help, either. In an environment where visibility can be placed everywhere at will, Sombra’s few seconds of invisibility seem like a worse version of Tracer’s passive movement speed.
EDIT:
Oh, I misread what you were saying here. While Sombra doesn’t output a ton of damage, Melee characters who are entirely ability-based are ideally Sombra’s best targets. In a meta that is basically just a long standoff between 2 reins and 2 brigittes, a key hack or emp should be just the thing to tip the scales in the direction of her team, especially with two melee characters and most likely a zenyatta around.
Get it? Like they’re blind to her current position? Not because she’s invisible or anything, just because they’re unaware of the badness of where they’ve put her.
I think the fact that a mid-tier character who was bottom tier only weeks before got a nerf rushed to live because Dafran threw a tantrum is going to color my view of Blizzard forever.
There was such a rush to appease reactionaries that they didn’t even test the nerf on ptr and now she’s even more incredibly bugged than she was before. It makes the balance changes feel like Content that is ideally inoffensive to the core player base , instead of an actual attempt to balance the game.
Sombra’s damage is actually in a pretty good spot. I wouldn’t want it touched.
I think what she needs is to get the ult charge gain back from health packs, and maybe EXTREMLY slightly reduce how long it takes to charge, or make hacking people also give some ult.
Alternatively allow her to hack more often, or in an aoe (Yes I know that’s bonkers OP. It’s just a thought).
Her theme is hacking and information, so something could be done with that. Maybe her and allies can now see hacked enemies through walls? maybe your whole team can now see heroes below 30% hp through walls if sombra is within some distance of an ally?
Dunno, something that fits her theme. Sombra’s theme isn’t just as a hacker, it’s as an information broker.
